Samsung’s July 14 teaser pointed to an unnamed, health-focused Galaxy Watch. At Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, the company revealed two models: Galaxy Watch9 for everyday health tracking and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 for demanding outdoor activities and diving. The headline details include updated health features, larger published battery capacities, and specialized Ultra2 outdoor and diving specifications—but these are Samsung’s announcements, not independent test results.
What Samsung revealed—and when
Samsung’s July 14 teaser described a new always-on, health-first Galaxy Watch with upgraded internals, longer battery life, extended tracking, greater accuracy, and AI-driven insights. It did not identify a model. Samsung named the products at its July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event in London: Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2. Its launch announcement positions them for different needs, rather than presenting them as interchangeable versions of one watch.

These figures and comparisons are published by Samsung, not independent measurements. In particular, the Watch9’s 390 mAh and 20% comparison apply to the 40 mm model; Samsung’s announcement lists both 40 mm and 44 mm sizes but does not provide those same figures for the 44 mm model. The launch report calls Ultra2’s display brightness of up to 5,000 nits “a first for a smartwatch”; that is Samsung’s claim.
What’s new in Samsung Health
Samsung describes its updated Samsung Health experience through five areas: Activity, Mindfulness, Nutrition, Sleep, and Vitals. The announced functions include Sleep Apnea analysis, sleep-time Vitals, Heart Health Score, Fitness Index, and Daily Cardio Load. These describe the features Samsung says the watches offer; the announcement does not independently establish their diagnostic accuracy or health outcomes.

Ultra2’s outdoor and diving features
Trail running
Samsung says Ultra2 adds Trail Run metrics for elevation, climbing progress, and cumulative ascent and descent. Those are aimed at giving outdoor runners more route and effort information on the watch.
Diving
Samsung says Ultra2 can automatically record depth, dive time, and water temperature, and lists EN13319 certification alongside 10ATM water resistance and an IP69K rating. Its announcement also describes advanced diving features developed with Mares. Those features require a separate app and were scheduled for later in 2026; the launch material does not establish whether they have since become available, so check current Samsung or Mares information before relying on them.

Which model fits your use?
- Consider Watch9 if your priority is everyday health tracking across sleep, exercise, cardiovascular health, and recovery, and you want a choice between 40 mm and 44 mm sizes.
- Consider Ultra2 if its 47 mm format suits you and you specifically want Samsung’s announced Trail Run metrics and diving-oriented specifications.
- Wait for independent testing if battery runtime, real-world brightness, tracking accuracy, or health-feature performance will determine your choice. Samsung’s published capacities and feature descriptions do not answer how the watches perform under particular use conditions.
