Huawei announced the standard Watch GT 5 on 19 September 2024. It is available in 46 mm and 41 mm versions, with the larger model offering longer battery estimates and the smaller model a lighter, more compact fit. Both require Android 9.0 or later or iOS 13.0 or later, and Huawei rates them 5 ATM and IP69K—but only for suitable shallow-water use, not diving.
What the Huawei Watch GT 5 is
The Watch GT 5 is Huawei’s standard model in the GT 5 Series, unveiled at the company’s Innovative Product Launch in Barcelona on 19 September 2024. Huawei’s launch release listed a starting price of €249 for the standard model; that was an announcement-era figure, not a verified current or universal regional price.
The watch works with Android, iOS and EMUI phones, subject to Huawei’s stated minimum versions and feature limitations by handset, region and operating system.
41 mm versus 46 mm
| Specification | 46 mm | 41 mm |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer dimensions | 45.8 × 45.8 × 10.7 mm | 41.3 × 41.3 × 9.5 mm |
| Weight without strap | Approximately 48 g | Approximately 35 g |
| Display | 1.43-inch AMOLED, 466 × 466 pixels, 326 PPI | 1.32-inch AMOLED, 466 × 466 pixels, 352 PPI |
| Maximum-use estimate | Up to 14 days | Up to 7 days |
| Regular-use estimate | Up to 9 days | Up to 5 days |
| With Always-On Display | Up to 5 days | Up to 3 days |
Huawei labels the dimensions and weights as theoretical manufacturer values. The 46 mm version is the better choice if endurance matters most; the 41 mm version is the less imposing option for smaller wrists and weighs about 13 g less before a strap is fitted.

Battery life: what Huawei’s numbers mean
Huawei’s figures come from internal laboratory tests, not independent testing. “Maximum use” is not a guaranteed everyday result.
For the 46 mm model, Huawei’s regular-use test assumes default settings, Bluetooth calls and audio playback for 30 minutes each week, continuous heart-rate monitoring, overnight sleep monitoring, stress monitoring, 180 minutes of exercise per week, message notifications and 30 minutes of screen-on time per day. Huawei says actual life changes with use and environment. Always-On Display, frequent workouts, calls, navigation and heavy notifications can reduce runtime.

Water resistance: 5 ATM and IP69K are not a diving rating
The standard GT 5 carries 5 ATM and IP69K ratings. Huawei says it is suitable for shallow-water activities such as pool or coastal swimming. It explicitly says not to use the watch for free diving, scuba diving or other diving activities.
- Avoid hot showers, hot springs and saunas.
- Keep it away from high humidity, soaps and cleaning products.
- Water resistance is not permanent and can deteriorate through wear.
Therefore, calling the standard GT 5 simply “waterproof” would overstate Huawei’s guidance.

Hardware, sensors and connectivity
The watch uses a stainless-steel front case and a high-performance fiber-reinforced composite rear case. Huawei lists fluoroelastomer, composite-leather, woven and, in the 41 mm range, Milanese strap options; configurations vary by size and colour, and accessories may be sold separately.
Listed sensors are an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, optical heart-rate sensor, barometer, temperature sensor and ambient-light sensor. Connectivity includes NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and multi-system GNSS using GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS, with L1 and L5 details specified by Huawei. These specifications do not establish clinical accuracy or medical-device status.

Phone compatibility and feature caveats
- Android 9.0 or later.
- iOS 13.0 or later.
- Huawei also describes compatibility with EMUI smartphones.
Compatibility does not mean identical features on every phone. Huawei cautions that availability can vary by region, phone model and operating system, so check the current local product page and the Huawei Health app requirements for your handset before buying.

Do not transfer the Pro model’s headline sports features to the standard watch. Huawei’s launch release assigns more than 15,000 global 3D golf-course maps and a certified 40-metre free-diving mode to the GT 5 Pro. The standard GT 5 specification instead says it is not suitable for free dives or scuba diving.

Watch faces and straps
Huawei’s 2024 launch material promoted more than 50,000 downloadable watch faces in its Watch Face Marketplace. That is a catalogue figure; availability and paid content depend on the store and watch model. Strap choices differ between the two case sizes, so verify the exact connector and size before ordering a replacement.
Which size should you choose?
Choose 46 mm if
- You want Huawei’s longest stated battery estimates.
- You prefer the larger 1.43-inch display.
- Your wrist comfortably suits a 45.8 mm case.
Choose 41 mm if
- You want a lighter 35 g case and smaller 41.3 mm footprint.
- You prefer a less prominent watch on a narrow wrist.
- You accept the shorter seven-, five- and three-day maximum, regular-use and Always-On Display estimates.
What is not established by Huawei’s specifications
The cited Huawei material does not provide independent battery testing, comparative sensor or GPS accuracy, current software-support duration, present-day local pricing or stock information. Those points should be checked against a current regional listing and your specific phone before purchase.
