6 Best Earbuds for Noise Cancellation in 2026

Sony WF-1000XM6 is the best all-around ANC pick for most Android buyers, while AirPods Pro 3 lead for iPhone owners. Compare six options by fit, ecosystem and use.

The Sony WF-1000XM6 is the best all-around noise-cancelling earbud pick for most Android and cross-platform buyers; the Apple AirPods Pro 3 are the better choice for iPhone owners and posted the strongest average ANC result in SoundGuys’ measurements. Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro make the most sense with a compatible Galaxy phone, while Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) stand out for fit options and powerful noise cancellation. Your ear-tip seal, the noises around you and your phone matter more than a tiny gap in a lab score.

This guide is for U.S. buyers choosing in-ear earbuds in 2026. Prices and availability can change; any dated U.S. price below is identified as such.

Quick comparison

Model Best for ANC evidence Battery evidence Water rating Key caveat
Sony WF-1000XM6 Overall, Android and cross-platform use SoundGuys measured 88% average noise reduction 9 hours 41 minutes in SoundGuys testing Not stated in the cited comparison Fit and adaptive-mode behavior are personal; premium price
Apple AirPods Pro 3 iPhone users; strongest measured ANC result in the cited comparison SoundGuys measured 90% average noise reduction 8 hours 42 minutes in SoundGuys testing IP57 for earbuds, per Apple Some advanced features depend on Apple devices
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) Comfort, fit options and powerful ANC Approximately 85% average noise reduction in SoundGuys testing Up to 6 hours per Bose Not stated in the cited product information Shorter stated earbud playback than the Sony and Apple test results
Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro Compatible Samsung Galaxy phones Adaptive ANC 2.0, per Samsung; comparable independent percentage not stated Not stated in the cited product information IP57 for earbuds, per Samsung Many advanced features are unavailable on iOS and non-Samsung devices
Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 Sound quality, EQ and codec flexibility 83% average attenuation in SoundGuys testing Not stated in the cited comparison IP54, per SoundGuys Its strongest case is sound and connectivity, not class-leading ANC
Sony WF-C710N Budget ANC ANC included; comparable percentage not stated Up to 30 hours with case, per SoundGuys IPX4, per SoundGuys Less refined sound, ANC and feature set than the premium picks

SoundGuys’ percentages are results from that outlet’s test method, not universal estimates of how much noise every listener will hear. Battery figures in the table are either independent test results or manufacturer ratings, as labeled; they are not directly comparable.

What noise cancellation can—and cannot—do

Active noise cancellation (ANC) uses microphones and signal processing to create sound that counters incoming noise. It tends to work best on steady, low-frequency sounds such as aircraft rumble, train vibration and air-conditioning hum. Nearby conversation, sudden clatter, high-pitched sounds and irregular voices are harder to remove. Wind can also be troublesome if it buffets the microphones.

Ear-tip fit matters because the physical seal blocks sound before ANC does its work. A gap can weaken isolation and make even a capable noise-cancelling system seem ineffective. ANC reduces perceived environmental noise; it is not certified hearing protection for hazardous workplaces, firearms, concerts or industrial noise. Use protection rated for those conditions.

How to choose between these six

This is a category-based shortlist, not a claim that one model wins every use. The editorial priorities are ANC effectiveness (30%), fit and comfort (20%), sound quality and EQ (15%), phone integration (15%), calls (10%), and battery, durability and charging (10%). Independent measurements are identified as such; manufacturer specifications are labeled separately. Fit, noise type and platform can outweigh a small difference in a lab result.

1. Sony WF-1000XM6: best overall for most Android and cross-platform buyers

The XM6 is the most balanced pick here if you use Android, switch between devices or want a feature-rich pair without being tied to one phone brand. SoundGuys measured 88% average noise reduction and 9 hours 41 minutes of battery life in its testing. Its overall recommendation also highlights a 10-band EQ, adaptive sound control, multipoint and wireless charging. See SoundGuys’ current wireless-earbud recommendations and its XM6 and AirPods Pro 3 comparison.

For calls, SoundGuys describes beamforming, an improved bone-conduction sensor and AI noise rejection in the microphone system. Those design features do not guarantee that your voice will sound best in every setting, especially in wind or traffic. The XM6 is a strong default, but do not buy it solely for a two-point lead over the AirPods in one ANC test.

Choose it if: you want a high-performing, adaptable pair for Android or mixed-device use. Consider another pick if: iPhone-specific integration, Galaxy-only functions or a particular earbud shape is your priority. Sony’s U.S. product page is here.

