The Aquastar Benthos H2 is listed by Aquastar as the Benthos Heritage II: a Swiss automatic dive watch with a 40 mm 904L stainless-steel case, Sellita SW200-1 movement and a published water-resistance rating of 300 m. Its name links it to the original Benthos 500, but its rating is not 500 m.
What is the Aquastar Benthos H2?
“Benthos H2” refers to Aquastar’s Benthos Heritage II product listing. Aquastar presents it as a modern watch in the Benthos family, with a black semi-gloss dial, prominent luminous markers and a unidirectional elapsed-time bezel. The official specifications are manufacturer-published details, not independent test results. Aquastar’s Benthos Heritage II listing is the reference for the model’s current specifications.

How the H2 differs from the original Benthos 500
The Heritage II should not be treated as a 500 m watch simply because it belongs to the Benthos line. Aquastar gives the H2 a 300 m rating, while its history page describes the original Benthos 500 as a 500 m model. Those figures belong to different generations. Aquastar’s Benthos 500 history attributes the original model’s design and history claims to the brand.
| Benthos Heritage II / H2 | Original Benthos 500 | |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | 300 m / 1,000 ft, per current product listing | 500 m, per Aquastar’s history page |
| Case size information | 40 mm diameter; 44 mm lug-to-lug | 42 mm wide; 47 mm lug-to-lug; 16 mm high; 20 mm lug width, as described by Aquastar |
| Movement / timing layout | Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement | 60-minute flyback totalizer, as described by Aquastar |
Aquastar says it released the Benthos 500 in 1970 and describes it as the first non-monobloc-cased dive watch designed to operate at 500 m. The brand also says the model appeared in the approved-equipment section of the 1973 U.S. Navy Air Diving manual, and that freediver Jacques Mayol wore one during his 101 m no-limits record dive in 1976. These historical details are Aquastar’s account rather than independently verified findings here.

What the design details mean for a buyer
Case dimensions and fit
The published 40 mm diameter and 44 mm lug-to-lug length give useful starting points for comparing the H2 with other watches. Aquastar does not state the H2’s thickness in the specifications cited here, so diameter alone cannot describe how it will sit on a wrist.
Bezel, dial and controls
The unidirectional 120-click bezel is specified for elapsed-time use. The luminous applied markers and black dial provide the model’s stated dial configuration. Aquastar places the crown at 2 o’clock and a manually operated helium-release valve at 4 o’clock; the listing identifies the valve but does not establish a need for it in ordinary use.
