Does Dexcom G7 Work With Samsung Galaxy Watch? Official Support, Workarounds, and Phone Requirements

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: Dexcom G7 works with a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, but Dexcom’s current official Direct to Watch feature is for Apple Watch—not Samsung Galaxy Watch. A Galaxy Watch may show phone-mirrored notifications or readings through a third-party Wear OS app, but that is not a Dexcom sensor-to-watch connection and should be treated as a convenience display.

Four different meanings of “works with Samsung Watch”

Compatibility claims become confusing because they describe different data paths. Decide which of these you need:

  1. G7 on a Samsung phone: The official Dexcom G7 Android app runs on phone models and Android versions listed by Dexcom.
  2. Phone notifications on a Galaxy Watch: The watch mirrors alerts or other notifications from the phone. The phone remains the glucose system.
  3. Third-party watch display: A Wear OS app, watch face, or complication obtains Dexcom-related data through a phone, cloud service, Share, Clarity, or another bridge.
  4. Direct sensor-to-watch operation: The G7 sensor sends Bluetooth data straight to the watch, without the phone acting as the intermediary. Dexcom currently documents this for Apple Watch, not Galaxy Watch.

Only the first option is the normal official Android route. The fourth is the phone-free experience many buyers mean, and it is not currently documented for Samsung Galaxy Watch.

What Dexcom officially supports

Dexcom’s G7 compatibility page is the authority for the exact phone model, operating system, region, and app version. On the page checked, Dexcom listed Android 13 as the minimum supported Android version, Android 16 as the highest listed version, and G7 Android app version 2.8 associated with that highest listed support. The page carried a July 29, 2026 update label; these values can change, so check the page immediately before setup or an operating-system upgrade.

The same page currently lists Apple Watch models and watchOS requirements in its smartwatch information rather than a current, model-by-model Samsung Galaxy Watch list. Dexcom’s Direct to Watch FAQ explicitly says the feature is currently compatible only with Apple Watch.

Standard smartwatch use versus Direct to Watch

Mode Data path Phone needed? Galaxy Watch status
Official Android app G7 sensor to compatible Android phone Yes Supported when the exact phone and software are listed
Phone notification mirror Dexcom phone app to watch notifications Yes, generally nearby over Bluetooth May work, subject to phone, watch, and notification settings
Third-party Wear OS display Bridge, Share, Clarity, or phone-derived data to an app or complication Usually Possible in some configurations; not Dexcom Direct to Watch
Direct sensor connection G7 sensor to watch over Bluetooth Not after setup in the documented Apple mode Not currently documented by Dexcom

In standard smartwatch operation, Dexcom describes the watch as an extension of the phone app. The phone generally must stay within range, remain powered, and continue running the required background services. Direct to Watch is different: the sensor itself connects to the watch and can provide the value, trend arrow, graph, and alerts. Dexcom’s documented requirements include an Apple Watch Series 6 or later with watchOS 10 or later, an iPhone on iOS 17 or later, and compatible app versions.

Which Samsung watches are relevant?

Galaxy Watch4 and later models use Wear OS, including newer Watch7 and Watch Ultra models. Samsung says Wear OS watches require a compatible Android phone and the Galaxy Wearable app; see its current requirements at Samsung support. That requirement is separate from Dexcom compatibility.

  • Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Ultra and Watch FE: These are Wear OS families, so they can potentially install Wear OS software, but each app must support the watch’s exact Wear OS release.
  • Older Tizen Galaxy Watches: Do not assume that a modern Wear OS glucose app or complication can be installed.
  • Bluetooth versus LTE: LTE can give supported watch apps an independent internet connection. It does not create Dexcom-approved sensor-to-Galaxy-Watch support.
  • Non-Samsung Android phone: A Galaxy Watch may pair with it, but the phone still has to pass Dexcom’s own model and Android checks.

Can a third-party app put G7 data on a Galaxy Watch?

Potentially. The Google Play listing for Glucose Watch-Dexcom Companion says it can display Dexcom G6, G7, One, and One+ readings on Wear OS watches through an Android phone. Blose and G-Watch Wear are other names discussed in the Wear OS and Dexcom community, but current support for every Samsung model and Wear OS release has not been established in authoritative documentation.

These products are workarounds, not Dexcom’s Direct to Watch feature. A store listing does not establish Dexcom endorsement, medical-device validation, real-time performance, or continued compatibility after Android, Wear OS, or Dexcom updates. Before relying on one, check its current listing, developer update history, supported Wear OS version, data source, permissions, privacy terms, refresh behavior, and any subscription or one-time cost.

Typical third-party setup

  1. Confirm that the app explicitly supports your exact Galaxy Watch and Wear OS version.
  2. Install its phone and watch components from the current official store listing.
  3. Select the data source the app supports, such as a phone bridge, Dexcom Share, or another authorized service.
  4. Authenticate using the method requested by the app; do not bypass Dexcom access controls or share credentials improperly.
  5. Add the app’s complication to a compatible watch face.
  6. Allow required Bluetooth, nearby-device, notification, background, and battery permissions.
  7. Compare the watch timestamp and value with the official Dexcom app while the phone is nearby.
  8. Test after a phone reboot, Bluetooth loss, watch reboot, and temporary internet outage.
  9. Stop using the complication if it becomes stale, inconsistent, or unexplained.

