Pebble Index 01 is a press-to-record voice-note ring, not a health tracker or a ring with an AI model inside it. It captures short audio, then sends it to a paired iPhone or Android phone, where the Pebble app transcribes it and uses an on-device language model to turn it into notes, reminders, timers, or other configured actions. Its silver-oxide battery cannot be recharged: Pebble estimates years of use, after which the ring must be replaced and recycled.
What does the Pebble Index 01 ring do?
Index 01 is designed to capture a thought quickly when taking out a phone would be inconvenient. Press and hold its physical button to record; the ring is not intended to continuously listen. Once the paired phone is in range, the recording transfers to the Pebble app for transcription and organization. Pebble describes possible outputs such as notes, reminders and timers, with customization through app actions, webhooks and MCP integrations. Pebble’s product listing and its production update describe the workflow and current software.
The ring is an audio input device, not a conventional biometric smart ring. Pebble says it has no heart-rate or other health tracking, speaker, or vibration motor. It works with iPhone and Android phones.
Where does the AI run, and is the ring always listening?
The ring captures audio; the paired phone does the processing. Pebble says its app uses local speech-to-text and an on-device LLM to choose actions, and can work offline without a cloud service. “On-device” here means the phone, not the ring. Launch materials also mentioned an optional cloud service for higher-quality speech-to-text, so the local workflow should not be taken to mean every possible processing option is cloud-free. Pebble’s launch announcement describes that option.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Recording: Pebble says audio is captured only while the button is pressed.
- Transfer: Recordings move to the paired phone when it is in range; the ring can retain up to five minutes of audio while away from the phone.
- Privacy claims: Pebble says the ring-phone connection is encrypted and recordings are processed locally in its open-source app.
Pebble’s descriptions of optional cloud backup have changed over time: the launch FAQ described it as planned, while a later update discussed user-controlled encryption keys. Check Pebble’s current help documentation for the present backup implementation and settings rather than assuming a particular cloud-backup setup.
Does Pebble Index 01 really never need charging?
It does not need recharging because it uses a non-rechargeable silver-oxide battery. That is not the same as lasting forever: the battery eventually runs down, and Pebble says the ring should be returned for recycling. The company expects owners may order another ring when that happens.

| Estimate | Use assumption and qualification |
|---|---|
| Up to two years; about 12–15 total recording hours | Pebble’s product FAQ estimate, based on 10–20 recordings a day lasting 3–6 seconds each. Pebble product listing |
| Roughly three years | Pebble’s 2026 update estimate based on testers averaging about one minute of recording per day. This is a company estimate, not an independently verified battery test. Pebble production update |
The estimates use different recording patterns, so they are not directly comparable guarantees. Actual life depends on how much the ring records.
How much does it cost, and when does it ship?
At the time Pebble’s product listing was accessed in 2026, it displayed a price of $75 USD and said new orders ship in 1–2 months. The same page says the price will rise to $99 after pre-orders. These are live-page claims that can change; check the listing before ordering. See Pebble’s current product listing.

The $75 preorder and $99 later price also appeared in Pebble’s December 2025 launch announcement, which said shipping would begin in March. That was launch-era information, not a current delivery promise. The product page says no paid subscription is required for its stated app workflow.
What are the practical limits?
- Short captures, not long recordings: Pebble specifies up to five minutes of audio storage on the ring when it is away from the phone. It is best suited to brief thoughts and reminders.
- Water exposure: The ring is made primarily of stainless steel 316 with a liquid silicone rubber button and is rated for water resistance to 1 meter. Pebble says handwashing and showering are acceptable, but swimming is not recommended; its update also cautions against high-pressure water and hot steam.
- Wear and durability: Pebble warns that the ring can scratch, the microphone can be blocked, and the button can wear.
- Warranty: Pebble’s listing states a 30-day warranty against manufacturing defects after receipt.
- Software maturity: Pebble says the software is new and may have bugs or features that do not work for every user at all times.
Who is Index 01 for?
It may suit someone who regularly has fleeting ideas to capture and wants a discreet physical button rather than opening a phone recorder. The trade-off is a specialized tool: it does not track health, and its usefulness depends on the phone app’s transcription and action workflow. People who want a rechargeable wearable, long-form recording, or biometric features should look for a different category of device.

For context, TechCrunch reported on December 9, 2025 that Sandbar’s announced Stream Ring was priced at $249, with a free tier and a $10-per-month Stream Pro plan. Those are dated launch-report figures, not verified current terms. The comparison is useful mainly as a reminder to compare capture method, processing location, subscription requirements and battery model—not to treat the two rings as health trackers. TechCrunch’s launch report also quoted Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky describing the ring as “external memory for my brain.”
