Verdict: The Longines Spirit 37 is the most compact and arguably most versatile member of the Spirit family, but “sweet spot” depends on your wrist and how much dial presence you want. Introduced in 2022 as a unisex size, it combines a 37 mm steel case with COSC-certified mechanics, a silicon balance-spring, a 72-hour power reserve, sapphire crystal and 10 bar water resistance. That is an unusually complete specification for a watch of this size.
What is the Longines Spirit 37?
Longines introduced the 37 mm Spirit in 2022 as a unisex addition to the collection. The cited blue-dial reference is L3.410.4.93.6. It is an automatic stainless-steel pilot-style watch with a date display, Swiss Super-LumiNova and a steel bracelet secured by a triple-safety folding clasp with push-piece opening.

The official Spirit collection describes the line’s movements this way: “All their movements are equipped with silicon balance-springs and are chronometer-certified by the COSC.” Longines also says silicon is “lightweight and corrosion-resistant” and “impervious to normal temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields.” Those are manufacturer statements about the technology, not an independent test of an individual watch.

Why 37 mm can be the sweet spot
A 37 mm case sits between traditionally compact field-watch proportions and the larger modern pilot-watch footprint. On a smaller or medium wrist, it can preserve the Spirit’s instrument-watch character without letting the case dominate. The reduced diameter also makes the date, markers and hands occupy a tighter visual field, which many wearers find more balanced for everyday clothing.
There is no universal “correct” men’s-watch size. Wrist circumference, case shape, lug reach, bracelet articulation and personal taste matter more than a gender label. Because Longines does not provide a lug-to-lug measurement in its published specifications, try the watch on—or compare its actual case dimensions with a watch you already wear—rather than choosing by diameter alone.

Choose the 37 mm if you want
- A compact, restrained watch for office and casual wear.
- Proportions that are less imposing on a smaller or medium wrist.
- The Spirit’s technical specification without the visual mass of a larger case.
- A bracelet watch that can also work on a compatible strap.
Choose a larger Spirit if you want
- More dial presence and a larger visual read at a glance.
- A broader stance that better suits a large wrist or an intentionally oversized look.
- To prioritize maximum presence over compact proportions.
The 40 mm and 42 mm Spirit variants may therefore be better choices for some wearers, but Longines’ published materials do not establish a single current specification or price for every larger reference. Compare the exact reference, bracelet or strap configuration and local price before buying.
Movement, certification and real-world expectations
The L888-family movement is self-winding, beats at 25,200 vibrations per hour and is specified with up to 72 hours of power reserve. A full wind can therefore carry through a weekend when the watch is removed, although actual reserve depends on winding state and use.

COSC certification means the movement passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute’s prescribed chronometer testing before casing. It is a meaningful quality-control credential, but it is not a promise that every wearer will see an identical daily rate in every position and temperature. No authoritative published accuracy test for an individual Spirit 37 is available, so a precise seconds-per-day claim would be misleading.
The silicon balance-spring is intended to improve resistance to ordinary magnetic fields and temperature-related effects, according to Longines. It does not make the watch immune to every magnetic source or eliminate the need for service.

Crystal, lume and water resistance
Sapphire crystal is highly scratch-resistant compared with mineral glass, and the Spirit 37 adds several layers of anti-reflective coating on both sides. Longines specifies 10 bar water resistance, suitable for routine swimming and surface-water use when the crown is properly secured; water resistance is not a permanent condition and should be checked periodically as seals age.
Swiss Super-LumiNova provides the low-light treatment. Brightness and duration vary with charging and the luminous material’s condition, so the specification should be read as a component claim rather than a quantified night-visibility test.

Price and value
Longines’ US product page accessed on October 1, 2026 lists the steel-bracelet Spirit 37 at $2,850. That is a live market price and can change. The 2022 launch report from Time and Watches listed €2,050 on strap and €2,310 on bracelet; those are historical launch figures, not a current conversion, discount or worldwide price.
At the current US list price, the value case rests on the combination rather than one headline feature: COSC certification, a silicon balance-spring, up to 72 hours of reserve, sapphire, 10 bar resistance, a steel bracelet and a five-year warranty. Whether that package is worth the outlay depends on local taxes, availability, service access and whether you actually prefer the 37 mm fit.
How to decide between the Spirit 37, 40 and 42
- Measure your reference point. Note the case diameter and how far the lugs extend on a watch that already fits well; diameter alone cannot predict wearability.
- Prioritize presence. Select 37 mm for compact balance, or move up in size if a smaller dial would look lost on your wrist.
- Compare the exact configuration. Bracelet versus strap changes both price and visual weight. Check the reference number and current regional listing.
- Check the ownership terms. Confirm the warranty shown for your market and identify an authorized Longines service route before purchase.
- Inspect the fit in person when possible. A bracelet’s articulation and clasp position can change comfort more than a millimeter of case diameter.

- No independent daily-rate measurement is provided for a particular Spirit 37.
- No verified resale-value or discount data is published.
- Availability and retailer stock vary by country and date.
- Exact lug-to-lug dimensions for the cited reference are not stated in Longines’ official specifications.
