This shortlist covers five entries—including the SKX007 and SKX009 as one pair—and explains what to check before buying.
What “easy to buy” means for discontinued Seiko watches
Marketplace listings show that examples are offered for sale; they do not guarantee steady stock, authenticity, fair pricing, or shipping to your location. Listings also show asking prices, not completed-sale prices. Treat availability and price as specific to the seller and watch in front of you, not as a fixed market value.
Chrono24 Magazine reported the production periods and specifications below. Those dates are the publication’s reported ranges, not independently located Seiko discontinuation notices. The two listing counts cited here are snapshots from dynamic marketplace pages accessed in 2026, not sales figures.
Five discontinued Seiko models to look for
1. Seiko Spirit SARB033: a compact, understated dress watch
Chrono24 Magazine reports that the Japan Domestic Market SARB033 was produced from 2007 to 2018. It has a 38 mm steel case, a glossy black dial, faceted indices, and polished case edges. Its automatic 6R15 movement runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has an approximately 50-hour power reserve; the original water-resistance specification is 100 m.

The “Baby Grand Seiko” nickname is informal, not a Seiko product-family name. Chrono24’s SARB033 reference-results page showed 24 listings when checked in 2026, but that count can change and says nothing about condition or completed sales. Check the exact reference, originality, service history, seller location, and condition before judging an asking price.
2. Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 300 SBDX001: a substantial professional diver
Chrono24 Magazine reports production from 2000 to 2015. The SBDX001 has a roughly 44 mm case, approximately 14.5 mm thick, a monobloc construction, and an original water-resistance specification of 300 m. Its automatic 8L35 movement has an approximately 50-hour power reserve.

The monobloc design affects servicing: the cited roundup says the movement is accessed through the dial. That makes documented service work especially useful when comparing examples. Consider the watch’s size and service history alongside its diver credentials; a “rare diver” label alone does not establish that a particular example is a sound purchase.
3. Seiko 6105-8110: the vintage “Captain Willard”
Chrono24 Magazine reports that the 6105-8110 was made from 1970 to 1977. Its 44 mm asymmetrical case places the crown at 4 o’clock, and the original model specification was 150 m water resistance. The automatic 6105B movement does not have manual winding or stop seconds.

The “Captain Willard” nickname comes from Martin Sheen’s character in the 1979 film Apocalypse Now. Vintage examples need close scrutiny: check originality, service history, case and dial condition, and whether water resistance has been tested recently. An original specification is not a guarantee that an aged watch remains water-resistant.
The SLA033, a 2019 limited tribute produced in 2,500 units, is a separate modern watch inspired by the 6105-8110—not the vintage reference itself.

4. Seiko 6138-0040: the “Bullhead” chronograph
Chrono24 Magazine reports production from 1973 to 1979. The nickname describes the crown and pushers positioned at 12 o’clock. This cushion-case automatic chronograph uses the 6138 movement, with two subdials and a day/date display. Its diameter is about 46 mm across the bezel, while its lug-to-lug measurement is approximately 43 mm—an unusual combination worth considering for wrist fit.
Chrono24’s 6138-0040 results page showed 24 listings when checked in 2026, including promoted listings. That is a changing listing count, not evidence of sales volume or fair value. Compare dial and component originality, chronograph function, service evidence, seller protections, and local availability; matching reference numbers do not make individual vintage watches interchangeable.

5. Seiko SKX007 and SKX009: two classic divers, counted as one entry
Chrono24 Magazine reports that both models were produced from 1996 to 2019. They share a 42 mm steel case, a crown at 4 o’clock, an original water-resistance specification of 200 m, and an automatic 7S26 movement without stop seconds. The SKX007 has a black dial and bezel; the SKX009 pairs a blue dial with a red-and-blue “Pepsi” bezel. Chrono24 connects the SKX009 with the 2013 film All Is Lost.
Marketplace results showed SKX007 offers when checked, but do not establish stable stock or a consistent price. Be precise when searching: Seiko’s current 5 Sports SKX series includes newer watches with SKX-inspired styling, which are not the discontinued SKX007 or SKX009 references. Seiko’s current US 5 Sports lineup and its June 2023 55th-anniversary announcement provide context for the modern line; use the exact original reference when comparing listings.

- Verify the reference and originality. Ask for clear photographs and confirm that the dial, hands, bezel, case, and movement are consistent with the reference. A similar appearance or nickname is not proof of identity.
- Assess condition and service. Request service records and ask what work was performed and when. For vintage divers, do not rely on the original water-resistance rating; seek current testing if water resistance matters to your use.
- Compare the full transaction. Check the seller’s location, shipping availability, return terms, and protections for your region, as well as the asking price. A listing is not a completed sale or a reliable valuation by itself.
- Match the watch to your needs. The SARB033 is the dress-watch choice; the SBDX001 is the professional diver; the 6105-8110 is a vintage diver; the 6138-0040 is a vintage chronograph; and the SKX pair offers the classic diver format. Case dimensions and service considerations differ, so choose by fit and intended use as well as looks.
