Its appeal is clear on paper: a purpose-built racing chronograph in a restrained steel case, backed by detailed manufacturer specifications. What the official information cannot establish is how comfortable it feels on a particular wrist, how easily its dial reads in varied light, or whether it is readily available to buy.
What the Rolex Daytona 126500LN is
Rolex identifies the steel Cosmograph Daytona as reference 126500LN. The white-dial configuration reviewed here is listed as M126500LN-0001 on the Rolex US product page. The model belongs to a chronograph line Rolex says launched in 1963 to meet the needs of professional racing drivers, according to its official product history.
That heritage gives the watch a clear purpose, but the 126500LN is also a contemporary luxury watch with specific, verifiable strengths: a ceramic tachymeter bezel, a mechanical chronograph movement and a robustly specified case. The available evidence here is manufacturer material, so this review assesses the watch’s design and specifications rather than claiming hands-on findings.
Design and case specifications
The Oyster case measures 40 mm in diameter and is made of Oystersteel. Rolex lists a monobloc middle case, screw-down case back and screw-down Triplock winding crown. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal covers the dial, while the black monobloc Cerachrom bezel carries a moulded tachymetric scale.

These are specifications, not a promise that every example or use case will suit every wearer. A 40 mm diameter alone does not determine wrist fit: case shape, thickness, bracelet sizing and personal preference also matter, and the official listing does not settle subjective comfort.
What the chronograph and tachymeter do
The chronograph records elapsed intervals. Its central seconds hand is paired with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. Small seconds are at 6 o’clock; the central hour and minute hands show the time, and the movement includes stop seconds for setting.

The bezel’s tachymetric scale is used with the chronograph to calculate average speed over a measured distance. It is a timing aid, not a speed sensor: the user starts and stops the chronograph against a known distance, then reads the scale. Rolex describes this function on its Daytona product-history page.
Calibre 4131: what it adds
The 126500LN uses Rolex calibre 4131, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement. Rolex says the calibre was introduced on the Daytona in 2023. Its described construction includes a column wheel and vertical clutch for chronograph engagement, a patented Chronergy escapement, Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration, a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers.

Those details explain the movement’s architecture and manufacturer-provided features; they are not independent proof of superior durability or performance against other chronographs. Rolex states precision of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing and identifies the watch as a Superlative Chronometer. That is the manufacturer’s stated standard, not a real-world timing result for an individual watch.
126500 vs. 116500: what can be compared reliably
Searchers often ask whether the 126500 is better than the 116500, especially for design and comfort. The available official material establishes the 126500’s features and calibre generation, but it does not provide a complete side-by-side specification history for the 116500 or firsthand wear comparisons. It would therefore be misleading to declare one more comfortable or legible based on this evidence alone.

A useful comparison should check the exact references and configurations being considered, then compare case and bezel construction, movement generation, chronograph layout, water resistance, bracelet adjustment and price in the same market and at the same date. For comfort, a try-on or a genuinely firsthand review is more informative than case diameter alone.

Rolex US list price and availability
The Rolex US product page lists $16,900 USD for the white-dial M126500LN-0001 configuration at the time reflected by that listing. This is Rolex’s US listed price, not a secondary-market value or a guarantee of what a buyer will pay. The page does not establish dealer stock, allocation, resale pricing or availability in other countries; check the live listing and authorized retailers for current purchasing information.
Verdict
The 126500LN makes a strong specification-led case: a classic racing-chronograph layout, ceramic tachymeter bezel, 100-metre water resistance and calibre 4131 with a clearly stated Rolex precision specification. It is an appealing choice for someone seeking the modern steel Daytona configuration, but a paper review cannot answer the personal questions that matter most at this price—fit, comfort and dial legibility. Try it on if possible, and treat list price and actual availability as separate questions.
