The L. Leroy Vox Temporis turns conventional time display around: its dial rotates beneath a fixed arrow-shaped hour marker, while a minute repeater supplies the precise time by sound. That makes this 43 mm watch less an exercise in glanceable legibility than an interactive blend of restrained display and elaborate mechanics.
How does the Vox Temporis tell time?
Rather than placing moving hands over a stationary dial, the Vox Temporis keeps an arrow-shaped hour indicator fixed and rotates the dial beneath it. The arrow points to the hour; the sparse display does not provide a conventional minute hand. To hear the precise time, the wearer operates a separate slider on the case flank. The minute repeater chimes the hours, quarters and minutes.
Time+Tide describes the dial as having a sunburst or flinqué effect and notes that the face carries no branding. Dial color varies by case: silver for titanium, anthracite for red gold and blue for platinum. Deployant contributor Chester Lau’s assessment is that the visual display gives only an estimate of the hour and the repeater is the practical route to minute-level information. Time+Tide, by contrast, frames the watch as an interactive, sound-led object. Those are editorial interpretations of the design, not measured legibility results.
What is the design inspired by?
Time+Tide and InsideHook connect the rotating-display concept to an 1810 L. Leroy tact watch made for the Prince of Hesse. As those publications tell it, the historical piece was intended to be checked by touch in darkness. That lineage is a reported design inspiration; the sources cited here do not independently authenticate the historical connection.

What powers the repeater and tourbillon?
The reported calibre is L601SQR, a hand-wound movement combining a minute repeater with a flying one-minute tourbillon. Time+Tide gives 321 components, a 3 Hz frequency (21,600 vibrations per hour) and a 90-hour power reserve from a single barrel. It describes two hammers striking separate gongs and a 76-part flying tourbillon.
There is a winding-description inconsistency in Time+Tide: its article body identifies the movement as hand-wound, but its summary specification table calls it automatic. InsideHook also labels the calibre hand-wound. The tourbillon is a notable mechanical feature, but its presence alone does not establish exceptional accuracy; no independent accuracy test is reported here.

What are the case and dimensions?
The case measures 43 mm across and is reported in Grade 5 titanium, 18K red gold or platinum. Time+Tide describes a hinged officer- or hunter-style caseback: a pusher near 4 o’clock opens it to reveal the movement through sapphire. This is distinct from the minute-repeater slider on the case flank.
Published thickness figures conflict: Time+Tide reports 14.74 mm, while Deployant gives 13.95 mm. Neither source reconciles the difference, so the exact thickness should be confirmed with L. Leroy. Both Time+Tide and InsideHook report 30 m water resistance. Time+Tide also specifies an alligator-leather strap.

What are the versions, edition size and reported prices?
Time+Tide lists references LL303/1 in titanium, LL301/1 in red gold and LL302/1 in platinum. It and InsideHook report an edition of 15 pieces total across the three materials—not 15 examples of each. The reported prices below come from different publications and markets, and are not a reconciled or guaranteed current price list.

Who is this watch for?
The Vox Temporis makes most sense for someone drawn to an unusual way of interacting with a watch: a minimal visual cue for the hour and a mechanical chime for the minutes. Its appeal is the contrast between that sparse face and the complexity of a repeater and flying tourbillon. If reading the exact time instantly at a glance is the priority, the missing minute hand is a meaningful trade-off rather than a hidden benefit.
