For a watch purchase in Paris, begin with the brand’s official boutique directory or retailer locator, then contact the exact store to confirm it carries your model. Cartier lists several Paris boutiques, Rolex’s locator distinguishes official retailers from service centres and Certified Pre-Owned listings, and the city’s visitor office highlights rue de la Paix, rue Royale and Place Vendôme as useful shopping areas. Store stock, prices, hours and tax-free participation must be confirmed directly.
Start with official brand directories
Directories are the most reliable way to check whether a shop is a brand boutique or an authorized seller. A prominent address or a watch in a window does not establish a retailer’s status.
Cartier boutiques
Cartier’s official Paris directory lists eight boutiques, including locations at 23 place Vendôme, 17 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 51 rue François 1er and Galeries Lafayette at 40 boulevard Haussmann. It also lists a rue de la Paix boutique. The directory’s addresses, hours and services can change, so check the listing for the store you plan to visit.
Rolex retailers and other listings
Use the Rolex France store locator and select Paris. It identifies different listing types, including Official Rolex Retailers, service centres and Certified Pre-Owned listings; these labels are not interchangeable. For example, the Lassaussois retailer page identifies that seller as an Official Rolex Retailer and states that new Rolex watches purchased there come with a five-year international guarantee. That statement applies to purchases from the named retailer as described on its page, not automatically to pre-owned watches or other sellers.

Explore Paris’s central watch-shopping streets
The Paris visitor office points to rue de la Paix, rue Royale and Place Vendôme as areas for leading watch brands. They offer a practical starting point for walking between shops, but being on one of these streets does not prove a seller’s authorization or the availability of a particular watch. Verify a shop through the relevant brand directory. The visitor guide also mentions a contemporary-watch shop on rue des Rosiers, but its current status has not been confirmed; check before making it a destination.

What to confirm before you visit or pay
The directories and visitor guide do not provide live stock, prices, waitlists, discounts or the terms for every seller. Contact the specific store and ask about the exact reference you want, its current price and availability, whether an appointment is needed, and the store’s hours. Before paying, confirm whether the watch is new or pre-owned, the warranty and service arrangements, and the return terms. If tax-free shopping may apply, ask whether that shop participates and how it handles the refund.
- Exact watch: Give the store the model name or reference; a brand’s general presence in Paris does not mean a particular model is in stock.
- Seller status: Check the brand’s own locator and note whether the listing is a boutique, authorized retailer, service centre or Certified Pre-Owned seller.
- Purchase terms: Get the current price, warranty, service support and return conditions from the seller for the specific watch.
- Visit details: Recheck hours, contact details and any appointment requirements with the store before setting out.
Tax-free shopping: eligibility, threshold and validation
French customs’ PABLO guidance, updated June 4, 2026, says a traveler must habitually reside outside the EU, be at least 16 and be visiting France for less than six months to qualify. Purchases including tax must total more than €100 at the same store on the same day. The seller must offer tax-free sales and issue the PABLO export sales slip; customs says not all sellers participate.

- Ask before purchase. Check that the store offers tax-free sales, can issue the PABLO slip and explain its refund method. Do not assume a qualifying watch purchase automatically qualifies if the seller does not participate.
- Keep the goods and paperwork available. When leaving the EU, present the goods and PABLO slip for customs validation at the departure point, before checking baggage, and within the applicable time limit. Follow the current instructions for that departure point.
- Understand who refunds the VAT. Customs validation supports the seller’s VAT exemption; the merchant, not customs, refunds the traveler. The amount and method should be confirmed with the seller rather than assumed.
A French tax-free refund is separate from any import declaration, customs duty or tax obligations in your home country; the applicable rules depend on that destination.
