The original pitch centered on personalized help, memory, transcription and first-person media capture. In 2026, however, Looktech’s own pages show revised specifications, a changed software description, subscription tiers and limited availability. Treat the announcement as the product’s origin story, not as a complete statement of what is currently shipping.
What Looktech announced
The May 11, 2025 announcement described ordinary-looking glasses with no lens display. Instead, Memo would answer through open-ear speakers, while a companion app handled captured media and AI services.
- Voice assistant activation with the phrase “Hey Memo”
- A camera for first-person photos and video
- Open-ear speakers and microphones for calls, music and spoken answers
- App features including transcription, meeting summaries, reminders and AI mini-apps
- Advertised functions such as object identification, text translation, calorie counting, plant detection, video editing and turning recordings into to-do lists
The launch article said Memo could connect to GPT-4o, Gemini and Claude. Current product material instead describes Memo as GPT-5-powered, so the 2025 model description should not be treated as the current architecture.
How Memo’s personalization is supposed to work
Looktech says Memo can retain user-provided context such as preferences, routines and previous conversations, then use that information for more tailored replies and suggestions. Its current product page presents this memory as the central differentiator.

The available official material does not establish how accurately Memo remembers information, how often it makes incorrect inferences or whether its personalization outperforms another assistant. Object recognition, translation, reminders and meeting summaries should therefore be treated as advertised functions rather than independently validated performance.
Ways to ask Memo
- Say “Hey Memo.”
- Press the AI button once to speak with Memo.
- Press and hold the AI button to have Memo take a photo and answer a question about what it sees.
Because there is no screen, every answer is audio. The glasses cannot show captions, visible navigation, text notifications or on-lens AI responses.
Camera and physical controls
The newer Looktech help-center specification dated April 8, 2026 gives the most precise current camera figures. Looktech’s retail page uses “4K” stills and “2K” video language, but the pixel dimensions below are less ambiguous.

| Function | Current official detail |
|---|---|
| Camera | 13 megapixels, mounted on the right side of the frame |
| Still images | 2,560 × 3,120 pixels |
| Video | 2,104 × 1,560 pixels at 30 frames per second |
| Recording lengths | 30 seconds, 1 minute or 3 minutes in the newer help-center specification |
| Capture indicator | White light flashes once for a photo and stays on while recording video |
Controls remain important when speaking is impractical:
- Capture button: press once for a photo; press and hold to start or stop video.
- AI button: press once for Memo; press and hold for a visual question using a newly captured photo.
- Media Crown: press once to play or pause; rotate it to change volume; press once during a call to answer and twice to hang up.
Looktech’s older retail information lists 15-, 30- and 60-second recording choices, which conflicts with the newer 30-second, 1-minute and 3-minute specification. Confirm the option shown in the app or at checkout before relying on a particular limit.
Current hardware and compatibility
| Specification | Newer official detail | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Frame weight | 34g | The 2025 announcement said 37g. |
| Battery | 185mAh | Product pages still list 160mAh. |
| Battery claims | Up to 12 hours of continuous music or 14 hours of mixed use | Looktech laboratory claims using pre-production hardware, software and iPhone app. |
| Storage | 32GB flash | Long recordings eventually require transfer to the phone. |
| Connectivity | Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6 | Pairing and AI features depend on the companion software and network services. |
| Phones | iOS 17 or later; Android 10 or later | The launch article said iOS 15+, so the newer requirement should be used for current buying decisions. |
| Audio hardware | Two open-ear speakers and two microphones | Independent loudness, call-quality and microphone testing is not provided. |
The 14-hour mixed-use number is not a guarantee of 14 hours of continuous camera recording or AI conversations. Camera activity, Wi-Fi, calls, transfer frequency and phone connectivity can materially change endurance. The setup guidance also recommends keeping the Looktech app available in the background to improve pairing and media-import reliability (setup instructions).

Lenses, fit and prescription orders
Looktech lists plano, clear, tinted, polarized and photochromic lenses, along with single-vision and progressive prescription options. The stated recommended prescription sphere range is approximately +4.00 to −6.00. Published frame measurements are a 52mm lens width, 22mm bridge and 148.5mm temple length.
The listed frame appears to be one primary size, which may not suit unusually narrow or wide faces. Prescription lenses are customized; the FAQ says customized prescription orders are not eligible for return or exchange and that cancellation may be unavailable once lens processing begins. Verify the current range and policy before submitting prescription data.

As of August 18, 2026, the official buying page displays a $299 price, says new website orders are paused because the first production run is full, and directs visitors to a waitlist while units ship in batches. The FAQ still shows a $249 starting price, and other pages retain older 2025 pre-order or shipping language. The $249 figure may reflect an earlier price or a particular configuration; it should not be assumed to be the current checkout total.

Subscriptions, credits and app services
Looktech’s current help center describes a tiered Memo service rather than a permanently unrestricted free experience:
| Level | Official description |
|---|---|
| Free | Basic use without monthly credits. |
| Lite | Activated after connecting Looktech glasses; includes 500 monthly credits. |
| Pro/Memo Pro | Paid level with 2,500 monthly credits and additional benefits. |
Credits apply to AI activities such as chats, notes, recordings and translations. The reviewed official pages do not state a numeric subscription price; Looktech says prices are displayed in the mobile app stores and may vary by region. See the subscription help page and credits explanation before estimating ownership cost.
The companion app is described as supporting device pairing, photo and video management, AI-chat review, meeting recordings and summaries, transcription, translation, notes, reminders and other mini-apps. Network access and phone software are consequently part of the experience, rather than optional extras for every advertised function.

Privacy and recording etiquette
The white capture light provides a visible signal, but it does not settle consent or legal questions. Recording a meeting, call or private conversation can require permission depending on location and circumstances. Users should tell people when recording is appropriate and avoid treating any access-control feature as proof that captured material cannot be exposed.
In its privacy policy, effective October 8, 2025, Looktech says features may involve collecting user images, audio and files; it says content is not used to train Looktech models without a later clear opt-in consent and that it does not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Those are company policy commitments, not an independent privacy certification.
Who should consider Looktech glasses?
Potentially suitable
- People who want hands-free photos and short videos with open-ear audio.
- Users who prefer ordinary-looking prescription eyewear over a visible headset.
- Buyers interested in a memory-based assistant and willing to use a companion app and connected services.
- Early adopters comfortable checking changing specifications, software tiers and shipping status.
Reasons to look elsewhere
- You need a visual display, captions, visible navigation or on-lens notifications.
- You require fully offline AI or independently verified camera, audio and battery performance.
- You do not want monthly credits or an unclear subscription price.
- You need immediate in-stock fulfillment or broad international availability.
How it compares conceptually
Ray-Ban Meta glasses are the more obvious mainstream camera-and-audio comparison (official site). Solos AirGo targets AI-enabled audio eyewear with interchangeable styles (official site). Brilliant Labs Frame is aimed more at display-oriented or developer-focused wearables (official site). Current prices, stock and feature sets for those products were not verified here, so they should be checked directly before purchase.
Bottom line
Looktech’s announcement introduced an interesting audio-first glasses platform whose distinctive idea is a camera-equipped assistant that remembers user context. The current product is less settled than the 2025 announcement suggests: specifications conflict across official pages, the subscription and credit model affects heavy AI use, and the buying page currently shows a $299 waitlist rather than normal in-stock ordering. Verify the latest checkout terms, phone compatibility, lens policy and app subscription before treating the glasses as a ready substitute for established smart-glasses products.
