Samsung wearable model SM-R390 received FCC certification in September 2023 under FCC ID ZCASMR390. The filing did not name the product Galaxy Fit3 or provide a complete specification sheet, but its Bluetooth Low Energy testing and rectangular schematics pointed to a successor to the Galaxy Fit2. Later Bluetooth SIG evidence identified SM-R390 as the Galaxy Fit3, and Samsung released the band in February 2024, with timing varying by market.
What the FCC certification actually confirmed
The certification record described SM-R390 only as a Samsung wearable device. A certification database records the approval on September 26, 2023, while the associated Bluetooth Low Energy test report was issued September 11, 2023. That report lists hardware revision 1.0 and software version R390XXU0AWHG. The FCC-related record is available at device.report, and the test report is available at fcc.report.
The filing therefore established a real Samsung wearable undergoing radio-compliance testing, not a retail announcement. FCC approval is a regulatory milestone for the tested radio equipment; it does not establish a price, launch date, final name, or every feature.
Evidence visible in the schematics
- A wider, rectangular body rather than the narrow shape associated with the Galaxy Fit2.
- Rear optical heart-rate hardware.
- Two rear charging contacts, consistent with spring-pin or pogo-pin charging.
- A side button or control area.
- A conventional removable-band arrangement.
The drawings offered a useful outline, but they were not proof of the final industrial design, display dimensions, charger design, or battery capacity.

Why the device was linked to the Galaxy Fit3
Contemporary reports inferred a Fit-series successor from the SM-R390 model number, the wearable classification, and the shape shown in the filing. The model did not fit Samsung’s Galaxy Watch naming pattern. However, the initial FCC material itself did not call it “Galaxy Fit3.” That retail identity was reinforced later when a Bluetooth SIG listing associated SM-R390 with the Galaxy Fit3 name and Bluetooth 5.3. The later Bluetooth report is covered by Android Authority.
How the design changed from Galaxy Fit2
The Galaxy Fit2 launched in 2020 with a slim, narrow-band format. FCC drawings for SM-R390 suggested a squarer, broader body, and leaked renders later showed a larger display in that general direction. Those renders were leak material, not Samsung confirmation; contemporary coverage can be found at Android Headlines and Android Central.

Samsung’s finished product used an aluminum body and a 1.6-inch AMOLED display. That screen size came from Samsung’s final specifications, not the FCC filing.

What Samsung ultimately confirmed
Samsung announced the Galaxy Fit3 with sleep and health tracking, more than 100 workout modes or exercise-tracking support depending on regional wording, fall detection, SOS-related functions, notifications and media controls when paired with a phone. The announcement is documented at Samsung Newsroom Philippines.
The advertised “up to 13 days” is not a universal runtime guarantee. Samsung describes an internal typical-use scenario involving notifications, text checks, time checks, workouts and a paired Galaxy smartphone, with Always-On Display disabled. Frequent workouts, high brightness, continuous sensing, many notifications or Always-On Display can reduce runtime substantially.

Phone compatibility and connected functions
The Fit3 is Android-only; Samsung does not support iPhone pairing. When connected to a compatible Android phone, it can handle notifications, media controls, mode synchronization, fall detection and emergency-related functions. Regional phone requirements and feature availability can vary.

The FCC material confirmed Bluetooth-related testing but did not prove the presence or absence of GPS, NFC or cellular radios. Samsung’s final listed sensor set does not include a GPS sensor, and its specifications do not list NFC or cellular connectivity. The safest description is that the Fit3 is a Bluetooth-connected fitness band that appears to rely on a paired phone for connected functions, including location-assisted workouts. A phone supplying location data is not the same as built-in GPS in the band.

It also lacks several Galaxy Watch-level capabilities:
- No Wear OS app ecosystem.
- No ECG.
- No body-composition measurement.
- No listed standalone GPS.
- No cellular calling service.
Heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep and stress measurements should be treated as wellness features, not medical diagnoses.
Release timing and regional availability
Samsung announced the Galaxy Fit3 on February 7, 2024. Samsung materials cite availability beginning February 23 in one announcement, while another regional announcement records February 22. The product therefore launched in February 2024, with the exact date depending on market; see Samsung Japan for regional context. Colors, stock, warranty terms, prices and sales channels also vary by country. An FCC approval should never be read as proof that retail stock was immediately available.
Galaxy Fit3 versus a Galaxy Watch
| Choose the Fit3 when you prioritize | Choose a Galaxy Watch or another full smartwatch when you need |
|---|---|
| Light weight, simple notifications and long stated battery life | A broader app platform and richer smartwatch functions |
| Basic activity, sleep, heart-rate, stress and blood-oxygen tracking | ECG, body-composition analysis or more advanced health hardware |
| Phone-connected workouts and emergency features | Standalone location, cellular service or more independent operation |
| A deliberately limited fitness band rather than a watch | Wear OS applications and a more capable fitness computer |
The Fit3 is a sensible match for Android users who want a lightweight tracker and do not need a smartwatch platform. It is a poor match for iPhone owners, serious runners or cyclists who require built-in GPS, and anyone expecting Galaxy Watch health or app features in a smaller body. The FCC filing was valuable but narrow. It accurately exposed SM-R390, its BLE testing and a new rectangular hardware outline with heart-rate hardware and charging contacts. It did not independently reveal the Galaxy Fit3 name, 1.6-inch display, 208mAh battery, 13-day estimate, GPS status or launch date. Later Bluetooth evidence and Samsung’s final announcement filled in those gaps. In retrospect, the filing identified the direction of Samsung’s next fitness band without serving as its complete specification sheet.
