The Wahoo TICKR X is a legacy chest-strap heart-rate monitor with Bluetooth, ANT+, onboard workout memory and manufacturer-described running metrics. It may suit someone who already owns one or finds a well-documented remaining-stock unit, but check the seller’s condition, warranty, return policy and firmware support before buying. Wahoo’s specifications describe its capabilities; no independent accuracy or reliability testing is available here.
What is the Wahoo TICKR X?
TICKR X is a chest-strap sensor that sends heart-rate data to compatible phones, tablets, GPS watches and other devices over Bluetooth 4.0 or ANT+. Wahoo says it records heart rate, calories burned and time, and includes memory for recording a workout without a phone. Wahoo’s support page puts it plainly: “The TICKR X features built in memory enabling you to train without your smartphone and sync your data later.”
Wahoo also describes three-dimensional running-form monitoring, including cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time. For indoor cycling, it says the sensor can capture cadence workouts when used with the Wahoo Fitness app. These are manufacturer-stated functions, not independent measurements of how accurately the unit records them. Is the TICKR X still worth buying?
It can make sense if you specifically want a chest strap with ANT+ and Bluetooth plus Wahoo’s stated onboard-memory and running-form features, and the particular unit is in good condition. It is a less straightforward choice if you need a new-product warranty, assured retailer stock or a clearly current product line: Wahoo’s current heart-rate monitor listings feature TRACKR HEART RATE and TICKR FIT, while Cyclingnews’ 28 September 2026 comparison describes TRACKR as replacing the TICKR and TICKR X range.

That evidence establishes the TICKR X’s legacy status in the current lineup context, not whether a particular seller has stock or what condition, price or warranty applies. Check those details with the seller, and ask whether firmware updates remain accessible through the Wahoo Fitness app. Wahoo’s support policy says discontinued products may still receive informational, hardware and software support; discontinued does not automatically mean unsupported. How does TICKR X compare with current alternatives?
TRACKR HEART RATE is the closest current-line chest-strap context in Wahoo’s listings; TICKR FIT is an armband option. The available information supports this feature-level comparison, not a claim that one is more accurate or reliable than another.

Will it work with your phone or bike computer?
Wahoo says TICKR X is designed for Apple devices running iOS 11 or newer. Its Wahoo Fitness Android app supports most Bluetooth-compliant devices running Android 6 or newer, but Wahoo cautions that compatibility varies and is not guaranteed. Confirm your exact phone and operating-system combination rather than treating those minimum versions as a universal compatibility promise.

The sensor can also work with Windows and Mac applications that support Bluetooth and/or ANT+. Wahoo recommends ANT+ for Windows PCs. For a bike computer or GPS watch, check that the specific device supports the sensor’s connection type and the data you want to use; Bluetooth and ANT+ support on one device does not guarantee every app or metric will be available.
Can you use it without your phone?
Yes. Wahoo says the TICKR X has built-in memory, so it can record a workout without a smartphone and sync the data later. The Wahoo Fitness app is required for important firmware updates, so it remains relevant even if you prefer phone-free workouts. Wahoo makes the app available for iOS and Android.

How do you set up and pair a TICKR X?
- Fit the sensor: Snap the sensor onto one side of the strap and adjust the strap to sit snugly but comfortably.
- Prepare the contacts: Moisten the contact points on the back of the strap with saliva or electrode gel.
- Put it on: Wrap the strap around your chest and fasten it.
- Wake and pair it: Wake the device by wearing it or touching both buckle terminals. In the Wahoo Fitness app, select the sensor and install any offered updates.
For battery replacement, follow Wahoo’s official guide rather than assuming a procedure; the listed battery type is CR2032.

How do you clean and store it?
- After use, wash the strap with soap and warm water, then hang it until completely dry.
- Avoid strong chemicals and solvents.
- For storage, unbuckle at least one side to reduce unintended battery drain.
What firmware support is listed for TICKR X?
Wahoo’s firmware release-notes page lists version 1.7.6 as the current TICKR X firmware on that page. TICKR X2 is a separate model: its listed version 1.15.18 is dated 24 October 2023. Do not use TICKR X2’s version history to identify the firmware for a TICKR X. Check Wahoo’s firmware release notes and the Wahoo Fitness app for applicable updates.
