TAG Heuer’s 2023 Connected Calibre E4 news covered several related watches, not one combined model: a 45mm Sport Edition, a refreshed 42mm Golf Edition, and golf features for the 45mm Golf Edition. The Golf models added Full Shot Tracking and a redesigned golf interface; the Sport Edition emphasized multisport use and a breathable strap. As of August 18, 2026, TAG Heuer’s U.S. product pages mark all three as discontinued, so their listed prices are historical rather than current offers.
What TAG Heuer announced for 2023
The Connected Calibre E4 platform came first. TAG Heuer described the E4 as its fourth-generation Connected watch, available in 42mm and 45mm sizes. The 2023 news was a set of editions and software features built around that platform, rather than a new generation of the watch itself. TAG Heuer’s E4 overview explains the platform background.

- 45mm Sport Edition: a black titanium multisport configuration with a newly emphasized breathable rubber strap and Trail & Hiking activity support.
- 42mm Golf Edition: the smaller golf-focused model, with Full Shot Tracking, a redesigned golf interface, course maps, and a white rubber strap plus an additional black leather strap.
- 45mm Golf Edition: the larger golf model also received the golf interface and Full Shot Tracking features; it was not limited to the 42mm refresh.
TAG Heuer published its Golf Edition feature on March 25, 2023. Its announcement describes the golf software and design. A 2023 brochure noted that some functionalities would become available later that year, so launch coverage should not be read as proof that every feature was active on every watch on day one: TAG Heuer’s 42mm Golf Edition brochure.
What changed for golf
Full Shot Tracking and club recommendations
TAG Heuer says Full Shot Tracking automatically records shots and putts, associates shots with clubs, and builds performance statistics over time. It uses that history to provide personalized club recommendations, with the aim of keeping the golfer from having to operate the watch throughout a round. These are the announced functions, not independently established accuracy rates: the available product material does not quantify how reliably it identifies every shot or club in different playing conditions.

Course maps and the redesigned interface
The golf interface is designed to show distance to the next shot, club suggestions, and high-resolution 2D course maps with distances and hazards. TAG Heuer’s materials claim coverage for more than 40,000 courses worldwide. That is a company-stated coverage figure, not a guarantee that a particular course is available or mapped at the same level of detail. Check course coverage for the places you play before buying.
42mm Golf Edition hardware and package
The 42mm model (reference SBR8080.EB0284) has a 42mm black DLC-coated Grade 2 titanium case, a ceramic bezel numbered 1 through 18, sapphire crystal, and a 1.28-inch AMOLED display. It is 14.20mm thick, with a 21.09mm lug distance, and is rated to 50m water resistance. The package includes a white rubber strap and an additional black leather strap with green stitching, secured by a folding titanium clasp. TAG Heuer called it the lightest Connected watch it had produced at the time; that is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independently measured ranking.
What makes the Sport Edition different
The 45mm Sport Edition (SBR8A80.EB0259) is the more general-purpose sports choice, rather than the golf-first model. Its black sandblasted Grade 2 titanium case has a ceramic fixed bezel and a black rubberized steel crown. The black-and-red rubber strap uses a fine-mesh pattern intended to improve breathability, and it closes with a black DLC-coated steel pin buckle. TAG Heuer describes the straps as interchangeable.
The TAG Heuer Sports app supports activities including running, cycling, fitness, and swimming, while Trail & Hiking was a highlighted addition for this edition. The watch also includes Wellness features and the TAG Heuer Golf app. Barometer support is relevant to outdoor activity and elevation information, but the official material does not establish the watch as a dedicated hiking or endurance device with specialist navigation, mapping, training analytics, or long GPS-session battery life.

The historical prices and discontinued status are shown on TAG Heuer’s U.S. product pages, including the 45mm Sport Edition page, the 42mm Golf Edition page, and the 45mm Golf Edition page. They are not current offers. The Sport model’s app includes golf, but the Golf Editions make the course interface, bezel and shot-tracking features central to the package.
Shared platform, battery and compatibility
The E4 models use Wear OS by Google and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform. Core hardware includes an AMOLED screen protected by sapphire crystal, heart-rate sensor, compass, microphone, barometer, GNSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. Both case sizes are rated to 50m water resistance. That rating should not be treated as permission for every water activity; follow TAG Heuer’s operating guidance for the particular model.
Battery capacity differs materially: 330mAh in the 42mm Golf Edition and 440mAh in both 45mm editions. TAG Heuer gives a full-day estimate, not a universal runtime guarantee. Its 42mm page bases that estimate on a day including a one-hour sports session; the 45mm pages describe a full day including multiple hours of sport. The stated full charge time is about 1 hour 30 minutes. GPS use, screen brightness, notifications, health monitoring, temperature and workout duration can all affect actual runtime.

TAG Heuer’s current U.S. product pages list Android 8.1 through Android 15 (excluding Android Go) and iOS 15.4 through iOS 18.4 as compatible ranges. These are the ranges displayed for discontinued products, not a promise of future phone, app, Wear OS, or golf-course database support. Compatibility can change as phone operating systems and services evolve.
Which E4 edition suits which buyer?
Choose the 42mm Golf Edition for a smaller fit
It is the most compact option and retains the Golf Edition’s core software proposition. Its smaller case and lower historical list price may appeal to golfers who dislike oversized watches. The compromises are its smaller display and battery, as well as the fact that its full-day estimate assumes a one-hour sports session rather than multi-day endurance.
Choose the 45mm Golf Edition for screen size and golf styling
The larger display and battery, numbered bezel, golf-pattern strap with integrated ball marker, and included additional strap are the distinguishing points. Its underlying golf software proposition is broadly shared with the 42mm model; the historical price premium primarily bought a larger format and a different design and package, not a wholly separate golf platform.
Choose the Sport Edition for mixed activities
For someone who runs, cycles, hikes, swims, or trains more than they play golf, the Sport Edition’s neutral sport styling, breathable strap, and broader multisport positioning make more sense than golf-specific hardware. Its 45mm case may be too large for some wrists, and its outdoor functions should not be confused with the deeper navigation or endurance tools found on specialist sports watches.
Consider the luxury premium honestly
These watches combine TAG Heuer construction, styling, brand identity and smartwatch functions, but that does not make them automatic substitutes for specialist golf or training watches. Buyers who prioritize long battery life, extensive training analytics, recovery tools or multi-day navigation should weigh those needs against the luxury-watch experience. No current competitor prices are established here, so a precise price-to-price comparison would be misleading.
What discontinued status means for a 2026 buyer
As of August 18, 2026, TAG Heuer’s U.S. pages mark the three referenced E4 Sport and Golf models discontinued. A listed historical price is not evidence that TAG Heuer currently sells the watch new. Remaining stock, resale and gray-market listings are separate channels, and condition and support can vary by seller.
