What is the Citizen Promaster Aqualand 40th Anniversary?
It is a 2025 limited-edition analog-digital dive watch, reference JP2008-06E. Citizen announced the model on June 5, 2025, with a planned Japanese release date of July 10, 2025. The edition is limited to 5,800 pieces worldwide; Citizen U.S. describes them as unnumbered, so limited production does not mean each watch has an individual edition number. How does it connect to the original Aqualand?
Citizen says the first Aqualand launched in 1985 as the world’s first diver’s watch with an electronic depth gauge. That historical “world’s first” description is Citizen’s claim. The anniversary model reprises recognizable features of the original: the depth sensor at 9 o’clock, a crown at 4 o’clock and three push buttons. Its contemporary finish pairs a matte-gray case with gold-tone components. Citizen Japan gives the launch history and design details; Citizen UK also presents it as a tribute to the original.
What does the JP2008-06E do?
Citizen describes a watch with conventional timekeeping and dive-related electronic functions. Its Europe product page says: “The digital display not only shows the time, calendar, alarm and chronograph functions, but also allows depth measurement and dive time tracking in dive mode.” The Japan announcement additionally describes an audible warning when ascent speed exceeds the watch’s threshold. These are manufacturer feature descriptions, not results of an independent dive test.

What are the case dimensions and material details?
Published case measurements differ by region, and the reviewed Citizen pages do not explain why. Do not treat the figures as interchangeable measurements or assume one is a correction of the other.

The Japan measurement is from Citizen Japan; the U.S. width is from Citizen U.S.; and the European chronograph specification is from Citizen Europe. The sensor and multiple controls also make the watch’s layout visually prominent; whether that suits a particular wrist is a matter of preference, not something established by these listings. If precise fit or timing specifications matter to a purchase, consult the current technical information for your market.
The strap uses BENEBiOL, a plant-derived polyurethane raw material. Citizen Japan names Mitsubishi Chemical as its developer and says the strap has an extension and is more resistant to hydrolysis than the previous material; Citizen Europe also emphasizes resistance to hydrolysis in wet conditions. These are Citizen’s material claims about the strap, not an indication that the whole watch is plant-based. Details appear on Citizen Japan’s announcement and Citizen Europe’s product page.

Who might find this anniversary edition appealing?
The JP2008-06E is most distinctive if you want the recognizable Aqualand depth-sensor layout and analog-digital dive functions in a special gray-and-gold finish. The strap’s extension and the retro-inspired control arrangement are also part of its identity. For a buyer whose decision depends on exact wrist fit, chronograph precision or current price, the region-specific listing matters: Citizen’s published dimensions and chronograph specifications are not consistent across the reviewed markets. No like-for-like competitor comparison or independent performance assessment is established here, so those listings do not support a ranking or a claim that it is a best buy.
