How do Black and Grey differ?
Black: a coated, all-black treatment
The MK2 TI pairs a bead-blasted Grade 5 titanium case with a DLC coating, a matt black dial and a black FKM strap. ALTO describes the design as an all-black presentation with metallized sapphire. Its product copy calls black “the absence of visible light” and, for ALTO, “a luminous void.” That is the brand’s design language, rather than a performance claim.

Grey: titanium’s natural tone
The MK3 TI uses bead-blasted Grade 5 titanium without the DLC coating specified for the Black. Its matt grey dial and FKM strap continue the restrained, tonal palette. ALTO presents Grey as an expression of titanium’s grey tone.
The two models share the same movement and listed technical figures, so the practical choice is primarily between a darker coated look and the more visibly metallic bead-blasted finish.

What movement does the ART 01 use?
Both editions use the A01, an automatic micro-rotor calibre with a seconds hand that runs in reverse. ALTO credits Barth Nussbaumer with designing the movement and Le Cercle des Horlogers with its development and production. The brand’s Entourage page describes that collaboration; it is more precise to describe the A01 as a collaborative calibre than simply as wholly in-house.
How many were made?
The figure depends on which source and date you use. ALTO’s current English product pages state limited editions of 30 pieces for each variant. Launch coverage published on February 17, 2025 gave different figures: Time+Tide reported 20 pieces each, while SJX described around 20 produced that year and said the run was not a limited edition per se.

For ALTO’s current stated edition size, the brand pages are the clearest reference; the earlier reports document what was reported at launch.
What are the size and water-resistance specifications?
ALTO’s current product pages list a 40 mm case and 5 ATM water resistance for both editions. Time+Tide’s February 2025 launch coverage instead reported 41 mm and 50 metres. Those are the respective sources’ stated figures and wording; the difference should not be silently collapsed into a single specification. A 5 ATM listing should not be treated as a dive-watch rating.

A current retail price and stock status are not established by the available official product-page information. For historical context, SJX reported a price of €25,500 including VAT in February 2025, while Time+Tide described the price as on request. Neither is a confirmed current quote.
