“Baume & Mercier Riviera 39mm” describes a family, not one watch. The current catalog includes automatic 39 mm references and the 2026 Riviera 73 quartz references. Choose the exact reference first: movement, thickness, water resistance, reserve or battery autonomy, and strap system vary substantially between models.
What the Riviera 39mm is
Baume & Mercier introduced the Riviera collection in 1973. Its defining visual feature is the angular, dodecagonal case, a shape the company presents as part of the collection’s sport-chic identity. The broader Riviera range now spans automatic, Baumatic and quartz watches, so diameter alone does not identify the movement or specifications. See the official Riviera collection catalog.

Riviera 39mm quartz or automatic?
Choose Riviera 73 quartz for thinness and low maintenance
The Riviera 73 models M0A10844, M0A10845 and M0A10846 use quartz movements and share the stated 7.7 mm case thickness. For M0A10844, Baume & Mercier specifies five years of autonomy, a date display and 5 ATM water resistance. Quartz is the practical choice if you want a slimmer case and do not want to wind or reset a watch after it stops.
Choose an automatic or Baumatic model for mechanical operation
The 10720 uses a Baume & Mercier Baumatic manufacture movement and provides a stated 120-hour power reserve. That reserve is a mechanical running-time figure, not battery life. The 10787 also lists 120 hours, but its 50 m rating and discontinued status make it a different buying proposition from the 10720.

Water resistance: 50 m, 100 m and 5 ATM are not interchangeable claims
Use the rating printed for the exact reference. The 10720 page states 100 m, while the 10787 page states 50 m. M0A10844 is specified at 5 ATM, approximately 50 m. These ratings describe water-pressure testing categories, not a promise that every Riviera 39mm is suitable for the same activities. Follow the brand’s instructions for crown use, seals and servicing, and do not transfer the 10720 rating to another reference.

Thickness, case design and wearing character
The Riviera 73 quartz series is stated at 7.7 mm, giving it the clearest slim-profile option in the documented 39 mm range. The 10787 automatic is listed at 9.6 mm. A thickness figure for 10720 and the other cataloged automatic references is not stated in the cited pages, so it should be checked before purchase.
All Riviera models retain the collection’s dodecagonal case language. Dial colors, bezel treatments and precious-metal details can change the visual effect even when the diameter remains 39 mm; compare photographs and the exact reference rather than assuming every 39 mm Riviera has the same layout.

Bracelet and strap compatibility
Interchangeability is reference-specific. The Riviera 73 release describes a steel bracelet with a tool-free spring-bar system, and the 10720 page describes a self-interchangeable strap system. Those statements confirm the factory system for the named models; they do not establish universal fit for third-party straps or for every 39 mm Riviera. Before ordering another strap or bracelet, confirm the reference, attachment geometry and the seller’s return policy. Baume & Mercier’s broader Riviera information is available on its Riviera Baumatic page.

- Record the full reference. “39 mm” is insufficient; use a code such as M0A10844 or 10720.
- Decide on movement. Select Riviera 73 quartz for the documented 7.7 mm profile and five-year autonomy on M0A10844, or an automatic/Baumatic model for mechanical operation and a stated 120-hour reserve on 10720 and 10787.
- Check water resistance on that model page. Do not infer 100 m from the 10720 specification for another reference.
- Confirm the supplied bracelet or strap. Interchangeable systems differ, and third-party compatibility is not universal.
- Verify market, stock, warranty and price. The 10787 page is marked no longer available, while catalog presence does not guarantee inventory. Prices and availability depend on country, seller and date.
Riviera 39mm: which reference fits which buyer?
| Buyer priority | Best-documented match | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Slim quartz watch with long battery interval | M0A10844 (or another Riviera 73 after checking its specification) | 7.7 mm series thickness; M0A10844 has five-year autonomy |
| Baumatic mechanical movement and higher stated resistance | 10720 | 120-hour reserve, 100 m water resistance and self-interchangeable strap system |
| Rose-gold heritage model | 10787 | 39 mm, 9.6 mm thick and 120-hour reserve, but officially no longer available |
| Another cataloged automatic reference | 10822, 10770, 10748, 10715 or 10714 | Compare its own product page; the cited material does not establish complete specifications |
The Bottom Line
The essential rule is simple: buy by reference, not by diameter. Riviera 73 quartz models deliver the documented 7.7 mm profile, while the Baumatic 10720 offers a 120-hour reserve and 100 m rating; the 10787 shares the reserve but is 50 m rated and discontinued. Confirm the exact page, market and strap system before paying.
