The five picks are the Kirium Chronograph CL 1112, Super Professional, Carrera CS3111, Monaco CS2110 and S/el S25706C. They are the guide author’s selections—not a current universal ranking—and the guide’s price estimates are historical, not present-day valuations.
Why the 1990s produced such different TAG Heuer watches
TAG Heuer’s 1990s range included the 2000, 4000, 6000 and S/el families. The brand describes the period’s sports watches as carrying forward functional dive-watch design, while the middle of the decade brought a renewed emphasis on classic chronographs. Its official history dates the Carrera relaunch to 1996 and the Monaco reissue to 1998. The chronology also includes LVMH’s acquisition of TAG Heuer in 1999.
The Carrera’s return was especially significant: a hand-wound mechanical chronograph stood apart from a range then dominated by quartz-powered steel sports watches. TAG Heuer’s official magazine retrospective describes the 1996 re-edition as a project initially conceived as a short-run historical novelty that helped put heritage at the center of the brand’s product direction.
The five watches in the 2021 guide
The original guide grouped its picks under labels including “The Entry Point” and “Money is no object.” Those labels reflect its editorial framing at the time, not a present-day price ladder. The table summarizes what distinguishes each choice.

| Watch | Design and intended appeal | Movement and wearing notes | Historical role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kirium Chronograph CL 1112 | Fluid, late-1990s “liquid metal” styling; the guide’s “The Entry Point” pick. | The Kirium collection included quartz and mechanical watches. Confirm the movement in the exact CL 1112 listing. | Introduced in 1997 as the successor to the 4000 Series. |
| Super Professional | Robust, tool-like dive-watch character. | The guide emphasizes its dive-watch purpose; movement and exact specifications depend on the example and should be verified against its reference. | Represents TAG Heuer’s functional sports-watch side of the decade. |
| Carrera CS3111 | Black-dial reinterpretation of the Carrera 2447N in a 36 mm stainless-steel case. | Manual-wind Lemania 1873 chronograph; the guide states a 40-hour power reserve. | Part of the 1996 Carrera re-edition and the revival of the brand’s chronograph heritage. |
| Monaco CS2110 | Black dial and square case; a less conventional shape that may not suit every wrist. | Automatic chronograph, according to the 2021 guide. | TAG Heuer dates the Monaco reissue to 1998. The guide attributes a 5,000-piece limited run to the CS2110; that figure is not independently corroborated by the official pages cited here. |
| S/el S25706C | Distinctive bracelet and the S/el “Sports Elegance” concept; associated with Ayrton Senna. | Check the specific example’s movement and condition rather than assuming specifications from the family name. | TAG Heuer says Senna wore an S/el as an everyday watch and contributed to the bracelet’s design. |
How the designs differ
Modern sports watches: Kirium, Super Professional and S/el
The Kirium and S/el express different versions of 1990s modernity: the Kirium’s smooth, integrated-looking lines contrast with the S/el’s unmistakable bracelet. The Super Professional is the most overtly utilitarian option in this shortlist, aimed at buyers drawn to a substantial dive-watch presence rather than a vintage chronograph profile.
The Kirium followed the 4000 Series. TAG Heuer dates the 4000 to 1991 and says it occupied a middle ground between the utilitarian 2000 and the more elegant S/el. The brand’s 4000 Series history says it came in three sizes with quartz or automatic movements. Its unusual split logo put the green TAG element on the case and the red Heuer element on the rotating bezel. TAG Heuer says the Kirium effectively replaced it in 1997.

The brand summarized the S/el’s intended versatility with the phrase “with the dinner suit or the wet suit.” In its history of the collection, TAG Heuer also credits Senna with contributing to the design of the bracelet he wore as an everyday watch.
Heritage chronographs: Carrera and Monaco
The Carrera CS3111 offers the more conventional wearing proposition: a round 36 mm case and a manually wound chronograph. Its black dial looks back to the Carrera 2447N. TAG Heuer’s account of the 1996 Carrera relaunch says the re-edition range included two steel versions and one 18-karat-gold version, all with 36 mm cases and hand-wound Lemania chronograph movements. The first re-edition dials used the Heuer shield rather than the word “Carrera.”

The Monaco CS2110 makes a stronger shape statement. Its square case is visually distinctive, but the 2021 guide cautions that it is not the easiest watch to wear. Try to assess the case on your wrist before buying, rather than judging comfort from photographs alone.
Which one fits your priorities?
- Choose the Kirium Chronograph CL 1112 if late-1990s styling is the point and you want a watch that looks unlike the Carrera and Monaco reissues. Verify whether the particular watch has the movement configuration you want.
- Consider the Super Professional if you prefer a purpose-built, tool-like dive-watch look over a dressier chronograph.
- Choose the Carrera CS3111 for a restrained round case, manual-winding interaction and a direct connection to TAG Heuer’s chronograph history.
- Consider the Monaco CS2110 if the square case is central to its appeal and it sits comfortably on your wrist.
- Choose the S/el S25706C if its bracelet and sports-elegance design matter more to you than a conventional bracelet or case shape.
What to check before buying a vintage example
There is no single stable price for these older watches. The original guide appeared in 2021, and its euro estimates should not be treated as current market data. Before committing, inspect the individual watch and ask the seller for documentation. These checks are especially important when a watch’s appeal depends on originality or a particular movement:
- Reference and configuration: match the reference, dial, case and movement to the specific model claimed in the listing.
- Originality: check whether the dial, hands, bezel, bracelet and other visible components are original or replacements, and whether any changes are disclosed.
- Movement condition: ask whether the chronograph and timekeeping functions operate correctly, and request details of any service.
- Service history: seek records where available; if history is unknown, factor that uncertainty into the decision.
- Fit and condition: examine wear, bracelet condition and case shape, and try the watch on if possible—particularly the square Monaco.
Dates and details worth keeping straight
TAG Heuer’s official history dates the Monaco reissue to 1998, as does its retrospective. The 2021 guide says the CS2110 was released in 1997. Those statements concern different levels of specificity, and the sources cited here do not resolve whether that reference appeared before the broader reissue. Use 1998 for the collection-level relaunch; treat the exact CS2110 timing as unsettled unless reference-level documentation establishes it.
