Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSony’s WF-1000XM6 and Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 both promise premium noise cancellation, but neither manufacturer’s claim settles which pair cancels more noise in a direct comparison. Some reviewers preferred Sony in listening tests; your fit, the sounds around you and the phone you use may matter more than a blanket winner.
Is Sony’s ANC better than AirPods Pro 3?
There is no neutral, universal ANC winner established by the available comparisons. What Hi-Fi? found Sony “a little more effective across the board” in its review, and Tom’s Guide also favored Sony in its listening test. TechRadar’s reviewer, however, reported fit problems that affected their experience of Sony’s cancellation. Those are reviewers’ judgments under their own conditions, not a standardized measurement proving Sony wins for every listener.
Fit is central to the comparison: earbuds need a good seal to block noise effectively, and comfort and seal vary by ear. If one model does not sit securely, its cancellation may disappoint even if reviewers praise it. Where possible, try both with the tips that give you a stable, comfortable seal.
The manufacturers’ headline figures use different baselines. Sony says the WF-1000XM6 reduces noise by 25% compared with the WF-1000XM5, attributing the improvement to its QN3e and Integrated Processor V2 chips, adaptive optimization and four microphones in each earbud. Apple’s launch release calls AirPods Pro 3 the in-ear wireless headphones with the “world’s best ANC,” comparing them with earlier AirPods generations. Neither figure is a direct Sony-versus-Apple result.

Which pair suits your devices and listening habits?
Choose Sony if you want codec options or multipoint
Sony lists LDAC and LC3 support, multipoint, and Ambient Sound mode. Codec support may be useful if your playback setup supports the format, but its presence alone does not establish that the earbuds sound better. Sony also lists up to 12 hours of music playback with ANC disabled; actual battery life depends on use.

Choose AirPods Pro 3 if Apple-specific features matter
AirPods Pro 3 add workout heart-rate sensing and Apple’s hearing-related features. Some functions depend on compatible Apple devices, software and regional availability; Apple warns that functionality can be limited when the earbuds are paired with non-Apple devices. Check Apple’s specifications for the features and availability relevant to your location.
Compare sound for yourself
Sony’s LDAC support is a format option, not proof of superior sound. Listening impressions depend on the reviewer, test setup and personal preference. If sound quality is decisive, compare the earbuds with your usual music and source device rather than inferring a winner from a codec name or ANC claim.

Which earbuds should you buy?
- Pick Sony WF-1000XM6 if its fit works for you and you value its listed codec support and multipoint. Independent comparisons from What Hi-Fi? and Tom’s Guide favored Sony’s ANC in their listening tests, but that is not a universal result.
- Pick AirPods Pro 3 if you use Apple devices and want features such as workout heart-rate sensing or Apple’s hearing tools, or if its fit and current price suit you better.
- Try before deciding if ANC is your priority. A comfortable seal can change the experience, and reviewers’ results do not guarantee the same outcome for your ears or the noises you need to block.
