Rolex Datejust 36 Ref. 126234: A Month on the Wrist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Rolex Datejust 36 ref. 126234 is the modern 36 mm Datejust in White Rolesor: an Oystersteel case paired with an 18 ct white-gold fluted bezel. Its sapphire crystal, 100-metre water resistance and calibre 3235 make it suitable for daily wear, while the bezel and dial provide the formal identity associated with the Datejust.

What is the Rolex Datejust 36 ref. 126234?

Reference 126234 is a 36 mm Oyster Perpetual Datejust. “White Rolesor” means the watch combines Rolex Oystersteel with 18 ct white gold; on this reference, the white-gold component is the fluted bezel. It is the current expression of the original Datejust proportion, not the larger 41 mm Datejust.

The case has a monobloc middle, screw-down case back and Twinlock winding crown. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal covers the dial and includes Rolex’s Cyclops lens over the date. The stated water-resistance rating is 100 metres (330 feet).

Rolex describes the fluted bezel as “a mark of distinction.” Its ridges originally helped screw the bezel onto the case to ensure waterproofness; the feature later became a visual signature.

Movement and everyday performance

The 126234 uses Rolex calibre 3235, a self-winding mechanical movement certified as a Superlative Chronometer. Rolex specifies precision of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing.

  • Power reserve: approximately 70 hours.
  • Frequency: 4 Hz.
  • Jewels: 31.
  • Winding system: bidirectional Perpetual rotor.
  • Escapement: Chronergy.
  • Shock and magnetism protection: blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers.
  • Date display: instantaneous date change, magnified by the Cyclops lens.

The roughly 70-hour reserve lets the watch run through a typical weekend off the wrist if it was fully wound beforehand. As with any mechanical watch, the -2/+2-second figure is a certification target rather than a promise that every individual day will show exactly the same result.

Jubilee or Oyster: which 126234 configuration fits?

Rolex offers the 126234 with either a five-link Jubilee bracelet or a three-link Oyster bracelet. The case and movement are the same; the bracelet changes the watch’s visual character, feel and listed price.

Configuration Visual character Wearing considerations Documented US list price
Jubilee bracelet More intricate and traditionally dressy; the many smaller links complement the fluted bezel and make the watch read as distinctly Datejust. Its articulated links generally feel more flexible around the wrist. The polished center links add shine and require more attention to visible marks. $10,100 for the documented black-dial Jubilee configuration on Rolex’s US page.
Oyster bracelet Cleaner and sportier, with broad three-link geometry that gives the fluted bezel a stronger contrast. Its simpler link layout has a more straightforward, robust appearance. It is often the less formal choice with casual clothing. $9,900 for the documented Oyster-bracelet configuration on Rolex’s US page.

The Jubilee is the natural choice if the 126234’s dress-watch heritage is the priority. The Oyster makes the same 36 mm case feel quieter and more versatile for someone who prefers a restrained bracelet. Neither is a different technical specification of the watch itself.

Dial, bezel and legibility choices

The white-gold fluted bezel supplies the defining 126234 look, but the dial determines how formal or understated the result feels. A black dial offers strong contrast with the date aperture and hands and is the configuration for which Rolex’s US page documents the $10,100 Jubilee price. Other dial options can differ in availability and secondary-market demand, so identify the exact dial rather than treating every 126234 listing as interchangeable.

Fluting catches light across each ridge, making the watch more conspicuous than a smooth-bezel Datejust. That effect is intentional: the bezel is decorative in daily use today, even though its original design helped secure the case for water resistance. Dial color, hour-marker style and bracelet combination can shift the watch from business-formal to relatively casual without changing the reference number.

How much does a Rolex 126234 cost?

For the United States configurations documented by Rolex, the current list prices are:

Rank #2

  • Pre-Loved Condition: Excellent; Minor scratching to hardware
  • 36mm

WatchCharts lists $9,900 as authorized-dealer retail pricing in its September 2026 entry. Because Rolex pricing is configuration- and market-specific, do not use either figure as a universal price for every dial, bracelet or country.

What is a fair pre-owned price?

There is no single authoritative fair price for a used 126234. WatchCharts and Chrono24 are useful references for seeing current listings and variant availability, but asking prices are not the same as completed sale prices. A realistic comparison requires matching the exact reference and configuration.

Check the watch itself

  • Confirm the reference suffix or configuration, bracelet type and dial description.
  • Verify that the dial is original to the watch or that any replacement is clearly documented.
  • Inspect polishing: softened case edges or an over-polished bezel can materially affect desirability.
  • Assess bracelet stretch, clasp condition and whether all original links are included.

Check the package and history

  • Ask for service records and establish when the movement was last serviced.
  • Confirm the warranty card, box, papers and matching identifying details when advertised as a complete set.
  • Check the seller’s reputation, written return terms and the conditions of any warranty.
  • Use an independent authentication or inspection service before the return period expires.

A lower asking price may reflect missing links, incomplete papers, heavy polishing, uncertain originality or a seller with weaker protections. Conversely, a complete, lightly worn example with documented service can command more without proving that the higher number represents a completed transaction.

Is the 126234 suitable for everyday wear?

On paper, yes. The 100-metre rating, screw-down architecture, sapphire crystal and automatic calibre are daily-use specifications rather than merely decorative features. The watch remains a mechanical instrument, however: ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposure to water, and have water resistance checked during servicing or after any case work.

The 36 mm diameter preserves the Datejust’s historically balanced proportion and suits wrists that find a 41 mm watch too dominant. It also avoids the assumption that “Datejust” means one universal size: the 126234 is specifically 36 mm.

Who should choose the 126234?

  • Choose it for: the classic 36 mm Datejust scale, a white-gold fluted bezel, a date magnifier, substantial water resistance and the long power reserve of calibre 3235.
  • Choose Jubilee when: you want the most traditional, jewelry-like Datejust presentation and a more articulated bracelet feel.
  • Choose Oyster when: you prefer a simpler, sportier appearance and the lower documented US list price.
  • Look elsewhere when: you specifically want a 41 mm case, a smooth bezel, a non-date Rolex design or a watch with a manually wound or quartz movement.

The 126234’s appeal is its balance: the steel case and practical specifications support regular wear, while the white-gold fluting keeps the watch unmistakably formal. The right purchase is therefore less about finding one universal “best” 126234 than matching the bracelet, dial, condition and documentation to how you will actually wear it.
