OMEGA’s 2026 Speedmaster Moonwatch “Reverse Panda” is a catalog model offered in two 42 mm versions: stainless steel (ref. 310.30.42.50.01.004) and 18K Moonshine Gold (ref. 310.60.42.50.01.002). Both invert the familiar Moonwatch layout with a glossy black main dial and white recessed chronograph registers, while retaining the hand-wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861.
What changed on the Reverse Panda?
The defining change is visual rather than mechanical. The main dial is glossy black, while the recessed small-seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters are white. OMEGA builds the step dial from two lacquered plates: a polished black upper plate and a white base for the sub-dials. That construction creates sharper contrast than the conventional Moonwatch and also adds a small amount of height.
The watches retain the familiar asymmetric 42 mm Speedmaster Professional case, pump-style chronograph pushers and twisted lugs. A black ceramic tachymeter bezel carries a white enamel scale, replacing the aluminum bezel used on regular Moonwatch variants.

Steel or Moonshine Gold?
Stainless steel: the practical entry point
Fratello reports a 144 g total weight for the steel watch. At $10,400, it is the attainable version for buyers who want the reverse-panda dial, ceramic bezel and display-back 3861 without paying for precious metal. Its lighter mass should also make it easier to wear for long periods, although wrist comfort depends on bracelet sizing and individual fit.
Moonshine Gold: substantially heavier and more conspicuous
The Moonshine Gold model weighs 215 g, including 185 g of solid gold, according to Fratello. Its $49,300 US retail price reflects the precious-metal case, bracelet and components rather than a different movement or complication. The extra mass and warm gold color give it more wrist presence; the underlying dimensions and functions remain the same as the steel reference.

How it differs from the regular Moonwatch
The traditional Moonwatch uses the familiar matte or stepped black dial with contrasting white hands and markers, while the Reverse Panda places the white elements inside the three chronograph registers. The new watches also use black ceramic bezels with white enamel markings; regular catalog Moonwatch variants commonly use aluminum bezels.
Hodinkee measures the Reverse Panda at 13.54 mm thick, compared with 13.18 mm for regular variants. The 0.36 mm difference is attributed to the two-plate dial construction. Both remain 42 mm wide, so the change is more noticeable in side profile than in footprint.
Catalog placement is another distinction from special commemorative releases. Hodinkee reports that both Reverse Panda references were available in OMEGA’s standard catalog and were not limited editions at launch.
Crystal clarification
Both references use sapphire crystals on the front and exhibition sapphire backs. Fratello later corrected a statement in its January 13, 2026 video and article that the crystal matched the First Omega in Space. That comparison was incorrect; the video had been filmed before updated information from OMEGA arrived.

Who should buy which version?
- Choose steel if you want the reverse-panda appearance at the lower price, prefer a lighter watch, or expect to wear it frequently.
- Choose Moonshine Gold if precious-metal content, color and heft are central to the purchase and the nearly $39,000 premium over steel is acceptable.
- Choose the regular Moonwatch instead if you prefer the historic dial layout, slightly thinner case or aluminum-bezel appearance.
Neither Reverse Panda offers a mechanical advantage over the other: both use the same 3861 movement, 50-hour reserve, sapphire display back and METAS Master Chronometer certification. The decision is therefore primarily about dial design, material, weight, thickness and budget.
Availability and edition status
At launch in 2026, OMEGA positioned both references as standard-production catalog watches rather than limited editions. Availability can still vary by country and authorized retailer, so buyers should confirm current stock, warranty coverage and the exact reference before paying a deposit or purchasing online.

Verdict
The Reverse Panda is a genuine visual reinterpretation of the Moonwatch, not a new complication: the glossy black two-layer dial and white recessed counters do the work. Steel ref. 310.30.42.50.01.004 is the rational everyday choice at $10,400, while Moonshine Gold ref. 310.60.42.50.01.002 turns the same design into a heavy precious-metal statement at $49,300. Both are catalog, non-limited 2026 models with the proven 3861 platform.
