Its first Galaxy Watch with Fan Edition branding is a compact 40mm Wear OS smartwatch with sapphire crystal, health and fitness tracking, and Samsung ecosystem features. It launched at $199.99 for Bluetooth in the U.S.; it does not pair with iPhone, and some health functions require a Samsung phone.
What Samsung announced
Samsung positioned the Galaxy Watch FE as a lower-cost way to bring Galaxy Watch health monitoring and connected features to more people. It was the first Galaxy Watch to carry the FE name. The 40mm watch launched in Black, Pink Gold, and Silver, with bands featuring blue or orange stitching and a one-click band-change design.
The announcement was made June 13, 2024. Samsung said the Bluetooth model would go on sale in the United States on June 24, while global availability was planned for summer 2024. Regional launches differed: the U.K. Bluetooth model was scheduled for June 21 at £199, and Japan’s Bluetooth release was July 31. These are historical launch dates and prices, not confirmation of current stock.
Launch price and model options
Samsung’s U.S. MSRP documentation dated December 2024 listed the Bluetooth model at $199.99 and the LTE model at $249.99. Samsung’s U.K. launch announcement listed Bluetooth at £199. Promotions, trade-ins, and remaining-stock prices can differ, and those figures should not be read as current prices.
#1 Best Overall
- BioActive Sensor Technology: Advanced sensor measures heart rate, blood oxygen, and body composition for detailed wellness insights.
- Super AMOLED Display: 1.2-inch always-on display delivers sharp visuals and clear readability for notifications and fitness data.
- Wear OS Powered by Samsung: Access Google apps, Play Store, and seamless integration with compatible Android devices.
- Durable and Lightweight Design: Aluminum case with water and dust resistance designed for everyday use and active lifestyles.
- Comprehensive Fitness and Sleep Tracking: Tracks workouts, activity, sleep patterns, and provides insights to support daily wellness goals.
| Model | Best suited to | Connectivity trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth/Wi-Fi | People who usually keep their phone nearby | Relies more on the paired phone for calls, messages, and data away from Wi-Fi. |
| LTE | People who want cellular connectivity when leaving their phone behind | Costs more at the listed U.S. MSRP and requires a compatible carrier and service plan. |
Samsung’s U.S. Bluetooth availability date was June 24, 2024; the U.S. announcement said LTE would follow. Availability and timing varied by market, so an old launch announcement does not establish that an LTE unit or service is currently available where you live.
Design, display and specifications
The FE has an aluminum 40mm case and a 1.2-inch, 396 × 396 Super AMOLED display with full-color Always-On Display. Samsung says the screen is protected by Sapphire Crystal glass. Its single case size makes it a compact option, but there is no larger FE version.

Samsung’s U.S. and global specification pages do not agree on every hardware detail: the U.S. page lists 25.9g, Bluetooth 5.0, and MIL-STD-810G, while the global table lists 26.6g, Bluetooth 5.3, and MIL-STD-810H. The published figures therefore should not be combined into one definitive regional specification. Samsung specifies water-resistance ratings; that is not a promise that the watch is suitable for diving or high-pressure water activities.
Health and fitness features—and their limits
Samsung promoted its BioActive Sensor for optical heart-rate monitoring, electrical heart monitoring, and bioelectrical impedance analysis for body composition. The software also offers sleep-pattern tracking and coaching, heart-rate alerts, more than 100 workout modes, running analysis, personalized heart-rate zones, ECG, and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN). Blood-pressure monitoring is available only in supported markets.

- These features are intended for general wellness and fitness, not diagnosis or a replacement for professional medical care.
- IHRN is designed to flag rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation; it is not a diagnosis and may not detect every episode.
- ECG, IHRN, and blood-pressure availability depends on market, regulatory approval, device, and phone. Samsung Health Monitor functions such as ECG and IHRN are limited to Samsung phones, according to Samsung’s support information.
- Blood-pressure monitoring, where supported, requires calibration with a traditional cuff every four weeks.
Phone compatibility and Samsung-only features
The Galaxy Watch FE works with Android phones, including non-Samsung models, but it does not work with iPhone. Samsung says newer Wear OS Galaxy Watches, including the FE, depend on Google Play services and cannot be paired with iOS.
Samsung’s launch announcement specified Android 11 or later and more than 1.5GB of phone memory. Its current U.S. support page lists Android 10 or higher for the FE. Because Samsung’s own materials differ, check the current Galaxy Wearable requirements for your phone and region before buying.

Core Samsung Health tracking works with Samsung and other Android phones, but the experience is not identical. Samsung’s support table lists ECG, IHRN, and sleep-apnea-related Samsung Health Monitor features as Samsung-phone dependent; Wallet availability and some calendar, reminder, music-transfer, and Samsung Find functions can also be restricted on non-Samsung phones. Notifications, calls, messages, media controls, downloadable Wear OS apps, and watch faces round out the connected features. Samsung also advertised Find My Phone, Camera Controller for compatible Galaxy phones, and Samsung Wallet, with availability dependent on market, paired phone, and software version.

The Galaxy Watch FE is an older model, not a current launch. Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. wearables MSRP file marked FE variants EOL. Samsung’s current U.S. pages feature newer Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch8 models, so the FE’s appeal now depends on a meaningful discount and the buyer’s willingness to accept older hardware. Samsung’s pages do not establish a direct performance comparison here, so newer should not be mistaken for a quantified speed or battery-life claim.
For context, Samsung’s U.S. pages showed the Galaxy Watch7 from $249.99 and the Galaxy Watch8 from $349.99 before trade-in; prices and promotions can change. The Watch7 is a newer Samsung option, while Watch8 is the newer-generation choice. Those listed prices are not guarantees of current offers.
Who should consider a Galaxy Watch FE?
It may make sense if
- You use a Samsung phone and want a small Wear OS watch with Samsung Health integration.
- You find discounted remaining stock that is substantially cheaper than a current model.
- You value sapphire crystal, workout and wellness tracking, and the Wear OS app ecosystem more than having the newest hardware.
Look elsewhere if
- You use an iPhone, want a larger case, or need Samsung’s newest watch hardware and software.
- You expect several days of battery life; Samsung’s cited specifications give a 247mAh battery but no universal runtime figure.
- You do not want to pay for a cellular plan but are considering LTE, or you need health functions that are unavailable on your phone or in your market.
If buying a used or refurbished FE, verify the exact model and condition, battery health, warranty and return terms, and—on LTE models—carrier compatibility. The FE may be a sensible inexpensive Galaxy watch if those checks work out; at a price close to a newer model, its age and feature restrictions make the newer option easier to justify.
