The Vulcain Y65 Monopusher Pulsation Chronograph stands out for its single-pusher layout, a dial marked “Gradué Pour 30 Pulsations,” and a scarce chronograph movement whose technical details remain little documented. The best published account is a 2023 watch-journalism feature, not a factory archive or independent movement inspection, so its historical and mechanical claims should be read with that limitation in mind.
What makes the Vulcain Y65 distinctive?
The Y65 combines a monopusher chronograph with a pulsation scale. A single pusher controls the chronograph functions, while the dial inscription “Gradué Pour 30 Pulsations” identifies the scale as intended for a 30-pulse reading. The feature does not establish a complete operating specification for the scale or movement, so it is best understood from the watch’s layout rather than from assumptions about timing procedure.
In a Fratello feature published September 14, 2023, contributor Tomas Rosputinsky described his example’s dial as shifting in appearance among black, blue, and steel gray as the light changes. He also noted wear and patina, including degraded printing around the numeral at three o’clock. The effect is part of the character of this individual vintage watch, but the article’s interpretation of how the dial printing was made is explicitly speculative. Read Rosputinsky’s account of the Vulcain Y65.
What is known about the Y65 movement?
The 2023 feature describes the Y65 as a rare, column-wheel chronograph caliber based on Vulcain’s 65 MS. It says the 65 MS was an in-house, 10.5-ligne movement with central seconds, developed in the 1930s. The 10.5-ligne measurement is attributed to the 65 MS in that feature; it is not a verified dimension for every Y65 configuration.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The source does not establish the Y65’s beat rate, jewel count, power reserve, precise production dates, or a detailed operating specification. Those figures should not be inferred from the description of the base movement. Rosputinsky reports asking Sébastien Chaulmontet, identified in the article as Sellita’s head of innovation and marketing, about the unusual caliber. Chaulmontet’s reported reaction was: “Wonderful,” and “A joyful little movement. I hunted mine for many years.” That comment conveys the movement’s appeal to an enthusiast, not a technical assessment.
Case and fit: details apply to the author’s example
Rosputinsky’s watch has a gold case, an oval pusher, and a reported 19 mm lug spacing. These are observations about his example, not confirmed specifications for every watch bearing the Y65 name. If you are checking strap compatibility, measure the distance between the lugs on the actual watch before buying a 19 mm watch strap; the published measurement alone does not guarantee a fit.

Was the Vulcain Y65 a military watch?
The Fratello feature relays a historical report that Vulcain chronographs may have been selected by Uruguay’s armed forces. It also presents the possibility that the small movement enabled elegant, counterless chronographs that might have appealed to women. These are reported contextual claims, not proof that Rosputinsky’s watch—or any particular Y65—was military-issued. No provenance for the featured example is established.