Samsung Health and Health Connect are not automatic Dexcom integration

Pairing a Galaxy Watch with Samsung Health does not automatically import G7 glucose readings. Samsung’s Health Connect documentation describes supported Samsung health-data flows, but it does not establish a current, direct Dexcom G7-to-Samsung Health glucose integration.

Keep these layers separate:

  • The official Dexcom app on the phone.
  • Dexcom Share or Dexcom Clarity cloud data.
  • A third-party bridge or watch complication.
  • Samsung Health data.
  • Health Connect data.

Data appearing in one layer does not prove that it is available, current, or medically equivalent in another.

Does a Galaxy Watch work without the phone?

Not through Dexcom’s officially documented Direct to Watch feature. Even an LTE watch does not replace the phone used for sensor pairing and startup, account authentication, data upload, Share or Follow functions, and many third-party retrieval methods. A bridge may continue briefly from cached data or a cloud connection, but that behavior varies and should not be promised as phone-free monitoring.

Reliability matrix

Setup Official Dexcom path? Phone required? Reliability expectation
G7 with compatible Samsung phone Yes Yes Highest official Android option
G7 alerts mirrored to Galaxy Watch Phone extension Yes Depends on Bluetooth, permissions, and notification settings
Third-party Wear OS app No Direct to Watch endorsement established Usually Variable; may depend on cloud or bridge services
Apple Watch Direct to Watch Yes, where current requirements are met Setup iPhone required; direct sensor-watch operation is documented Official watch route
Dexcom receiver Yes No smartphone required for the receiver display Official fallback

Check compatibility before buying or updating

  1. Identify the exact Samsung phone model and Android version.
  2. Open Dexcom’s G7 compatibility page and confirm the phone model is listed.
  3. Confirm that the Android version is within Dexcom’s tested range and that your installed G7 app meets the listed requirement.
  4. Record the exact Galaxy Watch model and Wear OS version.
  5. Do not infer watch compatibility from phone compatibility.
  6. If using a third-party app, verify its current store listing, supported Wear OS release, data source, update date, and permissions.
  7. Test values and alerts with the phone nearby before depending on the setup.
  8. Keep the Dexcom app or an official receiver available as the authoritative fallback.

Dexcom advises checking compatibility before moving to a new operating system. A phone or watch update can revoke permissions, alter background behavior, or leave a third-party app unsupported.

Troubleshooting stale readings and missed alerts

  • Phone out of range: Restore the Bluetooth connection and check the official Dexcom app.
  • Battery optimization: Exclude Dexcom and any bridge app from restrictive battery or background limits.
  • Background data disabled: Re-enable background activity and mobile or Wi-Fi data.
  • Watch disconnected: Reconnect through Galaxy Wearable and confirm notifications are allowed.
  • Cloud delay: Share, Follow, or Clarity data may not update like the local Dexcom app.
  • Complication not refreshing: Open the watch app, refresh the face, and compare its timestamp with the phone.
  • Update-related failure: Check whether the developer supports the new Android or Wear OS version before reinstalling.
  • Muted alerts: Review Do Not Disturb, bedtime, theater mode, volume, and per-app notification settings.
  • Conflicting accounts: Ensure the phone, bridge, and watch are using the intended Dexcom account and data source.

If the watch conflicts with symptoms or appears stale, check the official Dexcom app or receiver. Dexcom’s provider guidance says readings should be confirmed on the Dexcom CGM app or receiver before treatment decisions; a third-party watch display is not a substitute.

Safety and treatment decisions

A watch is a convenience display. Alerts can be delayed, suppressed, or missed, and a complication may refresh less often than the primary app. Do not change insulin, food, or exercise decisions solely because an unofficial watch display shows a number. Confirm unexpected, rapidly changing, or symptom-inconsistent readings in the Dexcom app or receiver and follow the G7 instructions for use and your clinician’s advice. Dexcom’s safety information is available through its provider FAQs and the G7 user guide.

Best choice by priority

  • Official Android support: Use a phone model listed by Dexcom and keep the official app as the primary display.
  • Samsung ecosystem convenience: Use a Galaxy Watch for tested phone notifications or a currently supported third-party complication, while retaining the phone.
  • Lowest technical risk: Avoid unofficial bridges and use the phone or an official receiver.
  • Phone-free watch display: Samsung Galaxy Watch is not the documented route; Apple Watch Direct to Watch is the currently documented option where its requirements are met.
  • Pump or automated-insulin-delivery users: Check compatibility for the complete pump-and-CGM system separately; watch display support does not establish pump compatibility.

Final verdict

Yes, Dexcom G7 can work with a compatible Samsung phone. No, Dexcom does not currently document an official Direct-to-Watch connection for Samsung Galaxy Watch. Galaxy Watch notifications and third-party Wear OS displays may be useful, but they add dependencies and can become stale. For dependable monitoring, treat the official Dexcom app or receiver as primary and the watch as optional convenience hardware.
