The Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa PAM01653 and PAM01654 share a 44 mm case format, three-day power reserve, 10 bar water resistance and 24/22 mm strap dimensions. Their main differences are more consequential: PAM01653 pairs brushed steel with a hand-wound time display, while PAM01654 uses brushed titanium and an automatic flyback chronograph, and is limited to 150 pieces according to Panerai.

Which model fits which preference?
Choose PAM01653 for a simpler, hand-wound layout
PAM01653 is the more straightforward of the pair: a time display with small seconds, powered by the hand-wound P.6000. Its brushed-steel case and grey dial keep the emphasis on the core Luminor format rather than an added timing complication. Winding is part of owning a manual watch; it is not an automatic model that can be kept running on a watch winder.
Choose PAM01654 for a flyback chronograph
PAM01654 adds an automatic movement and flyback chronograph functions, with a dedicated hours counter and double central chronograph-seconds hands. Its titanium case has a polished titanium bezel, and its see-through back exposes the movement. Panerai lists it as a 150-piece limited edition.

The available specifications do not establish which watch wears more comfortably, keeps better time in daily use or offers better value. Those judgments need evidence beyond the listed materials and movement details.
What the Luna Rossa connection means
Panerai connects the collection with its sponsorship of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team and the 37th America’s Cup on its Luna Rossa collection page. The PAM01654 product page frames that watch as accompanying the team’s quest for the 38th America’s Cup in Naples and links its materials and chronograph to sailing performance. These are Panerai’s descriptions of the collaboration, not independent findings about either watch’s performance in sailing conditions.

What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
Both watches list 10 bar water resistance, approximately 100 metres, but that figure alone does not establish suitability for every water activity. Follow Panerai’s guidance for use and maintenance rather than treating the rating as a blanket guarantee. Likewise, the shared 44 mm diameter and three-day reserve are useful points of comparison, not a substitute for trying the watches on or evaluating how each movement suits your routine.
Panerai’s product pages list matching 24/22 strap dimensions and an additional black rubber strap for each reference. If buying a replacement strap or browsing a marketplace listing, confirm compatibility with the exact reference, including buckle fit, and check the seller and authorization status. Price and availability can vary by market; the cited specifications do not establish current local retail pricing or stock.
