The Seiko Prospex SLA051J1 and SLA049J1 share the same core case and movement specifications, but they are not the same edition. The SLA051J1 is the charcoal-gray standard model; the SLA049J1 is the Naomi Uemura 80th Anniversary limited edition, capped at 1,200 pieces, with a distinct presentation and an additional blue silicone strap described by Seiko. Both reinterpret Seiko’s 1970 diver and were announced for availability in July 2021.

Seiko presented the SLA051J1 as an added charcoal-gray dial option within the 1970-diver reinterpretation family. The SLA049J1’s commemorative identity and limited production run are the main distinctions; the underlying published technical package is shared. Seiko’s 2021 European announcement gives the original recommended prices and edition context.
Shared movement and case specifications
Both models use Seiko’s automatic caliber 8L35, which can also be wound manually. Seiko lists a rate of +15/-10 seconds per day, approximately 50 hours of power reserve, 26 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, stop-seconds, and a date display. Those are published specifications, not a guarantee of an individual watch’s measured performance.

Price, availability, and what to check
Prices need market and date context. Seiko’s 2021 European announcement recommended EUR 3,000 for the SLA051J1 and EUR 3,200 for the SLA049J1. Seiko’s localized product pages display different amounts: PLN 14,100 on the Polish SLA051J1 page and EUR 3,300 on the Spanish SLA049J1 page. These regional page amounts are not directly comparable, and neither should be treated as a universal or guaranteed current selling price. Seiko said both models became available in July 2021; current store inventory and resale values are not established here.

- Edition and dial: decide whether the limited Naomi Uemura anniversary identity or the charcoal-gray standard dial is the better match.
- Fit: account for the 44.0 mm diameter, 49.3 mm lug-to-lug length, and 13.0 mm thickness; case dimensions alone cannot establish how a watch will wear on a particular wrist.
- Strap configuration: confirm exactly what is included with the watch. The 20 mm lug width is a useful replacement-strap search dimension, but does not guarantee the strap’s end fit or clasp compatibility.
- Purchase details: check the seller’s reputation, warranty terms, condition, and locally applicable price rather than relying on an old recommended price or edition count as proof of a specific watch’s authenticity.
