B by Lenskart Opens Its AI Camera Smartglasses Platform to Indian Developers

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Lenskart announced on 5 November 2025 that it would open the upcoming B by Lenskart AI camera smartglasses platform to Indian developers, independent builders, startups and consumer-app companies. The ambition is to make glasses a platform for India-specific experiences in food delivery, entertainment, fitness, navigation, learning, accessibility and communication.

The important qualification is that an “open platform” announcement is not the same as a publicly documented SDK, API or app store. Lenskart has since launched B in a controlled rollout, but the sources available do not establish self-serve developer access.

The short version

  • Announcement: 5 November 2025, covering an intended developer ecosystem around B by Lenskart.
  • Target builders: Indian developers, independent developers, startups and consumer-app companies.
  • Proposed use cases: food delivery, entertainment, fitness, navigation, learning, accessibility and communication.
  • Product status: Lenskart later said B had launched, with limited shipping and more than 30,000 people on the waitlist by its Q4 FY26 reporting.
  • Public SDK status: No public SDK, API reference, developer portal or app marketplace is established by the sources reviewed.

The original announcement was reported by The Economic Times, with related coverage from Business Standard and Moneycontrol.

What B by Lenskart is

B is an AI-enabled camera smartglasses product rather than only an eyewear accessory. The glasses combine a camera, microphones, speakers, touch controls, voice interaction and phone connectivity. Lenskart also lists prescription compatibility, making the product closer to everyday eyewear than a headset designed only for technology enthusiasts.

These specifications come from Lenskart’s official B product page. Earlier pre-launch reporting described the glasses as weighing about 40g; the current first-party listing says 45g, which should be treated as the operative specification.

What the glasses can do

Lenskart’s product material describes hands-free photo and video capture, AI conversations, live AI interaction, translation, note-taking, meal logging, calls and audio playback. The current product page highlights “Look & Tell,” “Live AI” and “Live Note-taking,” and says the system supports speech in more than 40 languages.

Lenskart founder Peyush Bansal described the developer announcement as using Google Gemini 2.5 Live AI for real-time conversational intelligence in a LinkedIn post. Later shareholder materials said early users responded positively to the depth of Gemini integration and multilingual support.

Reports also mentioned possibilities such as UPI payments, wellness insights and integrations with services including Zomato, Swiggy and BookMyShow. Those references should be read as reported or intended use cases, not proof that every capability is live for every customer or available through a third-party API.

What Lenskart says developers could build

The platform strategy is aimed at applications that benefit from visual context, hands-free input, audio feedback or conversational interaction. The categories reported around the announcement include:

  • Food and commerce: voice-led ordering, visual product or meal assistance and delivery updates.
  • Entertainment: glance-free discovery, ticketing and contextual media controls.
  • Fitness and wellness: activity guidance, meal logging and hands-free coaching.
  • Navigation: spoken directions and context-aware assistance while moving through a city.
  • Learning: translation, visual explanations and language practice.
  • Accessibility: audio descriptions and interfaces that reduce dependence on a phone screen.
  • Communication: calls, messages and voice-first workflows.

These are the kinds of experiences Lenskart wanted its ecosystem to explore. They are not a published catalogue of shipped integrations.

What “opening the platform” does—and does not—mean

The available reporting supports a platform or partner-integration ambition: Lenskart intended developers and apps to work with the glasses’ camera and AI capabilities. It does not establish that any developer can immediately download tools, obtain credentials and publish an application.

Not publicly confirmed

  • A downloadable SDK.
  • Public API documentation or code samples.
  • Supported programming languages and frameworks.
  • Developer keys, authentication and quotas.
  • Whether processing runs on the glasses, the phone, Lenskart’s cloud or a combination.
  • Third-party access to camera frames, microphone input, Gemini responses or device controls.
  • An app-store submission and distribution system.
  • Commercial terms, revenue sharing or enterprise licensing.
  • Whether access is open, invitation-only or a private beta.

Using Gemini inside B also does not mean developers receive unrestricted access to Google’s Gemini APIs. Product-level AI integration and a separate developer interface are different things.

  2. November 2025: Reports expected commercial availability around December, but no definitive launch date was established at the time. Gadgets 360 also carried the earlier pre-launch specifications.
  3. 11 February 2026: Lenskart’s Q3 materials described a Q4 FY26 soft launch and mentioned photos, video, meal logging and AI chat.
  4. Q4 FY26, reported in May 2026: Lenskart said B had launched, more than 30,000 customers were on the waitlist and limited shipping had begun, initially prioritising content creators and people with strong daily-use cases.
  5. 18 August 2026: The official product page listed detailed hardware and feature information, while public developer documentation remained unestablished in the available material.

The February update is in Lenskart’s Q3 presentation. The May status appears in its Q4 FY26 shareholder results and an NSE-filed transcript.

Why India-specific integrations matter

India gives Lenskart a large developer base and a set of use cases that generic demonstrations may not address. Multilingual voice interaction could be useful where typing is inconvenient. Hands-free access may help commuters, field workers, content creators and people who find phone interfaces difficult to use. Local services for delivery, ticketing, payments and entertainment could make the glasses more useful than a device limited to generic camera and audio functions.

Lenskart also brings prescription eyewear, retail distribution and manufacturing experience to a category often led by consumer-electronics companies. That could help B become an everyday-wear product, although the company has framed the initiative as a multi-year effort and not an immediate financial driver.

What developers need to resolve before building

Access and execution model

  • Is the programme available to all developers or selected partners?
  • Does an app run primarily on the phone, in the cloud or on the glasses?
  • Can an app receive camera frames, invoke voice commands or control audio?
  • Is Gemini access mediated by Lenskart?
  • What happens without a network connection?

Privacy and consent

A camera worn in public can capture bystanders, documents, screens, addresses and private conversations. Any serious integration needs clear consent flows, a visible recording indicator, retention and deletion controls, and an explanation of cloud processing and secondary use. Payments, meal logging and wellness data may add further sensitivity. No specific compliance claim should be made until Lenskart’s developer terms and data policies are available.

Battery, phone and network dependence

The four-hour figure is an “up to” claim, not a guaranteed runtime. Camera capture, calls, live AI, Bluetooth and mobile data can all affect endurance; Lenskart has not published a B-specific workload benchmark in the material reviewed. Developers must test Bluetooth reconnection, background permissions, microphone and camera permissions, low-battery behaviour, intermittent data and Android device variation. The official iOS 18 and Android 12 requirements also exclude older phones.

What this means for buyers

B may suit someone seeking hands-free photos and video, conversational AI, translation, calls, audio and prescription-compatible smart eyewear. It is a weaker fit for buyers expecting all-day intensive camera use, standalone operation without a phone or a mature third-party app ecosystem today.

The platform announcement is a promise about direction, not evidence of a large public marketplace. Buyers should judge the current product on its listed features and availability rather than assuming that every reported integration is already accessible.

Bottom line

Lenskart has clearly declared an ecosystem strategy: combine its eyewear and retail capabilities with camera hardware, AI and Indian developers. B has progressed from announcement to a phased hardware launch, with a substantial waitlist and limited early shipments. The decisive unanswered question is practical developer access. Until Lenskart publishes stable documentation, credentials, permissions and distribution terms, “open platform” should be understood as an announced integration programme—not a confirmed, self-serve SDK ecosystem.
