The Rolex Daytona 116500LN is the 40 mm stainless-steel Daytona identified by its black Cerachrom tachymeter bezel and calibre 4130. It was offered with black or white dials, according to Chrono24’s reference guide. This is an evidence-led owner’s review: the reference’s identity and functions are documented, but no firsthand wear or long-term ownership experience is established here.
What the 116500LN is—and what it is not
Chrono24’s reference guide identifies the 116500LN as a 40 mm Daytona with calibre 4130, a black ceramic bezel and an Oyster bracelet; it lists black and white dial variants. Those are reference-specific details from a secondary source. See Chrono24’s 116500LN reference guide.
Rolex’s current Daytona overview describes the present family and its calibre 4131. That successor-era information should not be carried over to the 116500LN, whose movement is calibre 4130. The current family overview is useful for understanding the Daytona’s functions, not as proof of every specification of this older reference: Rolex’s Daytona overview.
What the chronograph and tachymeter do
The chronograph measures elapsed time. Rolex explains that the central chronograph seconds hand records intervals to one-eighth of a second, while the dial counters track elapsed minutes and hours. It is a timing function rather than a requirement for ordinary timekeeping.

The tachymeter bezel converts elapsed time over a known distance into average speed. For example, if a vehicle covers one kilometre and the chronograph records the elapsed time, the scale can indicate its average speed in units per hour. Rolex describes the current Daytona family scale as reaching up to 400 units per hour; this is family-level information, not a separately verified 116500LN measurement.
What can—and cannot—be said about wearing it
A reference guide and official product material cannot establish whether a particular 116500LN feels comfortable, heavy, discreet, or suitable as a daily watch. Fit depends on the wearer, bracelet adjustment and the individual watch. Anyone considering one should try the exact example on, assess how the bracelet and clasp fit, and check legibility and control operation in person rather than rely on generic comfort claims.

For a comparison with the current Daytona or another chronograph, distinguish movement generation (4130 versus 4131), dial and bezel appearance, fit, condition and service documentation, purchase protections, and region-specific price. Similar purpose does not make the newer model a drop-in substitute.
Care and servicing
Rolex recommends occasional cleaning with a microfiber cloth. It says the case and bracelet may be washed with soapy water and a soft brush, with the crown screwed down first; after sea use, rinse the watch in fresh water to remove salt and sand. Rolex recommends professional servicing approximately every 10 years, depending on the model and real-life use. Its described service process includes disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, inspection and replacement of parts that no longer meet its requirements, lubrication and electronic testing, and refinishing of the case and metal bracelet. Rolex says professional polishing of the case and bracelet should only be done by an Official Rolex Service Center.
There is no universal service price for an individual 116500LN: cost depends on the work required and the watch’s condition. Rolex says it provides an estimate before service. Its FAQ says a complete overhaul takes a minimum of four to six weeks, with the actual duration depending on condition. Contact an appropriate service provider for a region-specific estimate after inspection.

How to assess a pre-owned 116500LN
Rolex sells new watches exclusively through Official Rolex Jewelers and directs prospective buyers to local authorized jewelers for regional availability and prices. A discontinued 116500LN is therefore likely to be encountered through secondary-market listings, but the existence of a listing does not verify the seller or the watch.
- Assess the seller and protections. Check the seller’s reputation, return terms and any authentication or dispute process. No general reference guide can validate a specific listing.
- Inspect the individual watch. Have its physical condition assessed, including the case, bracelet, clasp, bezel and operation. Do not infer condition from photographs or the reference number alone.
- Review service and ownership documentation. Ask for available service records and establish what is included. If box or papers are represented as included, verify that they accompany the specific watch.
- Check guarantee details rather than assuming coverage. Rolex states that its five-year international guarantee applies to qualifying new watches bought from Official Rolex Jewelers and requires a completed guarantee card. The guarantee excludes specified accidents, abuse, unauthorized repair or opening, and non-genuine parts. A used 116500LN should not be assumed to have active manufacturer coverage; verify the card, purchase date and eligibility.
- Compare prices cautiously. Marketplace asking prices are snapshots, not completed-sale evidence, appraisals or forecasts. Chrono24’s page includes changing offers and historical commentary; it does not establish a reliable set of completed-sale data for a valuation.
What the available evidence does not establish
The documented reference identity and timing functions do not establish an individual watch’s authenticity, service history, condition, comfort, reliability, owner satisfaction or resale return. Those questions require evidence about the particular example, its seller and its records. For precise reference identification, Chrono24 is a secondary source; Rolex’s current Daytona material describes the current family rather than serving as a specification sheet for the 116500LN.
