Its watches combined British storytelling with Swiss production, including Swiss-made cases and movements made in Lugano. The brand is now a discontinued-watch subject: its principal companies entered administration or were dissolved, so any purchase today is generally a secondary-market transaction.
What was TRIBUS?
TRIBUS launched in September 2020 as an independent brand built around Liverpool identity, British design language and Swiss watchmaking. Monochrome described it as “a new British start-up watch brand with Liverpool roots and Swiss-engineered precision” (2020). The company’s connection to Christopher Ward was through the Ward family: Jake, Jonny and James Ward founded TRIBUS, drawing on their family’s experience in the watch industry.
The positioning was deliberately hybrid. The brand presented itself as British and Liverpool-based, while reporting identified Swiss-made cases and chronometer-certified movements manufactured in Lugano, Switzerland. That distinction matters: “British” described the brand’s identity and story, not a claim that every watch component was manufactured in Britain.
The Liverpool FC partnership
Football was central to TRIBUS’s launch rather than a minor licensing exercise. WatchPro reported that TRIBUS became Liverpool FC’s Official Wristwatch Partner in a multi-million-pound, five-year agreement (2020). The first licensed product was the TRI-08 Liverpool FC Premier League Champions Special Edition.

Europa Star described the deal as a seven-figure partnership promoted to Liverpool’s “800 million supporters worldwide” (2020). That figure was a contemporary promotional audience claim, not an independently audited current count of Liverpool supporters.
Which watches were in the launch range?
Launch coverage described a four-watch core collection with “retro-temporary” styling: mid-century dress-watch influences combined with contemporary functions. Reported complications included small seconds, a power reserve and a GMT. Alongside those core models, TRIBUS announced story-led limited editions.

TRI-01 Small Second COSC: the best-documented core model
WatchPro called the TRI-01 “the very first attempt at a core collection watch from fledgling British watch brand TRIBUS” in its 2021 review. It used a 41 mm case and was offered with several dial colours: yellow, salmon, black, teal and cream.

These were UK launch-era prices reported in WatchPro’s 2021 review, not current resale values or evidence of surviving retail stock. COSC refers to certification by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute; the designation supports the model’s chronometer positioning but does not establish present-day service condition for a used example.

Why did TRIBUS disappear?
Official Companies House records provide the clearest chronology. TRIBUS (WATCHMAKERS) LIMITED entered administration on 9 November 2021. The company later moved from administration toward dissolution, with a final Gazette dissolution filing dated 16 February 2024. A related company, TRIBUS (HOROLOGISTS) LIMITED, was dissolved on 12 September 2023.
A 2024 Esquire retrospective said TRIBUS had dissolved by 2022 and linked the failure context to the end of the Liverpool partnership, the Covid period and an unfocused offering. That retrospective should be read alongside, rather than instead of, the Companies House filings: the filings establish the companies’ legal status and dates, while the article offers journalistic context for the collapse.

Are TRIBUS watches still available?
There is no verified evidence here of a functioning TRIBUS shop, current authorised stock, warranty servicing or an active official sales channel. In practical terms, buyers should treat TRIBUS as a discontinued brand and evaluate individual listings rather than assuming new retail availability.
Checks to make before buying
- Seller identity: establish who is actually selling the watch and whether the seller accepts returns.
- Condition: request clear photographs of the case, crystal, dial, hands, crown, clasp and case back.
- Provenance: ask for the original receipt, papers, box or other evidence tying the watch to a legitimate source.
- Movement history: confirm whether the movement has been serviced and obtain the date and invoice if available.
- Authenticity: compare the reference, markings and construction with documented TRIBUS examples; do not assume a Liverpool-themed watch is genuine simply because it carries club imagery.
- After-sales support: establish who would inspect or repair the watch if it develops a fault, since the original companies are dissolved.
This does not mean every secondary-market listing is unsafe. It means the dissolved corporate structure removes the normal manufacturer-backed safeguards, so provenance and service evidence become especially important.

What TRIBUS represented
TRIBUS’s appeal came from the combination of a recognisable Liverpool story, a high-profile football partnership and Swiss-made mechanical-watch credentials. Its range also tried to serve different buyers: the TRI-01 offered a relatively straightforward small-seconds design, while the GMT and power-reserve models added practical complications and the TRI-08 and TRI-05 editions targeted collectors interested in football or military history.
The brand’s short life also explains why surviving watches should be approached as discontinued pieces with a specific backstory, not as products from an operating manufacturer. The TRI-01’s documented £1,295–£1,395 UK launch range is useful for identifying the model and understanding its original market position; it is not a reliable guide to what an individual example is worth today.
