The 2023 steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is reference 126500LN, replacing the previous 116500LN generation. The clearest documented change is its movement: calibre 4131 takes the place of calibre 4130. The new watch retains the familiar 40 mm Oystersteel case, black Cerachrom tachymetric bezel and Oyster bracelet; Rolex’s current specifications also list 100 m water resistance and about 72 hours of power reserve.

Rolex’s current US product page for reference 126500LN is the source for the new model’s listed specifications and displayed price. Rolex’s 2023 launch material and Daytona brochure document the calibre 4131 features.
What changed: calibre 4131 replaces calibre 4130
The headline generational update is mechanical. The 126500LN uses calibre 4131, while the previous 116500LN generation used calibre 4130. Rolex’s 2023 press material says: “The new 4131 movement incorporates the Chronergy escapement, the Paraflex shock absorbers and a new oscillating weight with optimized ball bearing.” The launch material also identifies Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration and a cut-out oscillating weight.
These are documented differences in movement generation and architecture. They do not, by themselves, establish a measured improvement in everyday accuracy, durability, service cost or performance over calibre 4130. Rolex’s current 126500LN page specifies accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing; that figure is for the current model, not a direct comparative test against the 116500LN.

What the movement does
Calibre 4131 powers a self-winding mechanical chronograph. On the dial, Rolex lists a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock and small seconds at 6 o’clock. The chronograph works with the tachymetric scale on the bezel to read average speed.
What the 2023 watch retains
The 126500LN remains a 40 mm steel Daytona with a black ceramic tachymeter bezel and Oyster bracelet. Rolex’s current specifications call the case material Oystersteel and list water resistance to 100 metres (330 feet), with an approximately 72-hour power reserve. These are 126500LN specifications; the materials cited here do not offer a complete official side-by-side specification sheet for the 116500LN.

Bezel and chronograph use
The black Cerachrom bezel carries a tachymetric scale. Rolex describes using the scale with the chronograph to read average speed. The brand describes the ceramic bezel as corrosion resistant and virtually scratchproof. Those material claims describe the bezel’s properties, not a promise that the entire watch cannot be scratched or damaged.
Is the 2023 Daytona still 40 mm?
Yes. Rolex lists the 126500LN case diameter as 40 mm. Its current product page also lists 100 m water resistance. These are the official specifications for the 2023 reference; the sources cited here do not establish a full dimensional comparison with every production year of the 116500LN.

Appearance and the limits of a precise comparison
The references are visually related, and the 2023 watch retains the black Cerachrom bezel and Oyster bracelet. However, the official sources cited here do not provide a complete predecessor specification sheet or a verified, detailed dial-by-dial and case-by-case comparison. Exact claims about subtle case proportions, dial markings, clasp changes, weight or year-to-year variation in 116500LN production should not be treated as established by these sources.
