The Amazfit Helio Strap is a screen-free fitness tracker that sends health and activity data to the Zepp app, with core statistics available without a required subscription. It is a plausible lower-cost alternative to Whoop, but reviewers found its automatic workout detection unreliable and its app less polished; the evidence does not show that the two deliver equivalent features or results.
Choose the Helio Strap if you want basic recovery-style tracking without an ongoing membership and are comfortable reviewing data in Zepp. If you rely on automatic activity logging or prefer a more guided app experience, compare it with Whoop before buying.

What the Helio Strap offers
The Helio Strap is a screen-free wearable that sends measurements to the Zepp app. The official manual identifies it as model A2445 and lists Bluetooth LE 5.2, a 232 mAh battery, and minimum compatibility of Android 7.0 or iOS 15.0. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance findings.
Amazfit describes the device as using its BioTracker 6.0 PPG sensor, with 5 photodiodes and 2 LEDs. Its product page states that the strap meets ISO 22810:2010 5 ATM water resistance, up to 50 meters, and is suitable for splashes, snow, showering, and swimming under the stated conditions. Amazfit advises taking it off for hot showers or saunas because steam can affect the seal.

Subscription, price, and value
Reviewers describe core Helio statistics as available without a required subscription. That is a different ownership model from Whoop’s membership service, but it does not mean every Zepp service is free: Zepp Aura premium services are separate from core Helio tracking.
Wareable and Tom’s Guide reported US pricing around $99 to $99.99 and UK pricing around £99 in their reviews. TechRadar also listed $99.99 in its April 2026 comparison. These are time-specific reported prices, not a live quote; check the current price, availability, and bundle for your region before purchasing.
The lower reported upfront price and lack of a required subscription for core statistics may appeal to buyers who do not want an ongoing fee. Whoop may be a better fit if its software and membership ecosystem are more important to you. The reviewed evidence does not establish that the devices offer identical insights.

Workout detection and heart-rate use
Automatic workout detection is a notable Helio caveat. Wareable and Tom’s Guide both reported unreliable detection in their reviews. Tom’s Guide said manually starting activities from the app worked better in its test, so consider whether you are willing to do that rather than rely on automatic logging.
Heart-rate performance depends on both the device and how it is worn. Wareable reported particularly good heart-rate performance with upper-arm wear during its testing; this is a reviewer finding, not a lab certification or proof of equivalence with Whoop. Amazfit sells a Helio-specific armband as an optional accessory. Its US store listed the armband at $19.99 when the dossier was checked, but price and availability can change.
- Check whether the strap bundle you are considering includes an arm strap.
- If upper-arm wear matters to you, confirm the accessory is compatible and available in your region.
- Decide whether manually starting workouts is acceptable, given the reported automatic-detection issues.
Battery life and water resistance
Tom’s Guide reported that roughly 10 days was a reasonable battery-life expectation in its use, while noting that its test period included days when the author did not wear the device. Treat this as one reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed result for every wearer or usage pattern.
For water use, follow Amazfit’s guidance rather than assuming every exposure is suitable: the manufacturer states 5 ATM resistance and suitability for swimming under its stated conditions, but advises removing the strap for hot showers and saunas.

Who should consider the Helio Strap?
The Helio Strap is worth considering if you want a screen-free tracker, do not want a required subscription for core statistics, and are comfortable using the Zepp app. It may also suit you if you are willing to start workouts manually or want to evaluate upper-arm placement with the optional armband.
Look elsewhere or compare carefully if automatic workout detection and polished app guidance are priorities. Independent reviews identify these as weaknesses, and the dossier does not support claims that Helio matches Whoop across all metrics, coaching, or outcomes.