2. Apple AirPods Pro 3: best for iPhone owners and strongest measured ANC

AirPods Pro 3 are the clearest choice for a buyer already invested in iPhone, Apple Watch, Siri and Apple Health. SoundGuys measured 90% average noise reduction—the strongest result among the three models compared in its published measurements—and 8 hours 42 minutes of battery life in its testing. Apple’s product page describes Transparency mode and hearing-health features including a hearing test, hearing-aid functionality and hearing protection. Availability and suitability of these features depend on region, device and software; they are not a universal substitute for professionally fitted hearing aids. See SoundGuys’ comparison and Apple’s product information.

Apple lists IP57 for the earbuds. On Android, they can still serve as Bluetooth earbuds, but advanced functionality is more limited than with Apple devices. That makes them a less compelling purchase if you do not use Apple hardware.

3. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen): best for comfort and powerful ANC

Bose’s case is fit flexibility as much as noise cancellation. The company lists Quiet and Aware modes, CustomTune personalization, multipoint, wireless charging and nine ear-tip/stability-band combinations. SoundGuys measured approximately 85% average noise reduction; Bose rates playback at up to six hours, with the case providing up to three full charges. Bose’s U.S. product page showed $299 on August 18, 2026. Check the Bose product page for current details.

The nine fit combinations give more ways to find a secure, comfortable seal than simply swapping among tip sizes. That is useful because a seal can change both comfort and perceived ANC. Bose is a sensible alternative to Sony when comfort and fit options are the deciding factors, but its six-hour rated earbud playback is a compromise for long stretches away from a charger.

Choose Bose if: you value fit choices and strong noise cancellation. Look elsewhere if: long battery life or codec breadth matters more than comfort options.

4. Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro: best for Samsung Galaxy users

Galaxy Buds4 Pro make the most sense alongside a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, where Samsung’s audio and Galaxy AI features are most accessible. Samsung lists Adaptive ANC 2.0, 24-bit/96 kHz audio and IP57 water resistance for the earbuds. Its U.S. page listed a starting price of $249.99 on August 18, 2026; the current price may differ. See Samsung’s product and compatibility details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung says iOS users receive Bluetooth audio, standard calls, ANC and Ambient Mode rather than the complete feature set. Features such as 24-bit/96 kHz audio, 360 Audio, Interpreter/Live Translate, head gestures and gaming mode are among those restricted outside compatible Samsung hardware. Confirm support for your specific Galaxy phone before paying for ecosystem features.

Choose them if: you own a compatible Galaxy device and want Samsung-specific features. Choose another pair if: you use an iPhone or want the same advanced feature set across brands.

5. Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 4: best for sound quality and connectivity features

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 is for listeners who value musical detail, EQ and modern connectivity alongside ANC. SoundGuys lists IP54 protection, Auracast, LE Audio, aptX Lossless, wireless charging and 83% average noise attenuation in its testing. Those features make it a versatile listening option, but its main appeal is sound and connection flexibility rather than the strongest noise suppression. See SoundGuys’ ANC-earbud coverage and Sennheiser’s product page.

Choose it if: sound tuning and codec support are high priorities. Choose another pick if: maximizing ANC performance is your main goal.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Sony WF-C710N: best budget ANC pick

The WF-C710N is a more balanced budget recommendation than choosing earbuds simply because the box says ANC. SoundGuys lists ANC, multipoint, touch controls, IPX4 protection and up to 30 hours of playback with the case. It lists a $119.99 U.S. MSRP. Its trade-off against the premium models is less refined sound and ANC, with fewer flagship features. See SoundGuys’ ANC recommendations and Sony’s U.S. product page.

If lowest initial cost matters more than a mainstream brand and a well-rounded feature set, SoundGuys lists the CMF Buds 2 Plus at a $69 MSRP and measured 83% average noise reduction. That is a separate budget trade-off: ecosystem support and long-term reliability evidence are less established than for the Sony options. See the same SoundGuys comparison and the CMF product page.

Which earbuds fit your phone, commute or routine?

iPhone

Start with AirPods Pro 3 if Apple integration, Transparency mode or hearing-health features matter most. Sony and Bose remain usable on iPhone, with their strengths in app controls, EQ, multipoint and fit rather than Apple-specific integration.

Samsung Galaxy

Galaxy Buds4 Pro are the ecosystem choice, provided your device supports the features you want. Their advantage narrows on non-Samsung phones because several advanced features are unavailable there.

Google Pixel and other Android phones

Pixel Buds Pro 2 are a credible Pixel-oriented alternative if Google Assistant or Gemini features and Pixel integration matter more than a place in this six-model ANC shortlist. Google lists Adaptive Audio, Silent Seal 2.0 ANC, Tensor A1 processing, up to 30 hours with the case and Gemini Live support. Some capabilities on its current page are marked as coming in September 2026; do not treat those as available before then. Check Google’s current product page for device and feature availability.

