Which modern Rolex watches are called “Root Beer”?
Rolex introduced the brown-and-black Cerachrom bezel on two GMT-Master II variants in 2018: the two-tone 126711CHNR and full-gold 126715CHNR. The nickname connects the watches to vintage brown-and-gold GMT-Master models, but the modern references are not exact reproductions. Rolex’s specifications describe both watches as 40 mm, with 100-metre water resistance and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. The 126711CHNR’s figures above come from Fratello’s 2018 article; the 126715CHNR’s are from Rolex’s undated brochure. The cited sources establish those specifications, not current catalogue status, price or availability.

How do the materials change the look?
126711CHNR: steel balanced with Everose
The 126711CHNR mixes Oystersteel with Everose gold across the case and Oyster bracelet. The contrast breaks up the gold visually: it keeps gold prominent while giving the watch a visibly two-tone character.
126715CHNR: Everose from case to bracelet
On the 126715CHNR, the case and bracelet are 18 ct Everose gold. That continuous precious-metal finish makes it the more overtly gold option. Both watches share the brown-and-black bezel, so the material choice—not the bezel or GMT platform—is the main visual distinction.

Which looks more formal or conspicuous depends on the wearer and setting; the material descriptions establish the visual contrast, not how either watch feels on a particular wrist. The cited sources do not provide comparable weight or comfort measurements.
How does the GMT function work?
The extra triangle-tipped hand indicates a second time zone against the bezel’s 24-hour scale. Rolex describes it this way: “The GMT-Master II features an additional, triangle-tipped hand. This indicates a second time zone on the 24-hour graduated rotatable bezel.” Rolex GMT-Master II features
