Yes, the Pixel Watch 4 is genuinely more repairable than most sealed smartwatches. Google has published service procedures for battery and display replacement on both the 41 mm and 45 mm models, while iFixit’s 2025 teardown found screw-based assembly, replaceable gaskets and an accessible battery path. That does not make every repair easy or inexpensive: Google recommends professional help, parts and service vary by region, and a repaired watch is not automatically guaranteed to retain its original water resistance.
What “repairable” means for the Pixel Watch 4
Repairability here is based on documented, component-level service rather than a promise that owners can fix every failure at home. Google’s 2025 manuals provide procedures for replacing the battery and the display module on both case sizes. iFixit’s teardown adds the physical explanation: the watch uses screws instead of relying entirely on permanent adhesive, has replaceable gaskets, and provides a battery-access route that does not require heating the case open.
iFixit gave the Pixel Watch 4 a provisional 9/10 repairability score in 2025. That is iFixit’s assessment under its own rubric, not a regulatory certification or an industry-wide standard. iFixit also notes that the rubric can change, so historical scores may not match a future reassessment.
Why this is unusual for a smartwatch
iFixit says many watches it evaluates score 3 or 4 out of 10. That comparison reflects the repair assessor’s own reviews, not a representative survey of every smartwatch. The practical difference is that the Pixel Watch 4 has published instructions and identifiable service parts for two of the failures most likely to end a wearable’s useful life: a worn battery and a damaged screen.

Can you replace a Pixel Watch 4 battery?
Yes. Google documents a battery-replacement flow for each size, but the parts are not interchangeable by default. Check the case size before ordering or authorizing service.

Google strongly recommends authorized replacement parts. Its manual warns that an aftermarket battery can affect safety, reliability or performance, and that operation within specification cannot be assured with unauthorized parts. A battery job therefore involves more than finding a cell with a similar label; the part must match the watch and be installed correctly.
Why battery access matters
Battery capacity declines with charge cycles. On a sealed wearable, that decline often turns a functioning watch into an uneconomical repair because opening the case risks permanent damage. iFixit’s finding of easy battery access and no adhesive in the battery-access path is the design change that makes a battery service realistic.

Can you replace a Pixel Watch 4 screen?
Yes, display replacement is also documented for both sizes. Google’s manuals identify a display module and show a replacement procedure. The repair is less approachable than the battery job, however.

- iFixit identifies an uncommon 1IP Torx Plus driver requirement for display work. Verify the exact Torx Plus specification before buying a tool; a visually similar driver may not fit correctly.
- iFixit considers the display likely to be expensive, which can erase the financial benefit of repair compared with replacing the watch.
- Display work involves seals and precise reassembly, so a successful power-on test does not by itself prove the watch has regained its original environmental protection.
Google’s written procedure establishes that the screen is serviceable. It does not establish a universal retail price, local parts stock or a guarantee that a self-repaired watch will meet its original water-resistance performance.

- Screw-based assembly: fasteners can be removed and replaced without destroying an adhesive bond.
- Replaceable gaskets: seals are service parts rather than components that must be cut away and improvised during reassembly.
- Accessible battery path: the battery can be reached without heating the watch open.
- No adhesive in the battery-access path: less destructive opening work reduces the risk of collateral damage.
Those choices explain the high score better than the word “repairable” alone. They reduce the number of irreversible steps, but they do not remove the need for correct tools, parts, alignment and sealing.
DIY repair or professional service?
Google’s safety guidance recommends professional assistance for device repairs, with an exception for adults who have relevant technical experience. That advice is especially important for a small, tightly packed wearable where a damaged cable, misplaced gasket or incorrect fastener can create a second fault.
DIY is most defensible when
- You are an adult with experience repairing small electronics.
- You can obtain the correct model-specific, preferably authorized parts.
- You have the specified drivers and a clean, well-lit work area.
- You accept that post-repair water resistance is not guaranteed by the sources reviewed.
Professional service is the safer choice when
- The watch is still under warranty or covered by a protection plan.
- You cannot verify the part number for your 41 mm or 45 mm model.
- The display is broken and you do not have the required 1IP Torx Plus tool.
- You need dependable sealing or do not have prior wearable-repair experience.
What happens to water resistance after repair?
The watch’s gaskets are intended to maintain protection when correctly installed. iFixit’s battery guidance emphasizes proper O-ring placement and seating. Neither the teardown nor the Google manuals guarantee that every repaired watch will retain its factory water-resistance performance, so do not treat a successful repair as proof that the device is safe for swimming or submersion.

How to arrange official Pixel Watch 4 service
Google’s service availability depends on country and warranty status. The support information lists mail-in service in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Walk-in service is listed in India, Mexico and the United States. Customers elsewhere are directed to contact Google support.
- Confirm whether the watch is 41 mm or 45 mm and note the fault.
- Check warranty or protection-plan status before opening the case or buying parts.
- Use Google’s current support flow for your country to determine mail-in, walk-in or contact-support options.
- Ask which authorized part and service route apply; availability, stock and pricing can change.
How to judge repairability against another watch
A single score is useful shorthand, but a better comparison checks the same six questions for each model:
- Are the battery and display separately replaceable?
- Does opening require heat, solvent or destructive adhesive removal?
- Are service manuals and authorized parts available?
- Does the repair require specialized tools or advanced skills?
- Is the component cost sensible compared with replacing the watch?
- Is authorized service available in the owner’s region?
On those criteria, the Pixel Watch 4’s strongest advantages are documented battery and display procedures, screw-based construction and a serviceable sealing approach. Its principal drawbacks are the specialist display driver, the likely cost of a display module and uncertainty about local parts and service access.

Why this matters beyond one watch
Smartwatch batteries wear out faster than many traditional-watch components, while cracked screens can make an otherwise capable device unusable. A design that permits those parts to be replaced can extend the period in which the watch remains useful and reduce the need to discard the entire electronics package. The benefit is conditional: repair still has to be technically sound, economically sensible and available where the owner lives.
The Bottom Line
The Pixel Watch 4 earns the “finally repairable” description because Google documents battery and display repairs and iFixit found a screw-fastened, gasketed design with accessible battery service. Treat the 9/10 score as iFixit’s provisional assessment—not a guarantee of cheap DIY work, preserved water resistance or universal local service.
