The Fondation Haute Horlogerie (FHH), reviewing the year in January 2026, counted roughly two dozen brands celebrating birthdays from 10 to 290 years, alongside a dozen watches marking multi-decade milestones. The important story was not simply nostalgic reissues: brands used anniversaries to revive signatures, introduce new families, advance complications and stage collector events.
Why 2025 produced so many milestone watches
The FHH described 2025 as “rich in anniversaries, jubilees and other milestones.” Its review found brands treating a birthday as both an emotional link to their past and a platform for future-facing innovation. That approach explains the year’s range: some launches emphasized founder-era displays or familiar collections, while others used major anniversaries to unveil demanding new mechanisms.
Anniversary numbers also varied dramatically. Ten-year and 20-year celebrations gave younger maisons a reason to define their identity; 150-, 165-, 250-, 270- and 290-year milestones carried a different burden of historical legitimacy. In both cases, the anniversary was a framework for a product story rather than a substitute for one.
The major 2025 anniversaries and what they signaled
| Brand and milestone | What the anniversary represented | Technical or design emphasis | Scarcity noted by the brand or FHH |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blancpain — 290 years | One of the year’s largest historical milestones | Grande Double Sonnerie, using a high-complication format to mark the occasion | Edition size not stated |
| Vacheron Constantin — 270 years | A major maison anniversary | Solaria with 41 functions | Edition size not stated |
| Breguet — 250 years | Quarter-millennium heritage claim | Expérimentale 10 Hz tourbillon | Edition size not stated |
| Chopard — 165 years | Long-running manufacture history | L.U.C Grand Strike | Edition size not stated |
| Audemars Piguet — 150 years | Sesquicentennial milestone | Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked | Edition size not stated |
| Roger Dubuis — 30 years | A younger brand’s founder-led identity | Biretrograde displays and an Excalibur grande complication combining a perpetual calendar, minute repeater and flying tourbillon | Excalibur grande complication limited to eight pieces |
| Gerald Charles — 25 years | Quarter-century celebration | Anniversary program details were not stated in the FHH summary | Not stated |
| Hublot — 20 years of Big Bang | A modern collection milestone | Big Bang anniversary editions | Edition sizes not stated |
| MB&F — 20 years | Two decades of independent, unconventional design | Collector-focused anniversary program | Raffle of 20 pieces |
| Czapek Genève — 10 years | A decade for the revived independent maison | Anniversary treatment details were not stated in the FHH summary | Not stated |
The table shows two distinct strategies. The oldest maisons attached their anniversaries to technically formidable complications, while younger brands leaned on recognizable design languages, limited runs and direct collector engagement. Neither approach automatically indicates commercial success; the available reporting establishes the launches and programs, not their sales results.

Heritage reissue or genuinely new technology?
In 2025, the answer was often both. Heritage supplied the visual or historical reference, but the watch still had to provide a reason to exist beyond a commemorative logo.
When the past supplied the display
Roger Dubuis said its first anniversary releases revived founder Roger Dubuis’s signature biretrograde display. That is a direct historical reference, yet the program also escalated into a new Excalibur grande complication with three demanding functions: perpetual calendar, minute repeater and flying tourbillon.
When the milestone was an engineering statement
Blancpain’s Grande Double Sonnerie, Vacheron Constantin’s 41-function Solaria, Breguet’s 10 Hz tourbillon, Chopard’s L.U.C Grand Strike and Audemars Piguet’s openworked Royal Oak perpetual calendar all used mechanism, architecture or acoustic complication as the anniversary’s main proof point. These watches communicate longevity through what they do, not merely through their dates of origin.
When the change was practical rather than mechanical
Rolex’s 2025 releases show another form of innovation: new materials, colors, bracelets and case configurations applied to both an entirely new family and established lines. For many buyers, ceramic, lacquer, gold execution and dial design affect daily wear more directly than a rare complication.

Watches and Wonders Geneva: the industry’s central stage
The Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation scheduled 60 brands for the 1–7 April 2025 edition, with public access from 5–7 April. The fair was positioned as more than a trade presentation: its program included guided tours, expert sessions, watchmaking training activities, a city-center program and an innovation LAB devoted to future technologies, training and professions.
The often-cited attendance figure of 49,000 belongs to the 2024 edition, not to 2025. It is therefore useful context for the fair’s scale, but it should not be presented as a 2025 result. The format itself illustrates the industry’s direction: product discovery, education and public participation were being combined in one event.

Rolex: a new family alongside familiar updates
Rolex used 1 April 2025 to launch the Land-Dweller, a genuinely new line in the brand’s range. At the same time, it refreshed established families rather than treating the anniversary-style news cycle as a single-model event.
- A white-gold GMT-Master II with a ceramic dial.
- Pastel Oyster Perpetual dials.
- A yellow-gold bracelet for the 1908.
- A red ombré Datejust 31.
- Additional new dial combinations across the collection.
This mix matters because it separates product types that are often lumped together. The Land-Dweller is a new-family launch; the GMT-Master II, Oyster Perpetual, 1908 and Datejust changes are variants or refinements of known collections. Rolex’s own launch language, “Reinventing the present lays foundations for the future,” captures that balance of continuity and change.

Roger Dubuis at 30: signature design with extreme scarcity
Roger Dubuis made its 30th anniversary a design statement rather than a simple retrospective. The brand connected its first releases to the founder’s biretrograde indication, then presented an Excalibur grande complication combining a perpetual calendar, minute repeater and flying tourbillon. Only eight pieces were planned for that configuration, making scarcity part of the product’s identity as well as its collecting appeal.
This is the clearest example of a younger maison using a recognizable display to establish continuity while reserving its most technically ambitious expression for a very small edition.
How to evaluate a 2025 milestone watch
- Identify the historical reference. Is the watch marking a founding date, a collection anniversary, a founder’s design or a specific past model?
- Separate a new family from a variant. A new line such as Land-Dweller has a different strategic significance from a new dial or material on an existing model.
- Look for substantive technical change. Complications, movement architecture, operating frequency, materials and display mechanisms are stronger evidence of innovation than anniversary text alone.
- Check the edition size. Some 2025 programs disclosed precise scarcity, such as Roger Dubuis’s eight-piece Excalibur and MB&F’s 20-piece raffle; other sizes were not stated in the published summaries.
- Consider how collectors were invited in. Fairs, guided tours, training, exhibitions, raffles and city programs show whether the anniversary was designed as a community event as well as a product launch.
- Verify availability locally. Product allocation and release timing can differ by country and retailer, so a 2025 announcement does not guarantee current stock.
What the 2025 pattern means for watch buyers and enthusiasts
The year’s releases suggest that anniversary watches are no longer a single category. At one end are historically anchored complications whose value proposition is technical and archival. At the other are colorful, material-led or bracelet-led updates that make a familiar watch feel current. Between them sit limited editions that use a signature display, case shape or collection code to create continuity.
For readers deciding what deserves attention, the most useful question is not “Is it an anniversary model?” but “What changed, and why does the change matter?” In 2025, the strongest answers combined a verifiable historical connection with a new mechanism, material, configuration or way for collectors to engage with the brand.
