Lithuanian-born watchmaker Liudas Norkus taught himself horology after moving to England, then turned years of studying movements into the LN1 Regulator, his debut watch. Its regulator-style display and layered, 38-part dial make the design distinctive; its movement is a modified Seagull ST3600 with selected components made by Norkus.
Who is Liudas Norkus?
Norkus grew up in a Lithuanian town of about 800 people and moved to England in 2015. He worked full time until 2021. His interest in watchmaking began in 2019, after he came across a magazine featuring independent watch designs and started wondering how mechanical watches worked.
He says he bought a £25 watch repair kit and opened one of his own mechanical watches. He had not attended watchmaking school; instead, he learned through online research and by studying movements. In 2019, he also connected with New Hampshire watchmaker Denis Carignan, whose knowledge and teaching supported him over the following five years. These biographical details are from Norkus’s interview with MONOCHROME Watches, published 17 March 2025.
Learning by taking movements apart
Norkus studied purchased movements with measuring tools, callipers, a depthing tool and a microscope with a digital camera, then recreated designs in CAD. His studies included a dual open-heart movement, fusee-and-chain pocket-watch movements and the Seagull ST3600 that would become the basis for the LN1.

What is the LN1 Regulator?
The LN1 is Norkus’s debut watch. He completed its design in 2022, drawing on pocket watches and regulator watches for its traditional elements. A regulator separates the hour and minute indications rather than placing them together on a conventional central display. On the LN1, the hours are at 12, the minutes are central, and an openworked barrel at 5 reveals the mainspring.
The watch’s dial and indications comprise 38 individual parts arranged across multiple levels. MONOCHROME’s interview describes a stainless-steel case with a domed box sapphire crystal. Norkus gives the case width as 41 mm and the case thickness, excluding the crystal, as 6.2 mm; total height with the crystal is 11.2 mm.

Movement and finishing
Norkus chose the Seagull ST3600 after observing one run over several years. He said the movement offered a route to a watch at a more accessible price. The LN1 does not use a wholly in-house movement: Norkus modified the ST3600 to suit his dial design and made selected components, including the top plate, bridges with pins, pillars and barrels, using a lathe and milling machine.
According to the interview, the barrel lid and hands were laser-cut in the UK, and Norkus hand-finished visible components with sandblasting and hand tools. The visible bridges and hands are 24k gold-plated; the mainplate is sandblasted and lacquered. He expected most parts in production watches to be made for him while he continued making some smaller components and hand-finishing each watch.

The movement’s reported power reserve is not consistent across the available descriptions. MONOCHROME gives 40 hours and a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour; the IndependentWatchmaking.com maker directory, accessed 4 October 2026, lists roughly 46 hours without explaining the difference. Those should be treated as attributed figures, not reconciled into a single specification.
How much did the LN1 cost, and is it available now?
MONOCHROME reported on 17 March 2025 that two batches of 100 LN1s had sold out after launch: the first batch was priced at £900 and the second at £1,100. The article said 200 pieces sold in 24 hours and that the first 100 allocations went in three hours. These are dated interview and launch figures, not a current price or an independently audited sales report.

The sources reviewed do not establish whether another LN1 production run or an active resale channel exists, so current availability cannot be confirmed from them. The 2025 interview says Norkus hoped to do more movement work in-house for an LN2 and that the next watch might be made in the United States. The directory describes the LN2 as in development, but neither source establishes a launch date or order status.

Norkus described his ambitions to MONOCHROME this way: “I want to spend more time studying horology, be able to make more components by myself and find new ideas to bring together in a watch.” The LN1 reflects that direction: a design-led first watch built around a modified movement, with visible work that reaches beyond assembly and finishing.
