They are not established as the same price: Seiko’s approximate U.S. recommended retail price for the limited-edition SLA037J1 was $6,300 when announced in 2020, while Omega’s Japan listing for the 41 mm Seamaster 300 reference 234.30.41.21.03.001 displayed ¥1,188,000 when accessed in 2026. Those figures come from different markets and dates, so they cannot support a direct price-parity claim.
As watches, they take distinct routes to a vintage-inspired diver. The SLA037J1 is a 39.9 mm, 200 m, limited-edition re-creation of Seiko’s 1965 diver, powered by a high-beat automatic movement. The named Omega is a 41 mm, 300 m steel-bracelet model with a METAS-certified Master Chronometer movement and a stated 60-hour reserve. The comparison below is specific to these references; “Seamaster 300” can refer to other models.
Which watches are being compared?
The Seiko is the Prospex SLA037J1, introduced in 2020 as a re-creation of the 1965 Seiko diver and limited to 1,100 pieces. The Omega is the Seamaster 300 reference 234.30.41.21.03.001, the 41 mm model on Omega’s Japan product listing. The Omega reference is specified here because the original comparison title does not identify one; specifications and prices should not be generalized to every Seamaster 300.
Seiko’s launch announcement and Singapore model page provide the SLA037J1 specifications; the figures for the Omega below come from its Japan listing. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements or hands-on findings.

Are they really the same price?
That is not demonstrated by the available figures. Seiko’s $6,300 figure is an approximate U.S. recommended retail price from its 2020 announcement. Omega’s ¥1,188,000 figure is a Japan listing price observed in 2026. The currencies, regions, and dates differ; exchange conversion alone would not account for local taxes, market pricing, or subsequent price changes. Seiko’s Singapore page separately lists SGD 9,156, which is a regional listing rather than a like-for-like counterpart to either figure.

What changes on the wrist?
Seiko: slightly narrower, with a strap-first setup
The SLA037J1 measures 39.9 mm across and 47.9 mm lug-to-lug according to Seiko’s Singapore listing. Its 14.7 mm thickness is greater than the Omega’s listed 13.85 mm, so diameter alone does not describe how either case will sit. Seiko supplies it on silicone, giving the watch a different feel and adjustment experience from a metal bracelet; personal fit cannot be determined from dimensions alone.

Omega: a marginally larger case and steel bracelet
The Omega is listed at 41 mm wide and 48 mm long, nearly the same length as the Seiko but 1.1 mm wider. At 13.85 mm, it is listed as thinner. It comes on a steel bracelet, which makes bracelet fit and adjustment part of the ownership decision in a way they are not with the Seiko’s supplied silicone strap. Neither set of dimensions proves which watch will be more comfortable on a particular wrist.
How do the movements and magnetic-resistance claims differ?
Seiko’s high-beat caliber 8L55
Seiko specifies the SLA037J1’s automatic caliber 8L55 at 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 10 beats per second, with approximately 55 hours of power reserve and 37 jewels. Its stated magnetic resistance is 4,800 A/m. These specifications describe the movement and manufacturer rating; they do not establish real-world accuracy for an individual watch.

Omega’s Master Chronometer caliber 8912
Omega identifies caliber 8912 as a METAS-certified Master Chronometer, with resistance to magnetic fields greater than 15,000 gauss and a time-zone function. The listing gives a 60-hour reserve. The certification and magnetic-resistance rating are meaningful distinctions in the published specifications, but they are not a substitute for a timekeeping test of a particular watch.

The Seiko is rated to 200 m and the Omega to 300 m. Both are substantial diver-watch ratings, but water resistance is not by itself a statement about suitability for every activity or the condition of a watch years after purchase; actual use also depends on the watch’s condition and properly maintained seals.

Both models draw on vintage diver styling, but the available specifications do not establish which dial or bezel is easier to read in practice or which finishing a buyer will prefer. Seiko lists LumiBrite and a box-shaped sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating. Omega lists sapphire with inner anti-reflective treatment. A preference between their visual execution is subjective and is best assessed in person rather than inferred from those descriptions.
Which one makes more sense for you?
- Choose the SLA037J1 if you want Seiko’s specific 1965 re-creation, a 39.9 mm case, high-beat caliber 8L55, silicone strap, and the limited-edition designation. Its announced edition size is 1,100.
- Choose the Omega if you prefer the 41 mm steel-bracelet configuration, 300 m rating, METAS-certified Master Chronometer caliber 8912, time-zone function, and the stated magnetic resistance above 15,000 gauss.
- Decide locally before treating them as price rivals: compare current authorized offers for these exact references in the same market, and check warranty and service access. The cited manufacturer prices are not contemporaneous or geographically matched.
