TAG Heuer introduced two purple Carrera Glassbox watches in January 2025: the 39 mm Carrera Chronograph CBS2219.FC6607 and the 42 mm Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon CBS5017.FC6605. The first is an automatic chronograph added to the core collection; the second adds a tourbillon and is limited to 200 pieces. Their shared smokey-purple dial shifts in appearance with the light, while their size, movement, reserve and edition status set them apart.
What are the purple TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox editions?
They are two steel Carrera watches with a smokey-purple sunray-brushed dial, introduced together by TAG Heuer on January 21, 2025. The 39 mm CBS2219.FC6607 is the standard automatic chronograph. The larger 42 mm CBS5017.FC6605 is a chronograph with a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. TAG Heuer’s launch article calls the former a core-collection addition and the latter a 200-piece collector’s model (TAG Heuer Official Magazine, January 21, 2025).
The Glassbox design is part of the visual point: the curved sapphire crystal lets light travel across the dial. TAG Heuer describes the purple finish as circular-brushed; its 2025 brochure says the gradient runs from deep black at the edges to rich purple at the center. That is the brand’s description of the dial, whose appearance can vary with lighting and viewing angle (TAG Heuer Carrera brochure, 2025).

What does the 39 mm Carrera Chronograph offer?
The CBS2219.FC6607 pairs its smokey-purple sunray dial and black subdials with a fine-brushed and polished steel case. TAG Heuer specifies a 39 mm diameter, 13.9 mm thickness, 20.7 mm lug distance and 100 m water resistance. Functions are hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date, powered by the automatic in-house TH20-00 with an 80-hour reserve (TAG Heuer UK product listing).
It comes on a black perforated leather strap with purple lining and TAG Heuer’s CAPSA self-interchangeable system. The core-collection designation makes this the more straightforward choice for someone drawn to the dial and Glassbox case but not seeking a numbered limited edition or tourbillon.

What changes with the 42 mm tourbillon?
The CBS5017.FC6605 scales up to a 42 mm steel case and adds a tourbillon visible at 6 o’clock beneath the domed sapphire Glassbox crystal. It uses the automatic TH20-09 COSC movement, with a manufacturer-stated 65-hour power reserve and 100 m water resistance. TAG Heuer identifies it as a limited edition of 200 pieces (TAG Heuer CBS5017.FC6605 product listing).
The tourbillon is the defining distinction, not merely a dial variation on the 39 mm watch. It is also physically larger and has a shorter stated reserve. TAG Heuer positions it as a collector’s piece; buyers should confirm local pricing and availability with the brand or an authorized retailer, as those details depend on market and stock.

Why does the purple dial look different in changing light?
The color is not presented as a flat, uniform purple. TAG Heuer’s 2025 brochure describes a gradient from a nearly black perimeter to a richer purple center, while the brand’s launch article says the curved crystal allows light to play across the circular-brushed dial (2025 Carrera brochure; launch article). The result is intended to reveal different facets of the same dial as the watch moves; it should not be mistaken for a color measurement or a guarantee that every photograph or lighting condition will show the same shade.
TAG Heuer’s brochure also places the colorway in context, noting its earlier use on the 2022 Monaco Chronograph before bringing it to the Carrera Glassbox series.

Which purple Carrera Glassbox makes more sense?
- Choose the 39 mm CBS2219.FC6607 if you want the smaller case, standard automatic chronograph layout, date, 80-hour stated reserve and core-collection status.
- Consider the 42 mm CBS5017.FC6605 if the tourbillon, COSC-designated movement and 200-piece limitation are central to your choice, and the larger case suits you.
