Samsung has responded to early Galaxy Watch7 battery-drain complaints with software updates, but the available evidence does not prove that every affected watch is fixed. The right approach is to identify your exact model, install the latest watch and app updates, run Samsung’s diagnostics, and isolate power-hungry features before considering a reset, repair, or replacement.
What Samsung actually fixed
Android Authority reported that Samsung confirmed an update was intended to address early Galaxy Watch7 battery-drain complaints. That is evidence of a software response, not a guarantee that every Watch7 now has normal endurance.
Samsung’s own [support guidance](https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10007314/) treats short battery life as a combination of possible causes: software, apps, health tracking, display settings, LTE or Wi-Fi, charging equipment, and physical damage.
The official firmware history for the SM-L305F LTE variant shows this progression:

See Samsung’s [model-specific firmware history](https://doc.samsungmobile.com/SM-L305F/030405240812/eng.html). These entries apply to one LTE model and its regional or carrier firmware. They do not establish a universal fix for every 40mm, 44mm, Bluetooth, or LTE Watch7.
As of August 18, 2026, the defensible conclusion is that Samsung has issued continuing updates that may improve battery behavior, while no reviewed public changelog proves that all reported drain has been permanently resolved.
Start with the model, not the headline
Watch7 runtime cannot be judged without separating size and connectivity. Samsung lists these capacities in its corporate materials:
| Watch7 version | Battery | Important context |
|---|---|---|
| 40mm Bluetooth | 300mAh | Smallest battery; generally needs charging sooner |
| 40mm LTE | 300mAh | Cellular use can increase consumption |
| 44mm Bluetooth | 425mAh | Larger battery than 40mm |
| 44mm LTE | 425mAh | Largest Watch7 battery, but LTE remains a variable |
Source: Samsung’s [2026 first-quarter interim report](https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/assets/global/ir/docs/2026_1Q_Interim_Report.pdf). A 40mm watch lasting less time than a 44mm model is not, by itself, evidence of a defect. LTE signal strength, GPS workouts, always-on display, sleep tracking, continuous heart rate, stress monitoring, notifications, watch faces, and third-party apps can change results substantially.

Check whether your watch has the latest software
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the connected phone.
- Tap Watch settings or the Settings tab.
- Open About watch, then Update watch software.
- Choose Update now or Download updates manually.
- Separately update watch apps: open Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings/Settings → Galaxy Store → More options → My page → Update → Watch → Update all.
The watch may disconnect from the phone during installation; Samsung says this is expected. Menu names can vary by country, model, carrier, and software generation. Do not assume a phone update also updated the watch.
A safe troubleshooting sequence
1. Record the symptom
Write down the model number, 40mm or 44mm size, Bluetooth or LTE status, software build, time from 100% to 50%, temperature, and whether drain occurs while idle, during GPS exercise, or overnight. Note any app or service shown as a major consumer. This gives Samsung useful evidence and distinguishes normal heavy use from a runaway process.
2. Restart the watch
Hold the Home and Back keys until the Samsung logo appears, as described in [Android Authority’s troubleshooting guide](https://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-watch-7-problems-fixes-3464652/). A restart is low-risk and should come before a reset.
3. Allow limited settling time
After a major update or fresh setup, synchronization and indexing can temporarily increase consumption. If severe drain continues for weeks, treat it as a problem rather than assuming it is normal.

4. Run Samsung diagnostics
In the updated Samsung Members app, open the Support tab and choose Connected Device Diagnostics. With the phone and watch connected, tests can include battery status, sensors, Wi-Fi, official software, update status, wireless charging, location accuracy, and notifications. Samsung describes the feature [here](https://research.samsung.com/news/Diagnose-your-Galaxy-Watch-Conveniently).
5. Test the largest avoidable drains
- Disable Always On Display: Settings → Display → Always On Display.
- Reduce automatic heart-rate checks: Samsung Health → Heart rate → Auto HR Settings → Never.
- Turn off automatic stress tracking: Samsung Health → Stress → Auto stress settings → Off.
- Disable unused Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or mobile-network connections under Settings → Connections.
- Turn off Bixby or Google Assistant voice wake-up and unnecessary notifications.
- Close background apps and clean storage or RAM through Galaxy Wearable.
- Use Settings → Battery and device care → Battery management/Battery → Power saving.
- Use Watch only mode when smart features are unnecessary.
These are trade-offs, not universal cures. AOD reduces glanceability; reduced health tracking removes measurements; Power saving limits background activity and connectivity. On LTE models, disabling mobile networks improves endurance but removes cellular service while disabled and does not cancel the carrier subscription.
6. Inspect charging equipment
Check the watch and charger for damage, liquid exposure, heat, or poor alignment. Samsung recommends approved charging equipment; a faulty or incompatible charger can look like rapid battery drain because the watch never reaches or maintains a full charge.
When is the battery probably a hardware problem?
Software or app behavior is more likely when drain began immediately after an update, improves after disabling a particular feature, is concentrated in one app, the watch stays cool, or a restart temporarily restores normal use.

- Next-Generation 3nm Processor: Exynos W1000 chipset delivers significantly faster performance and smoother app navigation.
Seek Samsung support when any of these persist:
- Large losses continue while the watch is idle after updating and restarting.
- The watch becomes unusually hot without intensive use.
- The percentage falls erratically or charging repeatedly stops and starts.
- Diagnostics flags the battery or wireless-charging system.
- Runtime remains poor in Power saving mode with minimal connectivity.
- The issue survives a clean reset, or there is physical or liquid damage.
Samsung’s guidance directs owners to Samsung Support or Samsung Members when inspection and troubleshooting do not solve the problem. Warranty and replacement eligibility depend on country, purchase date, seller, and the nature of the fault.

Do not erase the watch before recording its build, battery pattern, diagnostic result, and suspected app. Back up first through Galaxy Wearable → Account and backup → Back up and restore → Back up data. Then, if updates, restart, diagnostics, and settings tests have failed, use Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → General → Reset → Reset.
A reset can remove corrupted settings or a rogue app state, but it requires re-pairing and does not repair a damaged battery, charger, or unresolved firmware defect.
Should you keep, repair, or replace it?
Keep the Watch7
Keep it if an update or targeted settings change restores acceptable runtime. This is especially sensible when diagnostics reports normal battery health.

Request service
Use Samsung Members or official support when the hardware warning signs above appear. Service is preferable to buying another watch before establishing that the existing unit is defective.
Consider a replacement
If you replace the watch, compare total cost, size, cellular needs, and battery capacity rather than assuming a newer model is immune to software problems. Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP list puts Watch7 at $249.99–$329.99, Watch8 at $349.99–$429.99, Watch8 Classic at $499.99–$549.99, and Watch Ultra at $649.99. These are list prices, not guaranteed current retail prices; see the [Samsung MSRP document](https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/assets/us/business/solutions/industries/government/msrp-price-sheets/SamsungWearablesMSRPPriceFileJune2026.pdf).
A 44mm Watch7 offers a 425mAh battery instead of 300mAh, but it is larger and may fit differently. Watch8 or Ultra may offer a newer platform or larger battery class, yet price alone does not prove better real-world endurance.
The Bottom Line
Samsung’s battery response is real, but “fixed” is justified only for a specific model and build with supporting evidence. Update the watch and apps, restart, run diagnostics, isolate major drains, and check the charger before resetting or replacing it. Persistent heat, charging faults, abnormal diagnostics, or poor runtime after a clean reset point toward Samsung service rather than another settings tweak.
