“Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet in steel” describes a group of watches, not one universal specification. One documented example, the 41 mm Selfwinding Chronograph reference 26393ST.OO.A348KB.01, pairs a blue dial and blue rubber-coated strap with AP’s selfwinding Calibre 4401 flyback chronograph. Its specifications and the brand’s regional price display apply to that reference alone.
What does “Code 11.59 in steel” mean?
Audemars Piguet introduced stainless steel to the Code 11.59 collection across six 41 mm Selfwinding and Selfwinding Chronograph references. The brand described the 2023 launch as a “new signature” for the collection; that is AP’s characterization, not an independent assessment. Audemars Piguet’s launch video was published on 15 May 2023.
The steel versions are not all the same watch. For a representative chronograph, the official listing for reference 26393ST.OO.A348KB.01 provides the detailed specifications below. Reference 26393ST.OO.A348KB.01: the documented blue-dial version
This 41 mm Selfwinding Chronograph has a stainless-steel case measuring 12.6 mm thick and stated water resistance of 30 m. AP describes its dial as “Bleu nuit, Nuage 50”: blue counters, a grey external zone, a grey counter at 6, white-gold hour markers and hands with luminescent coating, and a grey inner bezel. It is fitted with a blue rubber-coated strap and a stainless-steel pin buckle. These details identify this reference, not every steel Code 11.59.

Those figures describe the watch on paper; they do not establish how it sits on a particular wrist, how clearly its dial reads in changing light, or how its surfaces look under reflections. No first-hand handling observations are available here, so those qualities should not be inferred from the specification sheet.
What does Calibre 4401 do?
AP specifies a selfwinding Calibre 4401 with a flyback chronograph, hours, minutes, small seconds and date. Its stated power reserve is 70 hours, with a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). The manufacturer also lists 40 jewels, 381 parts, a 32 mm total diameter and 6.8 mm thickness. These are AP specifications, not independently measured results.

A flyback chronograph allows the timing sequence to be reset and restarted in one operation, rather than stopping, resetting and starting as separate steps. That is the movement’s central practical distinction from a conventional chronograph; the watch also includes a date display.
How do the other surfaced steel chronographs differ?
AP’s other surfaced steel chronograph listings demonstrate why reference numbers matter. The available descriptions establish differences in dial treatment and, for one model, bracelet; they do not establish a complete side-by-side comparison of movement, dimensions, water resistance or price.
