SBGH347 is a stainless-steel, mechanical Hi-Beat 36000 model in Grand Seiko’s Heritage Collection. Why is the dial called Icefall?
Grand Seiko says the dial draws on the winter icefall at Nanataki, a 30-meter waterfall in Hachimantai, Iwate. The landscape is associated with Mount Iwate and the scenery visible from Grand Seiko’s Shizukuishi mechanical watch studio. The textured surface and cool blue tone translate that frozen landscape into a dial design; the manufacturer’s description is an account of its inspiration, rather than a claim about a particular natural material used in the dial. How large is the 37 mm Icefall?
The official dimensions are 37.0 mm across, 44.6 mm from lug to lug and 13.3 mm thick. The bracelet is 19 mm wide, and the listed weight is 142 g. These are manufacturer specifications; wrist fit also depends on wrist shape and how the bracelet articulates.
Grand Seiko’s regional listings describe bracelet sizing differently: the Singapore page gives a maximum bracelet perimeter of 192 mm, while the Japanese boutique page states a maximum wrist length of 200 mm. Those measurements use different descriptions and should not be treated as interchangeable. Check the sizing information for the market where you plan to buy. Case, bracelet and construction
The case and bracelet are made from Ever-Brilliant Steel. Grand Seiko describes this alloy as more corrosion resistant and brighter white in appearance than conventional stainless steel; these are manufacturer material claims. The watch has a dual-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, plus a screw-down, see-through case back. Its stated water-resistance rating is 10 bar. How does Caliber 9S85 work?
Inside is Grand Seiko’s Caliber 9S85, an automatic mechanical movement that can also be wound by hand. It has 37 jewels, beats 10 times per second and is specified to run for approximately 55 hours when fully wound. Ten beats per second is the high-beat frequency behind the “Hi-Beat 36000” name.

Grand Seiko lists two accuracy figures with different meanings:
- Mean daily rate: +5 to −3 seconds per day. This is measured before casing, during a fixed 12-day test in six positions under controlled conditions. It is not a guarantee that a watch will gain or lose that amount each day on a wearer’s wrist.
- Normal-use accuracy: +8 to −1 seconds per day. This is the figure published on Grand Seiko’s Singapore product page. Grand Seiko cautions that actual accuracy can vary with use conditions.
