The Montblanc 1858 Annual Calendar Geosphere pairs an annual calendar and large date with a rotating worldtime globe, all driven by a manually wound Minerva calibre. Its signature display is unusually elaborate, but the 42 mm case, 3 bar water resistance and launch-era prices put it firmly in the category of a costly dress-oriented complication rather than a practical sports watch.
What is the Montblanc 1858 Annual Calendar Geosphere?
Reference MB134026 is the stainless-steel version of this 2025 launch. Montblanc lists a 42 mm case measuring 13.3 mm high, a fixed fluted 18-karat white-gold bezel, a silver-white dial with blue-coated indices and a blue interchangeable calf strap with alligator print. How do the calendar and worldtime displays work?
Annual calendar and large date
The annual calendar places the month indications around the dial’s perimeter. At 12 o’clock, two adjacent apertures form the large date display. The calendar and date indications share the dial with the globe rather than sitting on a separate subdial, giving the face a dense, layered layout.
Rotating globe and day/night indication
A three-dimensional globe represents the Northern Hemisphere and rotates once every 24 hours. A 24-hour scale and day/night indication make it possible to read worldtime against the globe. In Fratello’s April 29, 2025 launch report, the globe is described as sapphire, hand-painted on its underside, with an orange line marking Greenwich Mean Time. What is the Minerva MB M14.58 movement?
The movement powers the annual calendar, large date and worldtime display, and is manually wound. Fratello’s 2025 report gives its frequency as 18,000 vibrations per hour, its power reserve as approximately 65 hours, and its construction as 64 jewels and 336 components. Those are launch-report specifications rather than figures independently tested here.
Fratello also describes rhodium-plated German-silver plates with Côtes de Genève, snailed bridges, a yellow-gold-plated gear train and hand-applied anglage. It reports that “Minerva” appears in place of July on the month ring, in reference to the registration date of the brand name. These movement-finishing and production details are reported by Fratello, rather than established in the Montblanc product listing.

How do the steel and gold editions differ?
Montblanc also lists reference MB134027, a 30-piece version with a silver-white dial and yellow-gold-colored details. Fratello calls its case material 18K “lime gold”; that wording is the source’s description and should not be read as a universal alloy designation. The available listings identify the MB M14.58 for the collection and do not establish a movement difference between the editions.

What are the practical trade-offs?
- Case size: The 42 mm diameter and 13.3 mm height are meaningful fit considerations. Those are listed dimensions; no independent wearing assessment is available here.
- Water resistance: The official 3 bar / 30 metre rating is modest. This is not a dive or sports-watch specification.
- Complexity and legibility: The calendar, large date, 24-hour worldtime scale and sculpted globe give the watch multiple functions, but also create a visually busy dial. Whether that architecture appeals is an aesthetic judgment, not a performance finding.
