Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 review: Painfully close to perfection

T3’s review finds the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 impressively built and capable, but its luxury price comes with app and payment compromises.

The Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 gets close to being a no-compromise adventure smartwatch: T3’s review praises its premium construction, bright display, GPS, sports and health tracking, and long battery life. But at a reported UK launch-era price of £799.99, its app limitations, lack of NFC payments, and untested sonar feature matter. It is most compelling for buyers who value rugged materials and diving-focused features over a broad smartwatch app ecosystem.

What is the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2?

Matt Kollat’s review for T3, published 29 October 2025, presents the Watch Ultimate 2 as Huawei’s luxury-styled flagship adventure watch. The review reports a zirconium-based Liquid Metal case, sapphire glass, nano-ceramic components and a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED 2.0 display. Its listed strengths are build quality, screen, health and sports tracking, GPS and battery endurance; its drawbacks include a colour-matched bezel, a less intuitive app drawer, no third-party app support noted by the reviewer, and no NFC payments.

The review’s specifications and performance findings below are T3’s reports, not independently verified manufacturer documentation. They describe the product and the reviewer’s experience at the time of publication, rather than current regional availability or a guarantee of performance.

How much does it cost, and is the price justified?

T3 reported Ocean Blue and Compass Black at £799.99 in the UK, €899 in Europe and AU$1,299 in Australia, with an approximate US$899 equivalent in its October 2025 review. The same review said official US availability was limited at that time. Those are dated reports, not current quotes; check local stock and pricing before buying.

Garmin fēnix® 8 Pro, 51mm, Sapphire, Titanium, Graphite/Black
  • Multisport GPS smartwatch with built-in inReach technology for two-way satellite and LTE connectivity (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)
  • Rugged design with a bright 1.4" AMOLED touchscreen display, titanium bezel, scratch-resistant sapphire lens and other premium materials
  • In an emergency, inReach satellite technology allows you to trigger an interactive SOS message to the Garmin ResponseSM coordination center for 24/7 assistance (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)
  • LTE network connectivity lets you leave your phone behind; use your watch to exchange messages and make voice calls — plus let friends follow along with LiveTrack location sharing (30-second update rate) and location check-ins with the on-device Garmin Messenger app (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply)
  • inReach technology allows you to send messages and get location check-ins over satellite when taking on an off-grid adventure (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)

That price puts the watch in premium territory alongside the Apple Watch Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, as T3 noted. The review does not provide a same-condition comparison proving one of these watches is the better overall buy. Value therefore depends on priorities: the Ultimate 2’s materials and diving-oriented features may appeal to outdoor users, while the reported absence of NFC payments and third-party apps makes it harder to justify for someone seeking a general-purpose connected smartwatch.

Is the build and display worth the size?

T3 reports a case size of 48.5 mm, with the Ocean Blue version at 47.8 mm. The review describes zirconium-based Liquid Metal construction, sapphire crystal, and nano-ceramic bezel and rear housing. These materials give the watch its premium positioning, though a large case is worth considering against your wrist size and comfort preferences.

The reported 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED 2.0 screen has a 466 × 466 resolution and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. Kollat praised the display and premium feel, but found the colour-matched bezel less striking because it reduced visual contrast. That is a matter of taste, but it is a notable design reservation on a watch whose materials and finish are central to its appeal.

How well does it handle health, sport and GPS?

According to T3, the watch runs HarmonyOS and combines Huawei’s TruSense system, a Distributed Super-Sensing Module and a fingertip X-TAP sensor. Its Health Glance feature can bring together as many as 11 indicators, with examples in the review including ECG, heart-rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen, temperature, stress, sleep-apnoea detection and arterial stiffness. These are feature descriptions, not evidence that a reading is medically accurate or a substitute for professional advice.

For location tracking, the review describes dual-band, five-system Sunflower GPS supporting GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS. T3 relays Huawei claims of 30% better route accuracy and 20% better distance and pace accuracy; Kollat says his testing experience broadly matched those claims. The percentages remain Huawei claims reported by the reviewer, not independently established figures here.

T3’s overall assessment is positive on GPS and sports tracking, but its review does not establish a head-to-head advantage over premium Apple, Samsung or Garmin watches. Buyers comparing them should look for testing in comparable activities and conditions, rather than treating a single review’s findings as a universal ranking.

What are its diving features?

T3 reports a 20 ATM rating and diving capability to 150 m, along with sonar communication designed to exchange short messages and SOS signals between two Watch Ultimate 2 watches up to 30 metres apart. The 150 m figure is a reported product capability; it should not be read as a recommendation to dive to that depth without considering the activity, training, conditions and applicable guidance.

The reviewer explicitly did not test sonar communication. Its practical reliability and usefulness underwater are therefore not established by this review. It is an unusual feature, but buyers should treat it as a specification-level attraction rather than a demonstrated safety system.

How long does the battery last?

Kollat reports around two weeks of mixed use, five to six days with heavy use, and a full charge in under 60 minutes. These are one reviewer’s results, not a guaranteed runtime. T3 notes that heavy GPS use and continuous heart-rate and SpO₂ monitoring reduce endurance, so actual results will depend on settings and use.

What are the main compromises?

  • Limited app flexibility: T3 notes no third-party app support and describes the app drawer as less intuitive.
  • No NFC payments: the review lists the lack of contactless payments as a missing everyday convenience.
  • Design may not suit everyone: the colour-matched bezel did not provide the contrast the reviewer wanted.
  • Sonar remains unproven in this review: the reviewer did not test the underwater communication feature.
  • Premium pricing: it costs as much as other flagship watches, so its specialised materials and diving features need to matter to you.

Who should buy the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2?

It is a plausible shortlist choice for someone seeking a premium outdoor watch with robust reported materials, broad activity tracking, strong battery results in one review, and diving features. It is less convincing if payment support, downloadable third-party apps, or a comparatively compact case are priorities.

When comparing it with an Apple Watch Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra or premium Garmin, weigh regional price and availability, fit and materials, diving capability, GPS and sport coverage, health features, battery under comparable settings, payments and app ecosystem. T3’s review offers useful observations about the Huawei, but does not test all three alternatives on equal terms or declare an overall winner. If shopping from a listing, confirm it is the Watch Ultimate 2 rather than the original Watch Ultimate, and verify the seller, current price and local availability.
