Vintage Rolex Sky-Rocket auction results range from hundreds of dollars to a much higher, unconfirmed estimate—but none establishes what a particular watch is worth today. Recorded sales include $861 for a working example in 2023, $475 for another in 2022, and £550 for a non-running watch in 2021. A 2026 estimate of £1,200–£1,500 applied to a case and movement, not a documented sale. If you are asking, “How much is my vintage Rolex Sky-Rocket worth?”, the answer depends on the exact watch, its condition and originality, and the terms and date of any comparable sale.
What Sky-Rocket auction records can—and cannot—tell you
The available results show that Sky-Rockets have sold for hundreds of dollars or pounds in several auctions. They are not directly comparable: the watches differed in condition, case details, sale date, currency, and auction terms. A sale result is evidence of what one lot achieved in one setting, not a guaranteed value for another watch.
| Source and date | Lot described | Published figure | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Waddington’s, July 2023 | Working, circa-1940s, 29 mm example | $861 | Realized price; the listing says it includes buyer’s premium. Waddington’s lot |
| Heritage Auctions, November 16, 2022 | Circa-1940s, 29 mm gold-capped stainless-steel example with a fair dial | $475 | Realized price. The lot description says the movement ran and set but accuracy was not guaranteed. Heritage lot |
| Dawsons Auctions, August 2021 | 29 mm stainless-steel example with dial tarnish; fully wound but not running | £550 | Realized price. Dawsons lot |
| Waddington’s, 2018 | Circa-1941, 29 mm example in a gold-filled and steel case | $408 | Realized price. Waddington’s lot |
| Cadmore Auctions, scheduled June 8, 2026 | 28 mm case and movement, described as hand-wind and working with no guarantees | £1,200–£1,500 | Estimate only; the inspected listing did not show a realized price. Cadmore lot |
Keep three auction figures distinct when assessing a watch: an estimate is the auction house’s pre-sale guide, a hammer price is the winning bid before applicable charges, and the final amount paid may include a buyer’s premium. The published $861 Waddington’s result explicitly includes that premium; the figures above should not otherwise be treated as though they all represent the same kind of total.
Why one Sky-Rocket may be worth more than another
The auction records do not supply a reliable formula for adding or subtracting value for any single feature. They do show why a useful comparison needs more than the model name and a photograph.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Running condition: distinguish a watch that runs from one that is wound but not running. Running does not prove accurate timekeeping; Heritage said its example ran and set, while noting that accuracy was not guaranteed and recommending service for daily use and accuracy.
- Dial and hands: record visible tarnish, dial condition, and whether the hands appear consistent with the watch. Heritage described a fair dial; Dawsons noted dial tarnish. Do not assume cosmetic similarity means equal condition.
- Case: note the material, diameter, and wear. Auction examples include 28–29 mm cases, and cited lots include stainless steel, gold-capped stainless steel, and gold-filled-and-steel construction.
- Movement and completeness: identify the movement and confirm whether the lot is a complete watch or only a case and movement. A partial lot is not a like-for-like comparison with a complete wristwatch.
- Originality, service, and provenance: document replaced or uncertain parts, service records, and any credible ownership history. The auction figures do not quantify a price adjustment for these factors, so treat them as appraisal evidence rather than a mechanical valuation formula.
- Sale terms and setting: compare the date, currency, auction venue, estimate, hammer price, and fees before drawing conclusions from a result.
What the name and movement tell you
The Sky-Rocket is generally described in the cited auction records and specialist collector research as a small watch from the 1940s. Auction examples measure 28–29 mm; a collector account gives an approximate case size of 29.5 mm. Those descriptions are useful context, but they do not establish a production total or how many examples survive.
Heritage identified the movement in its 2022 example as a 17-jewel Tudor cal. 59/FHF cal. 30 manual-wind movement, and Waddington’s identified a cal. 59. Rolex Forums collector Dr.Smellody wrote: “The Rolex Sky-Rocket is not powered by the regular Aegler/Rolex movement as used in the other manual wind movements of the time, but instead is powered by the Caliber 59.” That is a collector’s statement, not an official Rolex specification. The specialist collector account also discusses Rolex-marketed, Tudor-marketed, and unbranded examples, as well as several dial and case variants; it is not a Rolex archive or independent production census. Was the Sky-Rocket a military-issued watch?
Some collector research attributes marketing of the Sky-Rocket to Canadian service airmen, but that does not establish that every example was issued to military personnel. A 2025 auction description of a related watch said it was made for the Canadian Royal Air Force but was not issued to the military. Treat “military watch” as a claim about a specific watch only when its provenance or reliable documentation supports it; marketing association alone is not proof of issue.
How to get a defensible estimate for your watch
- Document the actual watch: photograph the dial, case front and back, movement if it can be inspected safely, and any markings. Record measured diameter and case material rather than relying on a seller’s label.
- Describe function precisely: note whether it winds, runs, sets, and keeps time over a measured period. Do not represent “running” as proof of accuracy or recent service.
- Check completeness and originality: list missing parts, replaced or uncertain components, and available service or ownership records. Avoid opening the case if you do not know how to do so without damage.
- Choose genuinely comparable sales: prioritize complete Sky-Rocket watches with similar case material, condition, movement status, and configuration. Keep estimates separate from realized results, and account for sale date, currency, and fees.
- Ask a qualified specialist when the stakes warrant it: an independent watchmaker experienced with vintage watches can assess operation and condition; an auction specialist or vintage-watch appraiser can advise on a sale estimate. A photograph alone cannot establish authenticity, originality, or mechanical condition.
Strap fit: measure before ordering
Collector research places the lugs slightly above 15 mm and suggests pigskin may have been an original strap, while allowing that variants may exist. That is not enough to assume a modern 16 mm strap will fit every example. Measure the lug width on the particular watch and confirm the strap’s actual width and fit before buying.
