Omega limited each individual variant to 2,020 watches and the complete set to just 55. Its appeal is not simply owning five colorways: the boxed set adds five straps and deployant clasps, a changing tool, and a presentation case, while the designs draw on several different Speedmaster lineages.
What the Tokyo 2020 set includes
Omega introduced the five watches in 2018. The watches were also sold individually; the complete set combines one of each variant and adds accessories intended to make it a more complete collection. Fratello reported that each watch has its set number engraved on the caseback alongside the Tokyo 2020 design.

- Five additional alligator straps with folding or deployant clasps. Fratello describes the straps as color-matched to the bezels, though they can be mixed across the watches.
- A strap-changing tool and a large, two-compartment presentation box.
Christie’s catalogue for a documented set numbered 7/55 also lists authenticity and warranty materials, pictogram cards, presentation packaging, and outer packaging. That catalogue is evidence of what accompanied that particular auction lot, not a guarantee that every surviving set remains equally complete. Christie’s also noted restrictions affecting the sale or shipment of that lot’s crocodile straps outside Hong Kong; those terms were specific to that lot and its materials, not a universal rule for every set or jurisdiction.
Shared case and movement, with one variant’s specifications confirmed by Omega
Fratello describes all five watches as sharing a 42 mm Moonwatch case and hand-wound caliber 1861. Omega’s official Hong Kong product page gives more detailed specifications for the green-bezel reference 522.20.42.30.06.001. Those figures apply to that reference and should not be assumed to establish every detail of every variant.

OMEGA’s official description says the model was made “In celebration of the 2-year countdown to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020,” and identifies the reference as limited to 2,020 pieces. The same product page now marks the green reference as no longer available: OMEGA’s product page for reference 522.20.42.30.06.001.
How the five designs differ
The set translates the five Olympic-ring colors into different dial, bezel, and case combinations. The design references are visual lineages, not claims that these watches share the mechanics of the earlier editions they evoke.

The collection therefore has more variety than five simple dial-color swaps. Three designs look back to earlier Speedmaster Professional limited editions, while the green and red models take cues from the 2016 Moonphase family. Whether the full set is more compelling than one favorite depends on how much the buyer values the contrast among those lineages, along with the set’s rarity and completeness.
Rarity, availability, and the original price
Fratello reports a production limit of 2,020 watches for each individual variant and 55 complete five-watch sets. Christie’s catalogue documents one set numbered 7/55. These are production figures, not evidence of current market value or investment performance.

Fratello reported the complete set sold out by 2021 and noted that it could be found pre-owned. Omega’s product page for the cited green variant says it is no longer available. Neither statement establishes current inventory or a current resale price for the full set.
Fratello reported an original set price of €33,000 excluding VAT at the time of release in 2018. That is historical launch pricing, not a present-day valuation. The 2021 Fratello account also notes that international purchases can involve different prices by location and customs or duties. No current average, completed-sale analysis, or verified live price is established by the cited sources.

What to check when considering a pre-owned set
Because the complete set is limited and its value as a collection depends on having all five watches and their accompanying pieces, assess completeness and provenance rather than judging it by a single watch’s appearance.

- Match the set numbering. Check the engraved set number on the casebacks across all five watches and compare it with any set documentation.
- Confirm the paperwork and packaging. Ask which authenticity, warranty, pictogram, presentation-box, and outer-packaging items are included; compare the contents with the seller’s inventory rather than assuming every documented auction item is present.
- Inspect bracelets and accessories. Verify the five bracelets, additional straps, clasps, and strap-changing tool, and ask about the condition of each. For any crocodile strap, check the rules that apply to the specific route and jurisdiction of a sale or shipment.
- Have condition assessed. Use an appropriate watch specialist to inspect the watches and review service history before committing. The cited sources do not establish a particular defect pattern for this set.
- Calculate the full landed cost. For an international purchase, confirm applicable duties, taxes, shipping, and any material-specific restrictions before comparing offers.
