Buyer’s Guide: Omega Speedmaster ’57 Broad Arrow 3594.50

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: Buy the most original, best-documented 3594.50 you can verify—not simply the least expensive listing. Check the dial, Broad Arrow hands, steel tachymeter bezel, Calibre 1861, bracelet reference, service evidence and delivered cost before committing.

What the Omega Speedmaster ’57 3594.50 is

Omega introduced the Speedmaster ’57 in 1997 for its 50 Mission Cases project. The regular-production stainless-steel reference 3594.50 followed in 1998 and was produced until 2003 before disappearing from Omega catalogues. It is a tribute to the 1957 Speedmaster CK2915, but it is not a dimensionally exact replica: the original was approximately 38.6mm, while the 3594.50 uses a larger 42mm Moonwatch-derived case.

The result is a collector-oriented chronograph with vintage visual cues and modern-wearing proportions. It is discontinued, so condition, originality and documentation matter more than a simple production-year comparison.

Reference-defining specifications

Feature 3594.50 detail
Case 42mm asymmetrical stainless steel with lyre lugs
Movement Manual-winding Omega Calibre 1861
Crystal Hesalite
Bezel All-steel bezel with engraved black tachymeter scale
Dial Applied Omega logo; no “Professional” designation
Hands Steel Broad Arrow hour and minute hands, alpha subdial hands
Luminescence Super-LumiNova on indices and central hands
Case back Hippocampus medallion and “Speedmaster” text
Magnetism protection Soft-iron inner case
Production Steel examples from 1998 to 2003

The case-back layout distinguishes this reference from the standard Professional 3570.50, whose back carries NASA flight-qualified wording. Do not treat that difference alone as proof of authenticity; inspect the complete watch and its serial information.

What to inspect before buying

Dial, logo and hands

Examine high-resolution photographs for corrosion on the applied Omega logo and Broad Arrow hands, a known concern on earlier examples. Check that the dial has the expected non-Professional layout, that the hour and minute hands are the Broad Arrow style, and that the alpha subdial hands are present. Mismatched lume color, patina or hand shapes can indicate replacement parts or later service work.

Bezel and tachymeter engraving

The defining bezel is steel, not a black insert. Inspect the engraved black tachymeter scale for sharpness, alignment and damage. A replacement or incorrect bezel can materially reduce originality and value, even when the watch otherwise looks correct.

Movement and service documentation

Ask for movement photographs or an inspection confirming Omega Calibre 1861. Request dated invoices that identify the watch or movement and describe the work performed. A seller’s verbal assurance is not equivalent to a service record. Robert-Jan Broer’s practical rule in Fratello’s 2022 buyer guidance is: “if there’s no proof, it has not been serviced!” Budget for an Omega-qualified service centre or reputable independent chronograph specialist when records are absent.

Bracelet and end links

Steel examples were supplied with several bracelet combinations. Identify which one is fitted:

Bracelet End links Clasp detail Taper
1499 842 Earlier style 20mm to 16mm
1498 840 Earlier style 20mm to 16mm
1998 840 Later clasp with pushers 20mm to 18mm

Check stretch, missing or replaced links, clasp security and whether the end links sit correctly against the case. A watch can be genuine while wearing a non-original or later bracelet, but that should be reflected in the price and description.

Completeness and provenance

Compare the box type, warranty or papers, purchase receipt and serial information. Complete sets generally command more than watch-only examples, but paperwork should correspond plausibly to the reference and serial rather than merely being present.

Seller and transaction safeguards

  • Require clear, well-lit photographs of the dial, case sides, case back, clasp, end links and movement where possible.
  • Confirm a written return period and the procedure for an authenticity dispute.
  • Calculate shipping, tax, insurance, marketplace fees and a potential service before comparing prices.
  • Use a payment method with meaningful buyer protection and keep the listing, photographs and correspondence.

What is a fair price?

There is no single fair number because originality, service history, bracelet, completeness, geography and transaction costs move the value substantially. The following figures provide context, not a guaranteed sale price.

