It offered notifications, basic activity and sleep tracking, a round watch design and long claimed battery life at a low price. It lacked GPS, apps, payments, cellular service and a mature software ecosystem. In 2026, most buyers should avoid it unless the price is exceptionally low, the official companion app works on their phone and the seller offers a dependable return policy.
What the Newwear Q8 actually is
The Q8 is a low-cost wearable made by Shenzhen Newwear Technology Co., Ltd. The relevant regulatory filing identifies it as model Q8, FCC ID 2AM74-Q8, with a filing available on June 26, 2018: FCC user manual.
Despite its traditional round-watch appearance, the Q8 is closer to a fitness band with notification functions than to an Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch or Wear OS device. It mirrors selected phone alerts and records basic activity data through a companion app; it does not run a general-purpose smartwatch platform.
Listings also mix the Q8 with the Q8 Classic, Q8 Pro and unrelated generic Q8 watches. Treat any listing that advertises different hardware—such as GPS, a large color display or newer Bluetooth—as a separate model until the seller confirms the exact device.

Design and display
The round, metal-looking case gave the Q8 a more conventional watch appearance than many cheap rectangular trackers. Its 0.95–0.96-inch, 96 × 64-pixel display can show the time, simple icons and short notification snippets, but reading long messages or navigating information-heavy screens is impractical.
A 2018 video reviewer said the display remained visible outdoors. That is an individual observation rather than a standardized brightness measurement: video review. Interaction is correspondingly limited compared with a full touchscreen smartwatch.

Features you could use in 2019
- Incoming-call and selected messaging or social-app notifications.
- Step, distance and activity tracking.
- Sleep monitoring and sedentary reminders.
- Heart-rate readings for general trend awareness.
- Alarm functions, watch faces and anti-loss alerts.
- Remote smartphone-camera shutter control.
- Phone support claims for Android and iOS, subject to permissions and app behavior.
There is no evidence that the Q8 offered independent GPS, cellular connectivity, contactless payments, music storage or a third-party app store. Notifications therefore depended on the phone staying connected and allowing the companion app to run.
Battery life: 150 days is not everyday use
The headline “up to 150 days” describes claimed standby time under minimal activity. Normal notifications, screen activations, Bluetooth, sleep tracking and frequent heart-rate readings consume considerably more power. Older coverage gave an approximate 12-day normal-use claim, but that figure was not produced by a controlled independent test: historical coverage.
For a unit sold in 2026, battery age may matter more than the original specification. Ask whether the watch powers on, holds a charge and includes its proprietary cable. A supposedly new unit can still be years old, while a used unit may have substantially degraded capacity.
Pairing and the Hey Band app
Historical setup used the Hey Band companion application. The general process was to charge the watch, install the app, enable Bluetooth, grant notification and health permissions, search for the Q8 inside the app, pair and then choose which alerts to forward. Exact menus vary by phone and app version, so do not assume a current handset will present the same options.

Common pairing problems
- The watch may need to be discovered inside Hey Band rather than through the phone’s ordinary Bluetooth menu.
- A Q8 paired to another phone may need to be removed or reset first.
- Android battery-saving rules can stop the app from running in the background.
- Notification access, Bluetooth or health permissions may be disabled.
- Current Android or iOS releases may not support the old app.
- The app may have disappeared from an official store or be unavailable in a particular country.
Google notes that an Android app can be unavailable because it was removed, is incompatible or is not offered in a user’s country: Google Play help. Do not treat an unknown APK mirror as a safe substitute. If Hey Band cannot be obtained from an official source for the buyer’s phone, that is a strong reason not to purchase the watch.
Health readings: useful only as informal estimates
The Q8 was marketed with heart-rate, blood-pressure and blood-oxygen functions, but the available evidence does not establish medical-grade accuracy. A reviewer specifically warned that the blood-pressure feature had not been verified, and a user report described readings that differed substantially from a clinical monitor: review video and user and product coverage.
- Do not use the Q8 to diagnose or manage blood pressure, hypotension, arrhythmia or any other condition.
- Use a validated upper-arm cuff for blood-pressure decisions.
- Heart-rate values may help reveal broad trends, but movement, fit, skin contact and temperature can affect readings.
- A number displayed by the watch is not automatically a clinically suitable measurement.
IP67 does not make it a swimming watch
IP67 indicates dust protection and temporary immersion under defined test conditions. It does not authorize swimming, diving, hot showers, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, high-pressure water or routine salt- and chlorinated-water exposure. Keep the Q8 dry unless the manufacturer provides more specific guidance. The IP67 claim appears in the product specifications at Priceboon.

At its historical pricing, the Q8 could make sense for someone who wanted a watch-shaped tracker, basic alerts and infrequent charging. A 2019 page positioned it as a sub-€30 option, while a 2018 promotion advertised $35.99 after a claimed $44.99 regular price. Those are historical prices, not current benchmarks: Priceboon and GizmoChina.

Its value stopped short of “best smartwatch” because the low price also meant a low-resolution display, closed software, no GPS or payments, questionable blood-pressure results and dependence on a small vendor’s app.
Should you buy a Newwear Q8 in 2026?
Current availability is itself uncertain. Banggood’s Newwear Q8 search returned no Q8 listing when checked, while its Newwear brand page emphasizes newer models. A third-party page lists a Q8 for $46.99, but that does not establish genuine new inventory, app support, warranty coverage or reliable fulfillment: Kwonvio listing.
Consider it only when every condition is met
- You need only a basic watch, activity counter and notification mirror.
- The price is far below the $46.99 third-party listing and comparable to historical budget pricing.
- The seller confirms the exact Q8 revision, includes a compatible charger and accepts returns.
- Hey Band is available from an official store and works on your exact Android or iPhone version.
- You understand that health values are informational, not medical readings.
- You do not need GPS, payments, rich replies, calls, apps or swim tracking.
Avoid it when support matters
- You need dependable blood-pressure or other health monitoring.
- You want exercise GPS, swimming support, emergency features or cellular service.
- You expect modern notifications, voice assistance, music or third-party apps.
- You require current firmware updates, privacy assurances or a long warranty.
- The seller cannot prove app availability, battery condition or replacement-charger supply.
Better-supported choices by use case
Choose a current product family rather than an unsupported Q8 when reliability is important. Exact models and prices change, so check the manufacturer’s current listings.
- Apple Watch for iPhone owners who prioritize Apple integration, safety features, apps and notifications.
- Samsung Galaxy Watch for Android users seeking a full smartwatch experience.
- Fitbit trackers for straightforward activity, sleep and health-trend tracking.
- Garmin wearables for GPS training and deeper running or cycling tools.
- Google Pixel Watch for readers who want Google and Wear OS integration.
Final verdict
In 2019: the Newwear Q8 was a decent cheap tracker with a watch-like design, notifications and unusually ambitious battery claims, but not the best smartwatch overall. In 2026: app availability, battery aging, proprietary charging and uncertain support outweigh its original specification sheet. Buy only with verified official-app compatibility, a very low price and a strong return policy; otherwise choose a currently supported tracker or smartwatch.
