OMEGA dates the Seamaster Planet Ocean to 2005, making 2025 its 20th anniversary year. The collection marked that milestone with a new Worldtimer in March and a seven-model fourth-generation redesign announced in November. Those releases show how the Planet Ocean has expanded from a signature orange-accented dive-watch line into a broad family with very different sizes, materials, movements and depth ratings.
Where the Planet Ocean story begins
OMEGA identifies 2005 as the starting point of the Seamaster Planet Ocean collection. The brand also describes orange as a defining Planet Ocean color from that year. That establishes the anniversary date, but publicly available primary material does not provide a complete, reference-by-reference timeline for every earlier generation. It is therefore more accurate to treat 2005 as the collection’s documented origin than to assign unverified launch dates or specifications to the first three generations.
From the outset, the Planet Ocean name signaled a professional-diving emphasis within the Seamaster range. Over time, however, the label came to cover multiple case sizes, materials, complications and performance levels. A model number is essential when comparing watches.
2025: the 20th-anniversary milestones
March 2025: Planet Ocean Worldtimer
In March 2025, OMEGA added a Worldtimer to the Planet Ocean family. The announcement described two black-ceramic models with 45.50 mm cases, a grade 5 titanium world map, automatic Calibre 8938 and water resistance of 60 bar (600 m).

- Blue Dial with Arabic Numeral and Index Hour Markers, Minute Track, Date Window, Luminescent Hands and Hour Markers
- Stainless Steel Case and Bracelet, Case Diameter: 43.5mm
- Anti-Magnetic, Resistant to Magnetic Fields Reaching 15,000 Gauss
- Self-winding Automatic Chronometer Movement, COSC Chronometer Certified and Co-Axial Escapement
- Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal with Anti-reflective Treatment, Exhibition Case Back
The Worldtimer broadened the collection’s purpose beyond conventional dive timing. Its world-time display adds travel functionality, while the ceramic cases and titanium map maintain the technical, high-contrast character associated with the line.
November 2025: the fourth generation
In November 2025, OMEGA announced a complete fourth-generation redesign: seven Co-Axial Master Chronometer models offered in blue, black or orange, with either rubber straps or stainless-steel bracelets. OMEGA said the redesign arrived exactly 20 years after the first Planet Ocean. The launch announcement stated that the watches were available worldwide at that time; regional stock can change, so buyers should confirm availability locally.
The redesign changes the case and bracelet architecture rather than simply adding a new dial color. OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann described the Planet Ocean as “a symbol of OMEGA’s pioneering spirit and our passion to explore,” presenting that statement as the brand’s own positioning rather than an independent assessment.
Why “Planet Ocean 600M” does not describe one universal watch
Planet Ocean specifications vary substantially by reference. The figures below come from OMEGA user manuals and apply only to the named models.

42 mm; titanium-steel case | 60 bar / 600 m / 2,000 ft | Automatic Calibre 8912 | 60 hours |

45.5 mm; titanium case | 600 bar / 6,000 m / 20,000 ft | Automatic Calibre 8912 | 60 hours |
The contrast is substantial: the 6000M Ultra Deep is rated for ten times the stated depth of the 600M example and uses a larger, all-titanium case. Both manuals specify a 60-hour power reserve, but that shared figure does not make the watches interchangeable.
Planet Ocean Worldtimer specifications in context
The March 2025 Worldtimer announcement lists a 45.50 mm case, black-ceramic construction, a grade 5 titanium world map, automatic Calibre 8938 and 60 bar (600 m) water resistance. Those specifications belong to the announced Worldtimer models, not to every Planet Ocean reference.

Comparing a Planet Ocean requires checking five details in the exact listing or manual:
- Reference number and edition
- Case diameter and thickness
- Case material and bezel construction
- Movement and stated power reserve
- Water-resistance rating and strap or bracelet configuration
How to read the collection’s 20-year history accurately
The documented record supports three firm anniversary milestones: the collection’s 2005 origin, the March 2025 Worldtimer introduction and the November 2025 fourth-generation redesign. It does not, by itself, establish a complete chronology for every earlier generation, reference change or specification. Descriptions of those stages should therefore be tied to a separately documented model number or OMEGA publication rather than inferred from the anniversary announcement.

- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Automatic Men's Watch 215.33.44.22.01.001
This approach also prevents a common mistake: treating “Planet Ocean” as a single specification. A 42 mm 600M, a 45.5 mm 6000M Ultra Deep and a 45.50 mm Worldtimer represent different uses and engineering choices within the same family.
OMEGA’s care advice for Planet Ocean owners
OMEGA recommends rinsing the watch with fresh water after swimming in the sea. For waterproof cases and rubber straps, the brand advises cleaning with soapy water and a toothbrush. OMEGA also recommends an annual water-resistance test at an authorized service center. These are general recommendations; the manual for a particular reference remains the controlling guide for its care and operating limits.