Source and date Condition or measure Reported amount
WatchCharts, 2022 (reported by Fratello) Average €3,680 / US$3,735
Chrono24, 2022 (reported by Fratello) Average with box and papers €4,851 / US$5,075
Chrono24, 2022 (reported by Fratello) Average without box and papers €4,525 / US$4,734
Chrono24 listings captured in 2026 Individual asking prices, not completed sales Approximately US$3,105, $3,278, $3,799, $4,090, $4,150 and $5,517

The 2022 averages are historical snapshots. The 2026 figures are live asking prices that can include differences in condition, location, shipping, certification and completeness; they do not establish what buyers actually paid. Treat a low listing as a prompt to investigate missing parts, corrosion, service status or transaction risk—not automatically as a bargain.

How to compare two listings

Score each candidate on the same five axes before looking at the headline price:

Axis Questions to answer Why it changes the decision
Originality Are the dial, Broad Arrow hands and steel bezel correct and consistent? Incorrect or replaced visible parts reduce collector appeal and can be costly to source.
Service Is there dated, watch-specific documentation for Calibre 1861? An undocumented service should be treated as future cost and mechanical risk.
Bracelet Which reference and end links are fitted, and how much stretch remains? A correct, sound bracelet adds utility and value; a replacement changes the comparison.
Completeness Are box, papers, receipt and serial details present and credible? Provenance and completeness affect resale and confidence.
Total delivered cost What will shipping, tax, insurance and possible service add? The cheapest listing price may not be the cheapest ownership outcome.

Bracelet, leather and NATO options

The reference uses 20mm bracelet end links and was also sold on a tan leather strap as reference 3894.50. A 20mm leather strap or 20mm NATO is therefore the most natural alternative when the bracelet is missing, replaced or simply uncomfortable. Verify the individual watch’s lug width, spring-bar clearance and buckle dimensions before ordering; aftermarket straps can vary even when labelled “20mm.”

Buying procedure

  1. Request the evidence pack: obtain the serial information, movement and case photographs, bracelet reference, service invoices and a complete-set inventory.
  2. Check the visible reference details: confirm the 42mm asymmetrical case, non-Professional dial, Broad Arrow hands, steel tachymeter bezel and Hippocampus case back.
  3. Resolve discrepancies: ask the seller to explain corrosion, mismatched lume, replacement parts, missing links or an unexplained service gap in writing.
  4. Price the risk: deduct the realistic cost of service, parts, bracelet work and taxes from the amount you are prepared to spend.
  5. Protect the transaction: use documented authenticity protection, a written return window and insured shipping.
  6. Inspect on arrival: compare the delivered watch with the listing photographs before removing protective materials or sizing the bracelet.

How it compares with nearby Speedmaster choices

Choice Choose it when… Main trade-off
Speedmaster ’57 Broad Arrow 3594.50 You want the discontinued CK2915-inspired design, Broad Arrow hands and steel tachymeter bezel in a 42mm case. Original, documented examples can cost more than compromised listings, and replacement parts are a real concern.
1957 Trilogy You prioritize proportions close to the historical watch; the original CK2915 was approximately 38.6mm. It is the smaller historical-dimension choice rather than the 42mm 3594.50 format.
Speedmaster Professional 3570.50 You want conventional Moonwatch styling and NASA-associated case-back wording. It lacks the 3594.50’s Broad Arrow, non-Professional ’57 presentation and Hippocampus case-back treatment.

Who should buy one?

The 3594.50 suits a buyer who values a discontinued reference, vintage-inspired details and a manually wound chronograph, and who is willing to verify parts and service history. It is less suitable for someone seeking a carefree daily watch at the lowest possible entry price, because an apparently inexpensive example may need corrective parts or a full service.

Verdict

Prioritize a coherent, original specification and dated service evidence over box-counting or a tempting low ask. A 3594.50 with the correct dial, Broad Arrow hands, steel tachymeter bezel, Calibre 1861, identifiable bracelet and credible provenance is the stronger purchase—even when its asking price is above the market’s lowest listings.
