Alarmshock was described as a wristband alarm that starts with sound and vibration, then delivers an electric shock if the wearer fails to take the band to its separate dock within two minutes. That is the device’s reported design—not proof that it reliably gets people out of bed, improves sleep habits, or is safe. Its Kickstarter campaign was funded, but the available campaign record does not establish that backers received rewards or that the band is currently for sale.
How the Alarmshock wristband was supposed to work
Contemporary reports in 2017 described Alarmshock as a band worn and locked around the wrist before bed, paired with a separate dock. At alarm time, the band sounds and vibrates. The wearer then has two minutes to reach the dock, where the band can be unlocked and the alarm stopped. If the wearer misses that window, the band is reported to deliver an electric shock; New Atlas said it could shock up to five times if not deactivated.
New Atlas also described the dock as having a charging port for the band and a microUSB port for charging mobile devices. Wareable separately described the sound-and-vibration alert followed by electrical stimulation, and said tapping the band at the dock stopped the alarm. These are descriptions in contemporary coverage, not findings from independent product testing. (New Atlas, May 10, 2017; Wareable, May 15, 2017)
Does it really make you get out of bed?
The design tries to make waking an action rather than a button press: the wearer must take the band to its dock to stop the alarm. But the sources establish only the intended mechanism. They do not establish that Alarmshock made users get up consistently, changed their sleep habits, or outperformed ordinary alarms. The product’s shock feature is a reported consequence for missing the deadline, not evidence of improved waking outcomes.

Alarmshock Ltd.’s 2016 press release identifies Callum Reece as founder and inventor. Reece said the idea came from his fear of negative consequences for arriving late to work, and that he wanted to create a more immediate consequence for not getting up. That explains the creator’s rationale, but it is not independent evidence that the approach works. What the Kickstarter result does—and does not—show
The Kickstarter campaign page records £8,018 pledged by 84 backers toward a £4,000 goal. That shows the campaign exceeded its funding target; it does not confirm that rewards were manufactured or delivered, or that Alarmshock is available to buy now. (Kickstarter campaign page)

New Atlas reported in May 2017 that the project was being funded and had a planned October shipment if the campaign proceeded as expected. That was a forecast at the time, not evidence that shipments took place. The cited material does not verify current fulfillment, retail stock, or an Amazon listing.

What to check before relying on a wristband alarm
- Availability: Confirm that a current listing is genuine and that the seller has the product in stock; campaign funding alone does not confirm either.
- What stops the alarm: The reported Alarmshock routine requires reaching the dock and tapping or docking the band, rather than simply silencing a bedside alarm.
- Evidence and safety: The cited sources describe the intended features, but do not provide controlled evidence of effectiveness or an authoritative safety finding for the shocks.
