The Seiko Prospex SRPL53K1 (short model name SRPL53) is a PADI Special Edition automatic diver rated to 200m. Seiko’s current US and UK product descriptions identify its dial as an emerald-green gradation, so the frequently repeated “all-blue Seiko Samurai” label should be treated as unverified for this reference until the physical watch or a matching official reference is confirmed.
What the Seiko SRPL53 actually is
SRPL53K1 is part of Seiko’s Prospex diver range and commemorates the partnership between Prospex and PADI. Seiko describes the watch as a special edition and says its emerald-green gradation dial is inspired by shimmering light and rippling water viewed from below the surface.
The “all-blue” description comes from a June 12, 2025 secondary video that used the headline “The New All-Blue Seiko Prospex Diver 200m Samurai SRPL53,” described a blue dial and bezel, and mentioned July 2025 availability at a €650 retail price. That account conflicts with Seiko’s regional product wording. Product photos, a retailer listing, or a watch physically in hand may therefore differ from what a reader expects from the all-blue nickname.

Movement and everyday operation
Caliber 4R35
The 4R35 is an automatic movement that can also be wound by hand. Seiko lists an approximately 41-hour power reserve, 23 jewels, a date display and a stop-second function. Stop-second (hacking) lets the seconds hand halt while the crown is pulled out, which helps set the time precisely. The specification does not establish a measured accuracy result for this particular watch.
#1 Best Overall
- SEIKO WATCH – Seiko SRPL15 Prospex wristwatch.
- COLLECTION – Prospex design.
- CASE DESIGN – Prospex Mare model format.
- MODEL REFERENCE – SRPL15 identifies the specific model.
- WATCH DIAMETER – 41.7 mm.
Date and winding controls
The date display adds practical utility for daily wear. Automatic winding uses wrist motion, while manual winding is useful after the watch has stopped. Because the crown is screw-down, it must be fully tightened for the stated diving water resistance; do not operate it underwater.
Case, bezel and diving hardware
At 41.7mm wide, 12.3mm thick and 49.5mm from lug to lug, the SRPL53 has the substantial proportions associated with Seiko’s Samurai-style Prospex divers. The 20mm lug spacing is the key measurement for strap compatibility. Seiko lists a stainless-steel case, Hardlex crystal, screw-down crown and screw case back.
Rank #2
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Seiko 4R35 automatic movement includes manual winding, 23 jewels, date display, stop-second function, and approximately 41 hours of power reserve.
- 200M DIVER'S WATER RESISTANCE: Rated to 200 meters / 660 feet for diving, with a screw-down crown and screw case back.
- STAINLESS-STEEL CASE: 41.7mm stainless-steel case measures 12.3mm thick with a 49.5mm lug-to-lug distance and 20mm lug width.
- HARDLEX CRYSTAL: Durable Hardlex crystal protects the dial, while LumiBrite on the hands, indexes, and bezel improves low-light visibility.
- DIVER-READY DESIGN: Unidirectional rotating bezel and three-fold clasp with secure lock, push-button release, and extender provide practical functionality.
The unidirectional bezel is designed for elapsed-time tracking: turning it accidentally in the direction that reduces the remaining indication cannot make a dive appear safer than it is. Seiko also applies LumiBrite to the hands, indexes and bezel. The manufacturer’s specification does not provide a timed lume-duration test.
Water resistance is listed as 200m / 660ft for diving. That rating is a manufacturer specification, not evidence of an individual watch’s current seal condition; regular gasket inspection and pressure testing are appropriate before serious underwater use.

SRPL53 color: all-blue or emerald green?
For buyers searching “all-blue Seiko Samurai,” the color discrepancy is the most important qualification. Seiko’s US and UK descriptions call the dial an emerald-green gradation and tie the design to underwater light. The secondary June 2025 video calls the dial and bezel blue. Those descriptions cannot both be treated as definitive for the same physical configuration.
Check the exact reference printed on the case, warranty card and retailer page, and compare the listing with current Seiko imagery before paying a premium for an assumed blue colorway. Lighting and photography can also shift a green-to-blue impression, but that possibility does not resolve the conflicting descriptions on its own.

A meaningful “SRPL53 vs other Samurai” comparison should use documented differences rather than assumptions about comfort, finishing or lume. Compare these points on the exact references:

Best Value
- PADI SPECIAL EDITION: Men's Prospex Sea diver watch features PADI Special Edition details and a durable stainless-steel case.
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Seiko 4R35 automatic movement with manual winding, 23 jewels, stop-second function, date display, and approximately 41-hour power reserve.
- 200M DIVER'S WATCH: 200m/660ft diver's water resistance, screw-down crown, and screw case back support underwater use.
- SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL: Sapphire crystal with magnifier and inner anti-reflective coating provides enhanced clarity and scratch resistance.
- CERAMIC BEZEL & SILICONE BAND: Stainless-steel bezel with ceramic display and unidirectional rotation pairs with a flexible silicone band.
- Dimensions: diameter, 12.3mm thickness and 49.5mm lug-to-lug determine wrist presence more reliably than the Samurai nickname.
- Movement: identify the caliber, winding options, date layout, hacking function and stated power reserve.
- Crystal: SRPL53 uses Hardlex; another model may use a different material, which should be confirmed from its own specification.
- Diver hardware: check the water-resistance rating, unidirectional bezel, crown security and case-back construction.
- Color and legibility: verify the dial and bezel color from an official reference, then check whether LumiBrite coverage is specified.
- Bracelet and clasp: compare lug spacing, bracelet length, clasp security, push-button release and extender design.
- Price and stock: use the same region and date; a limited or special-edition listing may not be directly comparable with a standard-production model.
No documented independent test in the available material establishes the SRPL53’s real-world accuracy, wrist comfort, finishing quality, lume duration or individual pressure-test performance, so those should not be presented as measured advantages over another Samurai.
Buying verdict
The Seiko Prospex SRPL53 is a clearly specified 200m PADI automatic diver with a 4R35 movement, compact-for-the-category 49.5mm lug-to-lug measurement, Hardlex crystal and a 170g steel bracelet package. Its main unresolved point is not the movement or case specification but the color identity: official Seiko pages say emerald-green gradation, while a secondary 2025 source calls it all-blue. Treat the reference number—not the nickname—as the basis for any purchase.