Airplane travel

Sony WF-1000XM6 is the strongest all-around travel choice here; Bose is an alternative if its fit options and comfort suit you, and AirPods Pro 3 are compelling for iPhone travelers who value Transparency mode and Apple integration. For a flight, check several practical details before buying: comfort over hours, seal stability, case size, quick charging, independent-earbud use, readable controls and a transparency setting that makes announcements easier to hear. The right fit for a short commute may not stay comfortable on a long flight.

Calls

Call performance depends on wind handling, nearby speech, traffic, beamforming, voice sensors and how aggressively processing changes your voice. SoundGuys describes Sony’s XM6 system as combining beamforming, an improved bone-conduction sensor and AI noise rejection; for Apple, it describes upgraded microphones, acoustic sealing and adaptive processing. Those descriptions explain design, not a guaranteed winner in every call environment. See the SoundGuys comparison.

Exercise

AirPods Pro 3 and Galaxy Buds4 Pro are listed as IP57 for the earbuds. Samsung explicitly says the Galaxy Buds4 Pro case is not IP57-rated. Sony WF-C710N’s IPX4 rating and Sennheiser MTW4’s IP54 rating offer different levels of protection; ratings apply under controlled conditions, not every workout scenario. None of these ratings means safe for swimming. Stability bands or fins can help keep earbuds in place, while sweat, wind and wet fingers can complicate touch controls and microphones. A tight seal can improve isolation but become uncomfortable during exercise. See Apple’s specifications and Samsung’s specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Small or difficult-to-fit ears

There is no universally best shape for small ears. Try the supplied tips and any included fins or bands, and favor a model whose shape can sit securely without pressure. Bose’s nine tip-and-band combinations and Sennheiser’s included tips and concha fins offer additional fit variables, but only a try-on can establish whether either suits you.

How to check the fit and troubleshoot ANC

  1. Try every supplied tip size; a larger tip is not automatically better if it creates pressure.
  2. Run the manufacturer’s fit test if one is available, then insert each earbud firmly without pushing it in uncomfortably.
  3. With music paused, compare ANC against low-frequency rumble, speech and traffic separately.
  4. Walk and chew briefly, then check whether movement breaks the seal or changes cancellation.
  5. If ANC seems weak, reseat the buds, try another tip, clean the microphone openings and temporarily disable adaptive modes to compare fixed ANC.
  6. If wind becomes intrusive, try the earbuds’ wind-reduction setting or transparency mode; microphone buffeting can make ANC unpleasant.

If one side sounds quieter, check for earwax or a blocked mesh, inspect the tip and review your device’s audio-balance setting. If battery life falls short of its stated figure, compare again with ANC, immersive audio and high volume disabled. When multipoint fails, disconnect unused devices, check app settings and codec conditions, and update firmware. If features are missing, verify your phone’s operating system, companion app, account, region and device compatibility.

Prices, battery ratings and fit are not apples-to-apples

For a current U.S. price, check the manufacturer or retailer at the time you buy. The cited prices are not all captured on the same date: Bose showed $299 and Samsung from $249.99 on August 18, 2026; SoundGuys lists MSRP figures of $329.99 for Sony WF-1000XM6, $249 for AirPods Pro 3, $299.95 for Sennheiser MTW4 and $119.99 for Sony WF-C710N. MSRP is not a promise that a product is currently available at that price, and a temporary discount is not its normal list price. Product pages: Sony XM6, AirPods Pro 3, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser and Sony C710N.

Battery results vary with ANC, transparency, spatial audio, codec, volume, calls, temperature, multipoint and firmware. The Sony and Apple figures above are SoundGuys test results, not manufacturer ratings; Bose’s six-hour figure is a manufacturer rating. Likewise, ANC percentages come from one outlet’s method and cannot be fairly compared with another lab’s score. Independent coverage can help track changes in the category: RTINGS’ ANC-earbud recommendations, updated August 10, 2026, added Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro as a midrange pick and retained Bose Ultra 2 as a comfort pick.

When over-ear headphones are a better choice

Consider over-ear headphones if you find in-ear seals uncomfortable, need to keep earbuds in for many uninterrupted hours, or want larger controls and a different fit. Open-ear earbuds are designed to leave the ear canal open, which can improve environmental awareness but generally cannot provide the same passive seal or ANC performance as sealed in-ear models. Bose’s product comparison lists Ultra Open without ANC; it is not an ANC substitute. See Bose’s comparison and product information.
