Fitbit announced three additions to its personal Health Coach on March 31, 2026: period and symptom logging with cycle insights, mood and mindfulness tracking with a new resilience metric, and nutrition and water logging. The announcement came during Public Preview. The app and subscription have since been renamed Google Health and Google Health Premium, and the coach is now part of Google Health Premium. Access to individual features still depends on eligibility and rollout.
What are the three new features?
Google announced the features while the coach was in Public Preview. They broaden the service beyond wearable measurements by adding information users enter themselves. Google describes the coach as using health and wearable data to identify patterns and offer recommendations; those interpretations are wellness guidance, not clinical conclusions.
Cycle Health: period and symptom logs
Cycle Health lets users record periods and symptoms in a calendar. Google said Premium users could also receive personalized cycle insights from the coach. Logging is distinct from interpretation: entering symptoms creates a record, while an AI-generated insight is an attempt to put that record in context. The announcement supports period tracking and wellness insights; it does not establish fertility predictions, pregnancy advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Google’s March 31 announcement describes the feature.
Mental Wellbeing: moods, mindfulness, and resilience
Users can log moods and mindfulness sessions. Google also updated its stress-management scoring with a metric called resilience, intended to help users understand how their bodies respond to stress. In practice, these entries may give the coach context to consider alongside wearable-derived stress and recovery trends. Resilience is a wellness score, not a definitive measure of psychological resilience or a clinical mental-health assessment.

Nutrition and water: targets and manual logging
The nutrition tools let users set a calorie target and log meals, calories, macronutrients, and water. Google also announced personalized macronutrient ranges. A range can allow more flexibility than a single fixed macro target, but the announcement does not establish dietitian-level meal planning or automatic recognition of every meal.
These logs require effort, and their usefulness depends on the entries. Portion sizes, recipes, restaurant meals, and food selections can be recorded inaccurately; missed entries also leave gaps. Treat totals and suggestions as estimates rather than precise dietary measurements.

What is free, and what requires Google Health Premium?
The March announcement said people without Premium could join the Public Preview to track health, fitness, sleep, and related data. It specifically identified Ask Coach and custom fitness plans as Premium experiences, and personalized cycle insights were also described as a Premium benefit. It did not clearly assign a subscription requirement to every new logging feature, so the table distinguishes what Google stated from what remains dependent on current account access.
| Capability | Access described by Google |
|---|---|
| Basic health, fitness, sleep, and related tracking | Non-Premium users could join the Public Preview; access remained subject to eligibility and rollout. |
| Period and symptom logging | Announced as part of the coach expansion; the announcement did not specify a separate subscription requirement for logging. |
| Personalized cycle insights | Premium feature, according to the March announcement. |
| Mood and mindfulness logging | Announced feature; a distinct subscription requirement for logging was not stated. |
| Nutrition, calorie, macronutrient, and water logging | Announced feature; a distinct subscription requirement for logging was not stated. |
| Ask Coach and custom fitness plans | Premium experiences, according to the March announcement. |
Google later made Health Coach a Google Health Premium feature. That current product structure does not mean every basic logging function has the same paywall, or that every subscriber receives every feature immediately. Google says availability varies by country, device, age, account, platform, language, and rollout. Check the live Google Health eligibility and availability information for your account.

Why the Fitbit name changed
On May 19, 2026, the Fitbit app became the Google Health app, and Fitbit Premium was renamed Google Health Premium. Google Health Coach is the current name for the coaching product; it is built with Gemini. Older articles and the March feature announcement use Fitbit branding because they predate the change. Google’s Help Center explains the app and subscription transition.
For U.S. readers, Google’s May announcement and Store listed Google Health Premium from $9.99 per month, with an annual option at $99 per year. Those are U.S. price points, not worldwide pricing; check the Google Health Premium Store page for current price and terms. A subscription is most relevant to someone who wants the coaching features, rather than someone seeking only basic activity or sleep tracking.

Who can use Google Health Coach?
Google’s current Help Center says the coach and Premium coaching features require an account holder aged 18 or older and a compatible Fitbit or Pixel Watch. Supported countries and account, app, platform, and language configurations also matter. Having the app or a Google account alone does not qualify someone for the complete coaching experience.
Google expanded preview access to additional markets and iOS in February 2026, naming the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. That historical expansion is not a guarantee that every feature is now available to every user in those markets. Consult Google’s current availability page rather than relying on an older country list.

How the coach uses the new information—and its limits
The intended workflow combines user-entered information—such as periods, symptoms, moods, mindfulness sessions, meals, and water—with compatible health, sleep, fitness, and wearable data. Google says the Gemini-powered coach can spot patterns, ask follow-up questions, and provide recommendations. That describes the product’s intended function, not a guarantee that it will find a reliable cause for a trend or produce suitable advice for every person.
- Self-reported entries can be incomplete or inconsistent; sparse logs give the coach less context.
- Wearable data can have gaps if a device is not worn, is charging, fits poorly, or has not synced.
- Resilience and other scores should be read as trend indicators, not validated diagnoses.
- AI-generated cycle, stress, nutrition, and wellness guidance is not a substitute for a doctor, therapist, registered dietitian, or other qualified clinician. Do not use it to diagnose or treat a condition.
- Before connecting sensitive health information, review Google’s current privacy and data-use disclosures. The scope and availability of data integrations can vary.
What to do if a feature is missing
A missing feature does not by itself mean that the account needs a paid subscription. Eligibility, staged rollout, app version, device connection, or account configuration may be responsible. Google does not publish one guaranteed menu path that applies across app versions, so use the current app labels rather than following screenshots from older Fitbit instructions.
- Update the Google Health app (formerly Fitbit) from your device’s app store.
- Confirm that a compatible Fitbit or Pixel Watch is connected to the Google Account you are using, then sync the device.
- Check that the account holder meets the age requirement and that the feature is supported in your country, language, and platform.
- If you expect a Premium coaching feature, verify that Google Health Premium is active on the same account.
- Close and reopen the app, then check Google’s current availability and eligibility guidance.
- If you appear eligible and the feature remains unavailable, contact Google or Fitbit support.
Is the update worth paying for?
It is a stronger fit for an existing Fitbit or Pixel Watch owner who wants coaching that brings together wearable trends and actively logged cycle, mood, mindfulness, or nutrition information—and is willing to keep those logs up to date. It is a weaker fit for someone who wants only passive activity and sleep tracking, dislikes manual entry, or expects a clinical assessment, treatment plan, or professional nutrition service.
The March 31 additions were announced during Public Preview; Google later rolled out the broader Google Health Coach as part of Google Health Premium, with rollout beginning May 19 and reaching full availability by May 26, 2026. Individual feature access can still vary. The change is best understood as a broader wellness journal and coaching layer, not proof that every user has received every capability.
